Thanks for the head up. I had trialed the software a few months ago. So this giveaway is a bless.

Honeywell Files Patent Lawsuit Against Smart Thermostat Developer Nest

Interestingly, Honeywell recently told GigaOm that it killed off its smarter, learning thermostats years ago, instead focusing on ‘adding intelligence to digital and connected thermostats.

Take the trouble to learn about and understand useful negotiating skills/techniques.

Salary Negotiation: Make More Money, Be More Valued

Your salary negotiation — which routinely takes less than 5 minutes to conclude — has an outsized influence on what your compensation is.  Compensation can include money or things which are more-or-less fungible replacements for money, but it can also include interesting things which you value from “more time with your family” to “opportunities to do tasks which you find fulfilling” to “perks which make a meaningful difference in your day-to-day quality of life.”  That makes your negotiation five very important minutes.  You generally can’t do a totally bang up job on any five minutes of work this year and have your boss give you an extra $5,000.  You can trivially pick up $5,000 in salary negotiations just by sucking less.

The Absolute Minimum Every Software Developer Absolutely, Positively Must Know About Unicode and Character Sets (No Excuses!)
by Joel Spolsky

... A couple of years ago, a beta tester for FogBUGZ was wondering whether it could handle incoming email in Japanese. Japanese? They have email in Japanese? I had no idea. When I looked closely at the commercial ActiveX control we were using to parse MIME email messages, we discovered it was doing exactly the wrong thing with character sets, so we actually had to write heroic code to undo the wrong conversion it had done and redo it correctly. ...

$1 Min. Price For Getting Steam Keys

Hey guys, we’ve noticed that a number of un-humble users are buying lots of Humble Indie Bundle 4’s for one penny, and then using their Steam codes to “legitimize” automated Steam accounts in order to increase their odds of winning prizes in Valve’s current raffle promotion.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: 24-Hours Giveaway - VX Search Pro

Thank you!

I've just installed the program and tried a simple search to find text file (TXT) file. When I double-click in the search result pane, the program shows file properties instead of opening it according to file association (in this case open with Notepad). I also miss standard context menu like in Windows Explorer or Everything.

Perhaps it is important news. I read in The Register that StartCom, which operates StartSSL, suffered a security breach that occurred last Wednesday.

In addition, in case anyone else is hunting around similarly:

The original X-COM, "UFO: Enemy Unknown" ticked so many boxes for me. It's the only game I've ever played through three full times. There's an updated version which is really nice here: http://ufo.ufo-extraterrestrials.com/   - and it's only $4.99!?

Similar game I played several years ago:

That's strange too. Can anyone open the file here (mediafire) or here (Let's Crate) in your version of Excel / Calc and confirm the behaviour?

194
I prepared worksheet for a client using Excel 2007. I locked certain cells and protected the sheet using Review|Protect Sheet menu.

For compatibilty, I opened it in OpenOffice.org Calc (version 3.2.0) and found out that it canceled the Excel's sheet protection; all locked cell can be altered.

Is it a bug in Excel or in Calc?

Tough choices! But I really need the support for the following feature:
  • support recurring tasks
  • ability to customize reminder time

Keep up the good work!

I have downloaded and registered the give away version (v.1.37 build 217), thanks for the offer. I use it to collect SQL script but I get minor issue though!
  • Every word that has "." (dot) in the midle is automatically converted to URL. For example: customer.firstname
  • If date entered with "dd-mm-yyyy" format then AllMyNotes thinks it a phone number

Erm, 3000/month is more than possible

My current mobile plan offers me 3000 SMS per month...i usually breach this limit

I pay 7 cent per day (opt-in) to get SMS package that allows a maximum of 100000 SMS sent per day. Receiving SMS is free. Very cheap.  :)
