General Software Discussion / Re: Win10 installation with MBR
« on: July 03, 2016, 04:03 PM »
Thank you very much, Shades, for your answer.

To recapitulate: If I preformat the SSD as MBR, then Win10 will make an MBR installation. So I can format the SSD as one big partition, correct?

What about the UEFI BIOS - do I need to change anything there.

General Software Discussion / Win10 installation with MBR
« on: July 03, 2016, 01:02 PM »
Hi,

I just purchased a refurbished Lenovo Thinkpad T430. It comes with Win7 Pro.

I bought a new 128GB SSD (my first SSD - the laptop has  a 320GB HD right now) and would like to make a clean windows 10 install and have already downloaded the ISO with Media Builder.

I prefer to have Win10 x64 installed with an MBR so that I can continue to use my vast collection of drive utilities, especially Diskcryptor, which won't work on UEFI/GPT. I do not want to use bitlocker and - please - no discussion about this. :)

Before I had a Thinkpad SL410.

How can I do it? What are the pitfalls and points to regard in this process. What are the BIOS changes I need to do? Does the SSD need any special handling (alignment, etc?)?

Thanks for your tips!

I tried to connect to the forum via tapatalk today, and when I searched in tapatalk for the forun, I found a working entry saying "Live information from the Donationcoder.com forum"  but I was not able to connect through tapatalk to the forum itself.

Will you still make tapatalk available to read the forum?

It would be great.

Hey Mouser,

could we have Tapatalk on the new forum?

It would make it so much easier for me and others to follow the forum when I can have it on my mobile! :)

Excellent and well priced 3GB phone with Dual-SIM Dual-standby:

Dual-SIM dual standby *may* do what you want.

You will be able to have GPS while having any of your SIM cards engaged, since GPS is independent (as already explained by another poster) and will even work in airplane mode.

On DS standby while you are *engaged* on one SIM card (voice, there are different schemes that deal with data) the other SIM card goes into standby mode, i.e. no incoming SMS or calls or data.

While you are on a phone call with one SIM, in most cases you will not be able to receive an SMS on the SIM card, but you *will* receive any SMS sent to you while you were on that call as soon as you hang up (on DS dual standby), since the provider buffers the SMS and sends it once the SIM card is available again. Some Dual SIM Dual Standby schemes may work slightly different.

Here is a phone with Dual SIM dual active (be careful, different model versions and different features, some may only have Dual SIM dual standby):
