General Software Discussion / Re: VLC - Is it worth it still?

I'm all for side-stepping codec hell and going for an all in one solution. My player of choice: PotPlayer. BTW, I heard (unconfirmed) KMPlayer took the Adware route with their latest iteration.

Making a virtual prisoner out of him serves as a message in itself. Why (openly) bend the law when you have enough leverage to make someone's life hell?

Edit: I realize the last statement sounds extremely naive - this is the US we're talking about, after all. My point is - I don't expect ninja assassins to go after the guy but then 40 is a far wiser man than me.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: CD jewel case insert file list

Some music doesn't deserve to be ripped to flac.  :P

On a slight tangent, production value has such a huge impact on sound quality. For instance, every track this artist releases, [the track linked to streams @128 kbps - the download's @320] sounds just as good, if not better than most mp3s and some lossless files I've heard.

Living Room / Re: Go dark for IE - October 26, 2012

Iain, from the site Josh linked to:

Why not just show a simple upgrade banner? Or why not just fix the bugs and get sites working in old versions?

The problem is some users just don't upgrade! And the reasons is very simple, some just don't care, some don't know how to, and some can't because of their IT department. In any case, as long as old versions of a browser remain the default on a computer, people will use it and developers will be forced to continue to develop for it.

TBH, I don't expect this approach to work either.

Edit: Scrolled all the way down. There are five websites participating so far.  :P

Edit 2: Facebook started phasing out support for IE7 at the end of last year. I don't expect them to start targeting IE8 anytime soon. ;)
