- Checksum everything
- Send it to the cloud like a DNS RBL lookup
- If your PC doesn't report back in, blacklist that checksum for the next poor fellow that tries to run it  :P

If you do not verify your backups, you have not made backups.

This.

Spin up your server backup in a VM. Restore your SQL backup to another instance. Then you know the process works, and you will have been through the recovery steps so you're not winging it.

Then you do it again the next year.

General Software Discussion / Re: Removing images when printing?
« on: March 29, 2015, 07:37 PM »
A lot of printer drivers will have some of those features built in, such as 2-up (or more) printing and draft mode. I could swear there was one printer I owned that had more options like removing images, but my current HP doesn't.

Fortunately I seem to have missed the blue bar, but the buttons that are present now are not bothersome.

That said there is a good bit of wasted space, where there are really 4 rows of buttons (if you include the RSS button and Translate option). Maybe the first three rows (the buttons) could be condensed into one? Facebook buttons, then RSS which would be a good separator, then the others?

I like this one -- no filler just tables showing how small snippets of code would look in different languages.
But no Rexx.  :(

Nice of Cyberdoc to stick around and discuss though.

The ^lichen method would actually be a very good approach, although current GMO abuses with Franken-foods have given the subject of genetic engineering a bad rap.
Yeah, GMOs... ask the Thrints what happened to their food animals, the frumious Bandersnatch, that their genetic engineers, the tnuctipun, created for them...  ;D

Missed my pie, in the middle of moving.

But it won't be too long until e day...  2/7/18 2:08:18!

Hmm, tossing the 0 placeholder in kinda defeats the purpose...

Thank you so much for the mention!! What a useful concept - I hope they have a number of subscribers to keep the service running. There are so many good valid reasons to have something like this (and of course bunches of unpleasant reasons).

I bought a Corsair 128gb stick with a slide-out connector (which I despise from all vendors). It quit working within two months, although it was reasonable to return and the replacement has worked flawlessly. They don't make that model any more, but I would have preferred the Flash Voyager GS model if it had been available (looks slim & sturdy) with the caveat that I'd really prefer the mini (but it maxes out at 64gb).

Not sure what base that all is though
Base villain.

How many people here ever used an EasyBake Oven as a kid?
Not me, although my daughter got one as a gift several years ago. She and a babysitter tried it out the first time, but they weren't happy with the results. That might be due to the fact that we only had compact fluorescent bulbs available in the pantry.

Well said Jim.

the task of delivering it to the target to infect the new hard drive without the OS noticing

like... packaging it as a critical update from the drive manufacturer... which we regularly install on customer equipment...

You'll need to determine what will work with UK Sky. But in the end if your existing connection gives you an ethernet socket, there's nothing to stop you from putting another router behind the existing one.

Here is a D-Link DIR-615, cost is $25.74 US (at least on my Amazon page). Looks like the hardware revisions from C onward are supported by DD-WRT. Better?

Worth downloading for sure.

Worth using?

So, put the Sky Hub into bridge mode and buy a real router.
+1

You can look here to see if the QoS features of DD-WRT might fit your needs. If you think it might, then check here to see if your router is supported.

OpenWRT will likely do similar things and has a slightly different set of supported hardware, though I prefer DD-WRT's interface. I think Tomato tends to have more limited hardware support than either of the others.

You know, I've used TunnelVision for those purposes occasionally (although it's not the creeping, long term approach that can drive a man slowly mad...)  :P
