General Software Discussion / Re: Save Firefox Search Engines
« on: August 31, 2008, 03:19 AM »
Well the search engines are shown in your FF Profile folder, correct?  And FEBE claims to back up the WHOLE Profile, as mentioned by mwang, so that should do it. If you are still suspicious of FEBE then you shouldn't use it, I guess.

You can always go to the Firefox user folder and make a copy of the search engines there. Or make a copy of the entire folder and store it elsewhere, on a CD, an external drive, online data storage, etc.

Well, last time I restored using FEBE, i remember rearranging the toolbar buttons and adding the search engines again (though there is a specific option in FEBE to backup and restore search plugins)
But am not sure if it was because of an error on my part or FEBE... So, I don't want to take chances.
Ofcourse I din't stop using it, coz it restored all other stuff (extensions, preferences, etc)

Thanks for the tip on copying the entire folder... I'll check it out next time
And if it works... bye bye FEBE!

I needed "search.sqlite"
I have FEBE extension.. but I am not sure whether it backs up those 'search engines'
Thanks mwang!

I would suggest a screenrecorder in addition to a program that does the painting automatically. I bought Corel Painter 4 Essentials about a month ago. It allows to follow an automatic redrawing of an image or photo to something painted. Well, it looks like a painter doing her work (if you don't activate the transparent presentation of the original image). If I use a screenrecorder to track what's going on on the screen this should create your demanded result.

Hint: the automatic painting is not available with older releases than Painter 4 Essentials. So, don't mix up with this offer (I updated because of some nice features of Photoimpact, e.g. Golden Ratio Crop or flexible calendar design, but not because of the additional free stuff), that delivers the old and ugly user interface of Painter Essentials 3:

Thats pretty cool! thanks!

Thanks!

Thanks PhilB66, for the suggestions!
But, well... they are the normal animation programs
What I am looking for, is a program which will show/exhibit/animate as a video, the "DRAWING/SKETCHING PROCESS" of any drawing/sketch/photo that is given a input.

I was searching for an software which would turn a sketch into a drawing animation...

Then, I came across "DrawSWF" here...
https://www.donation...enSource1/index.html

The program is cool, but just wanted to know if there is a software which does the animation AUTOMATICALLY, given a photo or a sketch, without the requirment to do all the drawing??

Thanks!

Oh! Okay, now I understand what exactly you meant.. sure, it helps! Thanks!

Very simple way to handle this: G:\myfavapp\app.exe = \myfavapp\app.exe. Problem solved :)

Ehtyar.

It doesn't work!
I thought it would work with Windows Explorer... but no luck, in my comp atleast
But when command line is used for programs, it definitely does not work!

Thanks a lot, edbro!

There is if you use Powerpro. I use the following startup script:

local DrvLtr = select(pprofolder, 3) ; selects the drive letter that Powepro is running from
local string = "T: " ++ DrvLtr ; build string to send to the subst command line
local ed = DrvLtr ++ ?"powerpro\substt.exe" ; renamed subst.exe to fool restrictions on work computer
do(ed, string) ; Assigns USB drive to T:

If you had any other utility running that reported back the drive letter you could use subst.exe from a batch file.

Oh! I do use PowerPro... yet, cannot figure out how to use this startup script  :-\
Could you explain it in detail please?

And, is PowerPro portable? Would be great, if it is!

I would like to assign letters from Z,Y,X... backwards to my removable drives to eliminate/minimize the possibility of conflict  :)

40
Is there a way to assign a Fixed Drive Letter for a removable drive (usb or hard drive), irrespective of the computer with which it is used?

I would like to have some toolbars, macros, etc. to use Fixed Paths, even when used in other computers..

Cheers!

General Review Discussion / Customised Reviews???
« on: September 11, 2007, 12:15 PM »
Just wanted to share a thought...  :-\

It is an accepted fact that (in most cases) there can't be a SINGLE recommendation of "THE" software, for everyone, in a particular category (unless there is an exceptionally well-built application, far ahead of competition)

Reason: Varied preferences in respect of features or uses

So, would it be a good idea to provide users with a (more) INTERACTIVE and CUSTOMISED REVIEW?

for e.g.
1) A user is provided with a list of features relevant to a category
2) User assigns weightage to each of those features (say bet. -10 and +10)
3) Based on the weightage, a calculation is made and a CUSTOMISED COUNTDOWN of the applications is provided

He hee... What do you say?  :P

Can we have a REALTIME filter in Open/Save Dialogs (probably, next to the folder tree drop-down list)..
or is there a software which does that already???

PhilB66! Thanks for the links..

MouseLight seemed nice, so i downloaded and tried it!
It uses TWICE as much CPU as the one jgpaiva created

As regards SpotOnTheMouse.. i liked the feature "click circles" (red circles shown when clicked)
otherwise, IMO it doesnt look too cool for a formal presentation

Just hope we can come up with something much better than either :)

Yeah! processor usage is high... but i dont think that would be much of a problem during simple presentations... i guess!

Aah! that should be great! I'll be grateful :)

Oops.. I din't know those features were difficult.. Fine, forget it! I asked for them, because I had seen something like that in Screenshot Captor

Anyways, one more addon... if we could configure KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS to temporarily enable and disable, when the application is running in the background, it would be of help :)
