I have now created and sent the license keys by e-mail.

If you haven't received the license key, please check your SPAM folder or give me a short reply in this thread (last year not all winners received the e-mail due to spam protection).

With WsW I can tell it could probably save me time one it's all set up like I would like it, but it costs time to figure out, and I simply never spent that time. I did try since i had LWA and i thought it'd be nice to have WsW to check and update pages snapped in LWA. But it turned out to be time consuming so I gave up. This was 2005 or even 2004 so it's probably smooth and wonderful now, and I'm more patient, so I will listen and try it again.

@iphigenie, WSW has many options, but initially all options have typical default values. So you should be able to start working immediately after you have installed WSW.

Since 2005, several Wizards have been implemented (especially for web forums or newsgroups).

For normal web pages, simply create a new bookmark, add the URL and click the "Check Now" button, that's all. You can also import bookmarks from IE, Firefox or Opera.

For a quick start, you can also watch the videos at http://www.aignes.com/support.htm where you can see how to work with the forum wizard, the filter wizard or how to use the AutoFilter functionality.

I suggest that, even if you don't think you "need" Website Watcher, do yourself a favor and try out the demo this month

Downloading now...  ;)

tinjaw, glad that you like WebSite-Watcher. Great post, thanks...

Living Room / Re: password-protect external HD (USB)?
« on: January 20, 2007, 10:03 AM »
Since a year or so I use TrueCrypt every day and never had a problem with it.

I have for example one TrueCrypt container on my hard drive where the whole development things are stored (source codes, customer data base, etc.), or another container on an external hard disk (~150 GB in size) which is only used to back up data (done with SyncBackSE). Also USB sticks can be encrypted!

TrueCrypt gives me also some kind of peace when I'm out of office, it's one of the tools I could not live without. Highly recommended.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Acronis True Image for FREE
« on: October 11, 2006, 01:38 AM »
I use V7 for a long time now without any problems. AFAIK v9 has better hardware support and also the ability to backup/restore selected folders.

I tested v9 some time ago and the backups were faster and the target file smaller than in v7, but V7 works very reliable for me and does everything I need. I stay with v7 because it works :)

ProcessTamer / Re: Force kill after XX seconds
« on: September 21, 2006, 03:54 AM »
my next plan for process tamer is to allow some flexible rules, i will make sure to add one like this:
kill app X app if its cpu use is over Y for Z minutes.

wow, great :)

(am i understanding this right, that its a specific process you want to specify for killing?)

it's a single application.

In the current ProcessTamer version I can use the explicit rule "Force kill", but I would need a "Force kill after 30 seconds of >90% CPU usage" or something like that.

So your mentioned "kill app X if its cpu use is over Y for Z minutes" will exactly do what I need. Thanks :)

ProcessTamer / Force kill after XX seconds
« on: September 21, 2006, 03:07 AM »
I think I read it also in another thread, but the only thing I really miss in your excellent ProcessTamer tool is the explicit rule:

Force kill after XX seconds

XX could also be a static value (for example 30 seconds or something like that).

In one of the tools I use for batch processing when I'm not in front of my PC, the CPU often goes up to 100% for a few seconds what is OK, but sometimes it hangs in an endless loop. In that case it would be very helpful to kill it after 30 seconds or so...

General Software Discussion / Re: My favorite software! What's yours?
« on: September 21, 2006, 02:39 AM »
Here's a list of tools I use daily (and I really love them):

- Servant Salamander 2.5
- SyncBackSE
- WinRAR
- TheBat
- Scotty (WinPatrol Plus)
- TrueCrypt (for the sources of my apps)
- ProcessTamer
- EditPadPro (I use it also to write forum posts with live spelling and a good set of predefined clips for quotes, bold text, URLs, text phrases etc. and a custom highlighter to colorize quotes and other stuff. It's the fastest way to answer questions in my own forums)

And of course my own tools:

- WebSite-Watcher
- AM-Notebook
- Local Website Archive

Ah!  aignes is the author of AM himself!  Welcome!

thanks. Oh, I didn't mention that I'm the author  :P

I still can't figure out how to open multiple databases even when using groups and tabs.

1) Open database #1
2) Open a note from database #1 in a new tab
3) Open database #2
4) Open a note from database #2 in a new tab

Then you have notes from different databases opened.

5) Save opened tabs as group

Opening this group will re-open these tabs/notes from database #1 and #2

35
If you want, you can open different notes in their own tabs.  And when you have a bunch of tabs open, you can save that configuration as a "group".  I don't know how useful this is but it's kind of cool.  However, even though it has this tabbed feature, it's not like you can open different databases up at once.  In fact, AM can only have one database open at once.

superboyac, you're right, you can only open one database at once (what means you display the note list in a specific directory location), but you can open notes from different databases in different tabs at the same time, also via the mentioned Group functionality.

We use this feature a lot when opening related notes from the local database and the network database, they can all be opened via the Group functionality with a single operation.

In AM, you can encrypt the whole note.  The only problem is that once it's unlocked and you go to another note and you come back, it's locked again.

If you want to keep it opened, you can open it in a separate tab. But for security reasons, it is locked as soon as you minimize AM-Notebook.

There's a clip/templates feature on the program that I have no idea what it does and I couldn't find any documentation for it.  But I'm curious...

Found this in the help file:
"The clip collection allows you to store common blocks of text and templates for quick repeated reuse. You can create clips manually with the New button, or you can save the selected text of a note as new clip.
To insert the contents of a clip into the note you are editing, simply double-click it or drag&drop it onto the spot where you want to insert it.
Clips can be renamed via the context menu and moved to other folders by drag&drop. To move a clip to a parent folder, simply drag it to the "folder-up" button in the toolbar."

usually the only slightly tricky part is setting the strings to pay attention to and ignore in order to only detect new posts.

this can be done with the forum wizard (3 steps). This wizard will also create all required ignore/watch filters automatically.

Can you quickly descrbe how you conigured wsw? I have been struggling to make it log me with my username and take me to my unread topics...

As mouser said, it should be possible with your cookies. If you don't want to stay logged in permanently or if the forum doesn't support it, then you have to record a check-macro for the login...

Best Website Change Monitoring Tool / Re: compared with Check and Get
« on: January 25, 2006, 02:10 AM »
I was interested to see if Check & Get would fit my needs, especially since I missed the discount. However, judging from the date of the post, it does seem that v3 is taking a very long time.

Any chance of a rerun of Website Watcher discount?

ethan, as you have missed the discount, you can contact me directly by email to get one afterwards if you are interested in WebSite-Watcher. You can find our email on our website...

General Software Discussion / Re: Warning: WinRAR bug ???
« on: November 22, 2005, 01:56 AM »
There is a fairly large collection of PhotoShop tutorials in a series of nested folders on my hard disc. I have checked the disk thoroughly and there are no errors. When I use the Wondows Explorer context menu extension to compress the entire folder structure into a RAR file it all seems to go well (except it takes a long time). However, when I test the RAR file it comes up with a number of CRC errors.

Do you refer to the "Test archived files" feature in the "Archive names and parameters" dialog, or do you test the archive after creation with "Commands+Test archived files". And do you run into the same problems when you use the Zip compression method in WinRAR?

I use WinRAR since years and never experienced a problem with it. But I think I should test my archives in future, it's probably a big mistake to rely on backups without testing them  :-\

Just a thought, but could probably a damaged file or a hard disk failure confuse WinRAR that way?

General Software Discussion / Re: 2 questions for shareware authors
« on: November 18, 2005, 02:20 AM »
What do you get out of it that makes it worth it?  I have also looked into a membership but just can't justify the cost..

You get a lot of reliable information from other shareware authors, there are discussions about software protections, how to limit a trial version or experiences with promotions, just to list a few. I got lots of useful ideas and information from that organization...

Another organization is AISIP - http://www.aisip.com/
I'm not a member yet, but I'm sure that I will join sooner or later this year. It's a smaller community than the ASP, and I think most AISIP members (a list is on their page) are also member of the ASP. It's cheaper, and on their page you can also find a list of typical postings which are similar to postings in the ASP newsgroups, but what I have heard is that there is not such high traffic.

I'm in the same boat as you and manually submit applications using the PAD files.  I have compiled and maintain a list where my applications are - this list tells me if they support PAD submissions and if they require an account to submit software.

Here are some other lists (if you want to take the time to submit your products manually ;) ):

http://www.develab.n...list.cgi?sort=addrev (=list of pages supported by PromoSoft which I use for submissions)

General Software Discussion / Re: 2 questions for shareware authors
« on: November 17, 2005, 09:46 AM »
so we released a new app here (Unicode Image Maker), and each time we do i have to go around and manually submit these pad files to different software sites so that people will find out about our programs.  It's really annoying.  I use shareware .pad files which help a lot, but some sites inexplicably still do not take them and require you to enter by hand.  even those that do are often a real pain.

question 1:
has anyone tried those automatic software submission programs? do they work well?

I use Promosoft from http://www.develab.net/ and it works well for me. Submissions work in approx. 80% of the supported sites, 20% of the submissions end in an error. Has also a nice search feature to verify on how many pages you are listed.

Another tool which is often recommended is Robosoft but I have never used it. Available at http://rudenko.com/robosoft/

question 2 is, anyone a member of shareware association? do you think its worth the membership dues?

yes, I'm a member of ASP-Shareware for several years now and it worth the money, at least for me.

General Software Discussion / Re: software i love
« on: November 17, 2005, 06:28 AM »
The first software I install on a fresh Windows is the file manager Servant Salamander, and I could not live without it!   :)

There's an older freeware version that can still be downloaded while the latest shareware version 2.5 blows away most other file managers. v2.5 has many tools included which I use in my daily work, for example a very well working directory + file compare feature.

Website watcher is also one of those rare programs that seems like it can't get any better

hey, wait for the next versions and you will modify your posting ;)

As mentioned in one of my emails, I will add some donationcoder URLs to the default bookmarks set for new WebSite-Watcher installations, so new users will have them in their list. Maybe this helps a bit to promote donationcoder.

Feel free to add your site URL and maybe a few details to your forum signature.

yep, thanks! Already done.

I just want to thank mouser for his wonderful pages, for his excellent ideas and all his work, I really like the idea behind the donationcoder site.

So I'm very happy that I'm now part of this community and that I can support mouser and the donationcoder fans with some free licenses of WebSite-Watcher (WSW got the Best-Software-On-The-Planet award in April 2005) and a 50% discount for donationcoder members who don't have the luck to win a free copy.

Have a nice celebration month  :)
