[just in case noone noticed, this thread was 2 years old and was revived by necro spamming by a bot :P ]

Dammit.  I bit on it.  My bad.  Though I still stand by my statements, and who doesn't love a good ol' linux vs. windows fight?

I've tried Linux over, and over, and over again.

I've tried RedHat, Slackware, Gentoo, Mandriva, OpenSuse, Debian, Ubuntu (and the other-buntus), and numerous others that I can't even recall.

I've tried single boots, dual boots, dedicated machines, Live CDs, and VMs.

I've been at it since 1997.

Each and every time, I go back to Windows for my daily computing needs.

It's not that Linux is too hard or that I don't want to learn new things.

It's not that I think Linux is useless.  In fact, I administer a Linux server that hosts quite a few websites.

It's just that Windows does everything I need my home PC to do, and Linux is still more trouble than it's worth for daily use.

Perhaps companies like Microsoft, Apple, and Paypal can afford to ignore attacks because of their size.  For all the complaining people do about each of them, they still make millions.  For someone like Lady GaGa, the "negative" press is actually positive in that a celebrity exists because of publicity (- or +).

For a smaller company like the one that develops PhraseExpress, these kinds of attacks can be much more damaging.

Does that mean that I am 100% comfortable with the tone of BartlesMedia's posts here on DC and other forums?  No, it does not.  When PE was on BitsDuJour recently, I immediately thought of his posts here and that did make me hesitate when it came to buying the software.  By the end of the day, however, I decided that the software fulfilled my needs better than the other options out there so I made the purchase.  I do think there are better ways to handle one's public image, but I don't fault him for wanting to respond to attacks like the original post in this thread.

Also, and please do not take this the wrong way, I wonder if the oddities in tone, humor, and how BartlesMedia "does business" is, at least somewhat, a product of English not being his first language.  I say this because I have worked with many such individuals who's writing has similar issues.  As a teacher, I can attest that tone is difficult for many native speakers to master, let alone non-native speakers.

I've worked through about a third of a spindle of these discs and have yet to have a bad burn.

Thanks for the heads up.

DISCLAIMER - I am not affiliated with PE in any way other than being a registered user.

I also purchased a license and am finding it to be an excellent addition to my workflow.  I have already created dozens of phrases and macros that help in everything from responding to emails to automatically writing lengthy html and php snippets.

Neat Net Tricks software review panel reviewed the $139.95 version of Phrase Express.  Six panel members submitted their reports, which were in general rather negative.

I read through the review, and I feel that they do have some valid points, but a lot of their negative comments seem excessive and repetitive.  For example, they harp on the fact that PE autostarts with Windows constantly throughout the review.  In addition, they have inserted responses from the developer throughout their review, but did not take his responses into account and edit their review in any way.  They accuse PE of being spyware more than once, even though the developer responded to each and every claim with references to their privacy policy and other pages that addressed the concerns.  Other complaints seem downright silly ("One needs also be aware that while it is only a 3.7MB download, it requires 8.3MB of space on the hard drive").

The conclusion reached by most of the members of the NNT panel is that they will not continue using the program as they do not have a use for it.  It left me wondering why they would spend so much time and energy reviewing a program and being so "nitpicky" if they aren't the target audience in the first place.

All the Genie serials have now been sent out.  Thank you for your patience.

I have the Genie serials.

PMs sent to the winners.

It seems there have been issues with getting the genie registrations.  My contact should be emailing me the serials soon so I can send them out to you.  I apologize for the delay.

109
I wonder... is there any benefit to purchasing this if one already has a license to DO9?

you bought the potato sack :)

Sure did.

And Defense Grid is great

Sure is.

111
I've thought about doing that.  If I don't decide on a method to determine who gets them sometime soon I'll drop them into the giveaway.

However, I would love to find some kind of hoop to make people jump through to get the games.  :)

I have the following Steam games to give away:

AaaaaaAAaaaAAAaa
Audiosurf
Defense Gird
Super Meat Boy
Toki Tori

My question for you is how to decide who on DC should get them?

I store my pics on SmugMug.  I pay for it, but I am not concerned that it will all disappear without warning.

Edit:  Looks like many of the users quoted in the news story were paying customers of fotopic.  Scary.

Yeah, it's all fun and games until someone loses an eye... or in my case, his mind because one of his domains isn't working.  :wallbash:

I'm with a VPS.  If you were to call or email them about something like MX records, they would point you at a website that tells you how to do it and tell you to do it yourself.  I call it security through RTFM.

General Software Discussion / Re: onOne software

I was testing the same suite and ran into some technical problems using it with Lightroom 3.  I emailed support multiple times and was ignored.  I even sent an email saying I was ready to purchase if I could get the problem resolved.  Never heard back from them.  Obviously they lost the sale.

Official Announcements / Re: September 2008 Discounts
« on: December 17, 2010, 09:07 AM »
As often as they can be arranged.  The Discount Coordinators on this site are volunteers, so they do not always have as much time to work on discounts as they would like.  Is there anything in particular that you would like a discount on?

Very cool.  Looking forward to this one.

I have a lifetime AnyDVD license.

I use a lot of multimedia when creating educational videos.  I love that AnyDVD is just sitting there and lets me use whatever program I want to get clips.  Occasionally, a new release DVD has a copy protection scheme that stumps AnyDVD.  I can't recall an instance, however, where the devs didn't release an update within a week or two that solved the problem.

What the hell did you do to your cat to get those pics?
