Sorry for the trouble Ehtyar, but FARR and foobar users will eternally thank you for this. Its only because your plugin is good that it is in demand.

Hi, with foobar 0.9.5, I get a message saying (SendMessageError) FARR Window Not Found. Any way to modify the alias to work? foobar was running, but in tray when I tried this.

Just remember when you've problem with others and depressed or don't know anything to do,just went your aggression out on video game man... >:(  Play games like serious sam, quake & any other with higher difficlty level on.Just let your negative forces be quite,i know if you can't beat simple AI in game then what's the point beating others in the world.

To add on to that, I would recommend physical exercise. There's nothing like a good cardio workout or sand bag punching to get destressed. Meditation is a good idea too, but it never seemed to work for me. Just can't sit still....

Like J-Mac, I didn't notice much either. Anyway, from what I can infer, you deleted all the posts you had made to date? I didn't even know that was possible. You would have to individually edit and delete the contents of each post?

Anyhow, welcome back.

It seems that Dreamhost has agreed to refund all their customers for any charges they may have incurred on their cards. This includes overdrafts that the banks may have charged the affected customers. More information on the following official blog posts :

Funny, where did all those angry people threatening to sue go all of a sudden?

Finished Programs / Re: IDEA: Scrollable Desktop Like a Folder
« on: January 20, 2008, 05:23 PM »
I recently found a solution to this problem without using Ave's ExtraDesktops. There is an <a href="http://www.autohotke...ic.php?p=49814#49814">AHK script here</a> that does more or less what I want. When I press Windows Key + 4, I get a details view on the desktop, which is great. There is even sortable headings like Name, Size, Type, Date, etc. just like a real folder. Unfortunately, the selected column is grey in color, much like it appears on standard folders.

1) Is there  any way to avoid coloring the selected column a different color on all folders?

2) Is there a way to make this details view appear as the default view on the desktop. Right now, every time I have to press Windows Key + 4 to switch to this view, the default view being large icons.

3) Is there anyway to make the folder scroll? On the AHK post, it says the desktop should scroll like a folder, but in my case, it does not seem to. The remaining desktop items simply go below the screen and cannot be accessed.

I got one of these emails last night, telling me that they could not charge my card and I had a limited time to pay up. I've been with Dreamhost for a year and a half now and had no major problems, but I suspect they will be losing a few customers over this screw up.

And what makes you think Apple would not like to know its customer's usage patterns as well?
Hey apple never released any software that tracks data from users computer to their server not even licesne or system information etc.On the otherhand windows does this to check the licesne, winbdows versionetc.

Okay, I'm just curious then, how does Apple OS update itself over the internet?

Google does this by reading your email and displaying ads.also Google desktop indexes your files on computer and organizes the search engine & advertisers accordingly.Evry google software is created keeping advertisers in mind, thats why apps are free.
If so, Google will do that on any OS their apps work on, including the Mac (if they make any apps for the mac). But fortunately, there are other options for indexing and searching besides Google that will not show advertising information. See Locate32 for a great example.

I found out about Ave's Extra Desktops before, but for some reason, it does not work on my PC. I can't even see the 'configure desktops...' options upon right clicking the desktop.

Safari is joke for browser definition
I don't think so,ask this to any apple user. They'll turn this thread into flame war. What mistake apple did is made safari available to Windows platform.Mistake is :
Of course they will turn it into a flame war. While there are intelligent and matured Mac users out there, the majority that you find online will be blind fanboys. But not to say that Linux and Windows don't have their own fanbases. The ultimate measure of a program's success for me is this : the amount of work I can get done in a certain period of time. In that respect, Safari failed quite miserably on Windows and FF has come out tops, except when it crashes (occasionally).

  • Windows is highly saturated platform of developers.
Agreed.

  • There is no appreciation for innation or portablity or any reason.
There may not be emphasis on portability from Microsoft, but the users certainly appreciate it. See portableapps.com

  • Lot of criticism can be achieved for designing app for windows platform.
Criticism against developers is not limited to Windows, though given its larger userbase, its easy to see how competiting software programs will all fight for a chunk of the user's time.

  • Almost 6 user out 10 don't want to pay for software.
Most users on any OS don't want to pay for software if they can get it for free, which is why piracy (even for the Mac) thrives. A quick search on mininova for this week's torrent cloud will illustrate the point.

  • They don't care if their information is accesible by Microsoft & google.,they want free thing.
If you get a good firewall, your information won't be so easily accessible to MS or Google. And what makes you think Apple would not like to know its customer's usage patterns as well?

I just use CCleaner. Doesn't that clear out the temp automatically?

I have all three installed (IE, FF, Opera). I've always admired many features of Opera, but because FF works better with more sites, I've always tried to implement Opera's features in FF through plugins and use FF as my main browser.

But since Opera 9.5 beta, I've set Opera as my main browser. While it eats about the same amount of RAM as FF, it renders a hell lot faster and the whole application feels snappier. Even on poorly coded sites with broken HTML (e.g. Myspace), Opera doesn't hang. On mobile devices, I think that Opera enjoys better market share on desktop. Opera mini is far better than its mobile counterparts.

As for IE, I only use it when nothing else works. Sadly, there are still websites that will work only with IE. IE7 is certainly an improvement in features, but is slower than IE6 and still far behind FF and Opera.

Safari is frankly a joke of a browser. I tried it on Windows and even lesser known browsers like K-Meleon and Seamonkey have more features out of the box. Its resource usage isn't small either, especially for such limited features. I understand that Safari on a Mac is a very different experience since its integrates closely with the rest of the system much like IE on Windows. But even then its features seem limited over FF or Opera.

While the browser market clearly has dominant leaders, I would like to see more small and lite browsers such as K-Meleon and Dillo continue to develop and make new versions. Dillo is particularly attractive due to its tiny resource usage, but development on it seems to have stopped. Flock on the other hand is really FF with more bang out of the box.

Well clearly, despite my overall liking for animals, I am not an experienced pet owner. This is the first time I've owned a cat (actually its been here for over a year now) and I'm still learning to get acquainted.

WinScroll is a nice program, but is there a way to make it scroll the desktop icons? It seems to only scroll the opened Windows themselves, which I actually don't want to scroll. My actual problem is this : When Pitaschio turns desktop icons into list view, it puts a limit on the length of the filename before it starts to overlap with an icon of the next column. See the below screenshot of a sample desktop.

[attachthumb=#2][/attachthumb]
On the other hand, a typical Windows folder does not suffer this problem, regardless of the length of the file name. If I turn the wheel, the window just keeps scrolling horizontally (in list view) or vertically (in details view) regardless of how many icons I have. I would like my desktop to have this feature of Windows folders. In fact, a desktop that looks like the below minus the toolbars and status bars and with support for wallpapers would be nice.

« on: January 11, 2008, 11:59 PM »
I regularly use Pitaschio and its list view for the desktop. However, the once you reach the bottom of the screen, the new icons are placed at the top again, next to the my computer icons, forming a second column. Moreover, the new icon's sometimes overlap the text of the first column of icons.

I would like to know if it would be possible to set the entire desktop to act like a scrollable window. I would like my desktop to be like a fully open and maximized window of Windows Explorer in list or details view with a scrollbar on the right so that I can scroll down to see the remaining files. However, I would still like to retain the ability to use wallpapers and I do not wish for the wallpaper itself to scroll.

My searching on the Internet has brought me to a program called <a href="http://www.nearestexit.com/sdesk">SDesk</a>, but even after installing it and reading the help files, I am not too sure if it does what I need. SDesk seems allow the desktop size to be enlarged beyond the visible area of the screen and then lets the user zoom in on specific regions of the desktop.

I don't know much of anything about setting up an FTP server. Can you resume transfers at any time without any problems?

Yes, if you set up the FTP server to support resuming transfers.

General Software Discussion / Re: TOP 11 Tools for Sending BIG Files
« on: January 10, 2008, 11:13 PM »
FTP - Still the number one tool for sending large files, especially if you own domain name. Or a <a href="http://www.no-ip.com">free one</a> can always be obtained. The biggest advantage of FTP is that if you set up a server on your own machine, you don't need to waste time uploading the files to some other site before sending the link to someone else. Especially if you have a low upload speed like most home users do. Pando seems to use the same principle, but is limited to 1GB files.

As a side note, its clear to see how the service could be used to become a large P2P network servicing those especially stuck behind restrictive proxies and firewalls. <a href="http://www.omemo.com">Omemo</a> is a new file sharing service based upon this concept, but I've not tried it yet.

General Software Discussion / Re: FeedDemon going free
« on: January 10, 2008, 11:02 PM »
Google Reader is still missing one big feature : Support for Authentication on Feeds. That's probably the only feature that is still keeping me from switching to it entirely. Also, Newzie is more than a feed reader, it also supports monitoring of changes to websites that don't have feeds. Another famous shareware tool, website watcher also monitors regular web pages, forums and the like.

I had emailed the Newzie team a while back, praising their software. They are apparently planning a web version as well along with more features to the desktop version.

Having tried FeedDaemon as a trialware in the past, I can't say I'm too impressed with its resource usage even though it does boast many features. It does not strike me as a 'light' feed reader. Neither does RSSOwl or RSS Bandit for that matter.

I've changed my mind about kittens (and cats in general). They're not all cute, furry animals. Some are viscous creatures that will eat your food, then scratch and bite your hands.

How bout the others?!
1. Final term yet to start.
2. Been doing my research, yet to meet team.
3. Picked up a book, yet to read it.
4. Resumed training, got cramps on the first day, out for 3 days.
5. Trying to meet more intelligent people who might have spent their lives finding the answer and will discuss with me.

Another freeware alternative: NetMeter http://www.metal-machine.de/readerror/

>>>>F-4>>>>

I use Netmeter as well. Uses about 5MB Working set and 33 MB virtual size. And less than 1% CPU.
