EFF Makes Formal Objection to DRM in HTML5
Draft Proposal from W3C Could Stymie Web Innovation

"This proposal stands apart from all other aspects of HTML standardization: it defines a new 'black box' for the entertainment industry, fenced off from control by the browser and end-user," said EFF International Director Danny O'Brien. "While this plan might soothe Hollywood content providers who are scared of technological evolution, it could also create serious impediments to interoperability and access for all."

General Software Discussion / Re: Opera 15 Preview
« on: May 29, 2013, 01:05 AM »
Opera 15 provides a mish-mash of Opera features and the Chrome interface
The beta of Opera's WebKit-based browser will be familiar to both Opera and Chrome fans.

The browser may have lost some features, but it has gained a more compatible, more widely supported rendering engine. The lost bells and whistles come in tandem with a more robust browser. Opera clearly felt it was a trade-off worth making—the company's task is now to convince its users of the same.

Opera 15 preview released, Mail becomes separate product

One of the things that you may notice right away is that Opera decided to separate the Mail client M2 from the browser. If you have been using Opera Mail before, you need to download the separate product from the same website to continue using it.

This time, Yahoo! Japan got hacked.  :o

Yahoo Japan suspects vast ID theft
Data on 22 million users feared stolen, but not passwords

“We don’t know if the file (of 22 million user IDs) was leaked or not, but we can’t deny the possibility, given the volume of traffic between our server and external” terminals, the company said in a statement late Friday.

Plan your digital afterlife with Inactive Account Manager

For example, you can choose to have your data deleted — after three, six, nine or 12 months of inactivity. Or you can select trusted contacts to receive data from some or all of the following services: +1s; Blogger; Contacts and Circles; Drive; Gmail; Google+ Profiles, Pages and Streams; Picasa Web Albums; Google Voice and YouTube. Before our systems take any action, we’ll first warn you by sending a text message to your cellphone and email to the secondary address you’ve provided.

Yahoo! webmail! hijacks! are! back!...

Yahoo! has blamed cross-site scripting security bugs, which it claims to have squashed, for a recent upsurge in webmail account takeovers.

« on: January 02, 2013, 09:48 PM »
Congratulations to everybody. Great software as always.  has featured NANY 2013:

Donationcoder Nany 2013 programs

The Donation Coder website holds a programming event they call Nany, which stands for New Apps for the New Year, in which coders pledge to create and release a free piece of software by year’s end. The variety of programs is usually enormous, from small portable programs that are useful for a very specific task over plugins for existing programs to game editors.

The programs of this year have just been announced my Mouser. You can visit the site to go through the programs one by one to find the ones of interest to you.

Living Room / Re: Broadband Caps
« on: December 25, 2012, 07:24 PM »
I only got 1GB data cap priced at about $6 per month. :o It's a wireless network where congestion often happens. I rarely reach the cap because of slow connection.

I am probably not in the Age of Netflix yet.  :)

Sorry, I don't have the answer but I help you bump the question and show the screenshot.  :)

Living Room / Re: Can DDR2-PC6400 RAM replace DDR2-PC5300 RAM?
« on: December 13, 2012, 09:23 PM »
Main Memory
• Supports two unbuffered DIMM of 1.8 Volt DDR2 SDRAM
• Supports dual channel DDR2 memory architecture.
• Supports DDR2 400/533/667 memory interface. (4GB Max)

But I am not sure if I understand what the specification means. :-[

That's clock speed, multiply by 8 to give your PC rating, eg. 400 * 8 = PC3200, 533 * 8 = PC4200, 667 * 8 = PC5300

They round down to the nearest 100, (for DDR2 anyway).

Then, does it mean that my PC can't have DDR2-PC6400 because the maximum PC rating is PC5300?  :(

Thanks for the head up.  :)

Your order is complete! Thank you.

Thanks to eleman and Shades for the explanation.

Yes it can replace, and yes it can be combined, but you will run it at DDR2 pc5300 speed, which should be just fine.
Replacement shouldn't be a problem. In theory anyway.

So replacement is safer.

In my experience it never hurts to check first what your motherboard actually supports. Memory timing can be bitchy sometimes. Mix-and-match different pairs of memory modules can make your computing experience (very) unpleasant.

Even memory modules of the same brand but (slightly) different model can make your system do bad things.

After a quick peek at the provided link I didn't see a link to the installation manual. That document normally has dedicated one or more pages to which (pairs of) memory modules from which brand are supported.

I don't have PC Manual at hand. I open the case and found out that the motherboard is Wearnes 7945L2-C1. I google it and found a support page for Wearnes Premiere 7945L2.

Main Memory
• Supports two unbuffered DIMM of 1.8 Volt DDR2 SDRAM
• Supports dual channel DDR2 memory architecture.
• Supports DDR2 400/533/667 memory interface. (4GB Max)

Living Room / Can DDR2-PC6400 RAM replace DDR2-PC5300 RAM?
« on: December 12, 2012, 01:16 AM »
I've got to use an aging workstation (Intel® Pentium® Processor E2140 desktop) at work. I would like to add more RAM (currently 1GB DDR2 PC5300 333MHz).

My question is: Can DDR2 PC6400 RAM replace or be combined with DR2 PC5300 RAM?

Thank you.  :)

How to Do a Full Shutdown in Windows 8 Without Disabling Hybrid Boot

Windows 8 comes with a new Hybrid Boot feature, which decreases boot times. But from time to time you may find you need to do a classic, full shutdown. Here’s how to do just that without disabling Hybrid Boot.

In short: Shutdown using shutdown.exe /s /t 0
