General Software Discussion / Re: Malwarebytes 3.0 out
« on: December 19, 2016, 08:31 PM »
Version 3.05.1299 was released today and it seems to have fixed all the problems that I was having with the last version.

Takes a while for Malware Protection to turn on and activate, but it eventually does. There's also an extraneous red exclamation point currently super-imposed over the tray icon, but everything is activated & the main UI states I am fully protected.

LATER EDIT: A reboot cleared up any weird anomalies. Now it's working & behaving in all respects.

General Software Discussion / Re: Directory Opus 12 Released
« on: September 09, 2016, 08:26 PM »
My only concern with the new release is in the past the author has prided himself on going three years before coming out with versions that require shelling out for an upgrade fee. The span of time between v11 and v12 was just two years. I hope this isn't the start of a spiral towards shorter product cycles and more frequent request for upgrade fees.

Not sure if you are on Windows 10 or something else, but if you are then come August 2nd the Anniversary release will be out and there are some tweaks to the start menu coming. Nothing major, but some minor refinements that some may find useful.

(I googled the term "?rf=emst" and several of those search results relate to previous Appsumo sales. I am guessing maybe Appsumo uses that "?rf=emst" to track some sort of sales metrics.)

If I had to make an educated guess, I'm betting that emst is a generic referrer that stands for EMail Sales Tracking so they can keep track of who buys the product based on the email campaign or if someone just stumbles across it by visiting the web site. Google suggests it is a 'generic' referrer that's not tied to any one person.

This is akin to commercials on TV that tell you to mention code such-and-such when you call to order so they know which channel you saw their commercial on.

I'm interested in the start menu replacement and the app that lets you run modern ui apps as regular apps, so any info on that would help me decide whether this is worth it.

Before you shell out for Stardock's start menu replacement you should research a comparison between it and Classic Start Menu. I use neither, but comparison reviews usually show Classic Start Menu coming out on top in regards to features and it's freeware.
