Living Room / Bypassin the proxy server
« on: December 14, 2006, 01:13 AM »
Hi everyone,

I'm using WhatPulse at work, but I can't bypass our proxy server using HTTP-Tunnel-Client anymore  :( I keep getting the error "Remote server rejected the connection". Does anyone know of another good tool to try for this purpose?

Developer's Corner / Re: Let's Make us some Games!
« on: December 13, 2006, 04:04 PM »
If you can develop a single-user version and keep a possible multi-player approach in mind, you can always see if implementing multi-player functionality is appreciated and/or feasible and add it later.

I'll think about some ideas for the game and post it later!

Okay Folks,

I browsed through the topic once to get a list of people who want to participate. Some have indicated that they were not sure or are not quite clear about whether they are in or not.

It would be nice if the people marked with a question mark in the following list could tell us if they are in or not. I'm very curious about the number of apps that are really going to be released (in Beta or not). The list is getting quite large:

1. mouser
2. Mobysaurus
3. app103
4. Lashiec ?
5. Eóin ?
6. tinjaw
7. Ruffnekk
8. JoTo
9. Defenestration
10. Poolee
11. gregheaton
12. brotherS ?
13. dementedpuppet
14. skrommel
15. hamradio
16. E
17. hollowlife1987
18. skwire
19. doublebogey
20. kyrathaba
21. Deozaan ?
22. jgpaiva ?
23. Phate
24. wraith808
25. Redhat ?
26. Arjen
27. daedalian thoughts
28. Veign
29. Blaster

Well, I guess the new year has a lot of Beta testing and debugging sessions ahead :D Man, it's going to be awesome!!

Congrats Mouser! Lots of comments for you to Digg through and pick up possible issues ;)

2nd try: Score: 445 = Cells: +720 | Elapsed: -75 | Failed: -200

Very nice game Tekzel! Awesome idea to use the DC tiles :)

I use C# as the second language the most, but that's basically just porting existing code snippets from C# to VB .NET because I don't have C# installed  :-[

232
Besides the VS IDE I use a hex editor, VIM, Google, the MSDN library and pen & paper. Required accessoires on my desk are Twinkies®, coffee, an ashtray and a bunch of cigarettes  That's about all I need to code away :)

This has turned out to be some kind of weird freak-thread  :-* Old guys looking for teenage girls and stuff, people puking all over the forum.. man I'm outta here!  :P

Hmmm.. quite an unusual request  How about some Winnie the Pooh plush slippers? I once bought them for my wife and she was very pleasantly surprised by the fact that it wasn't some kind of cliche gift again  ;D Of course I ran into trouble next year, but that's another story!  :'( Any way, here's a link to the ones similar to what I bought... Please note that I will deny every involvement in this matter in case you decide to follow my advice and it doesn't turn out to be what you expected  :P

DonationCoder Projects / DonationCoder Programming Tips and Tricks
« on: December 11, 2006, 05:55 AM »
Hi everyone,

I haven’t been a member for long, but I really love this site and its forums. There’s only one thing that I really miss though, and that’s a section in which users (programmers) can post self-made Tips and Tricks posts for a specific language. I was thinking an extra sub-forum under ‘Developer’s Corner’ could be created, with a sub-board for each (common) language. The kind of posts I expect there are tips and tricks ranging from novice to hardcore, from which everyone can benefit or start a discussion about. It can also act as a FAQ board, in which users who see a particular question asked over and over again can post their knowledge and create a FAQ for it.

What do you think? Maybe you feel the current board structure is sufficient?

VB .NET and C# here, but mostly VB .NET.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Treo-like "Alt" key for Windows
« on: December 11, 2006, 01:01 AM »
Okay I found it. You should use the United States International keyboard settings: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306560
I hope it’s an option for you :)

« on: December 11, 2006, 12:58 AM »
I’m not an expert on this area, but I can tell you how my keyboard (Dutch layout) works. My keyboard doesn’t have any accented characters mapped on it, the layout is almost identical to the US one. But sometimes in Dutch you do need an accented character and the way you can quickly get it is by pressing one key and then another. For example, if I need an é I will type the ´ sign first and then the e. Typing the ´ sign doesn’t display it until I press another key. This also works for other symbols like ´, `, ¨, ~, ¸ and ^. Thus you can quickly type characters like é á ó í, è à ò ì, ë ä ö ï, ñ ã õ, ç and ê î â û ô. I think something like this is easier than a popup and I think it should be possible to have this working on US layout as well, since it’s something native to Windows for other keyboards. I’m just not sure yet which files or settings should be manipulated to enable it... I’ll look around to see if I can find it :)

I took this test a couple of times before and it always says I’m INTJ, which according to the description is quite accurate.

Living Room / Re: Real code vs. Code in the movies
« on: December 08, 2006, 12:26 PM »
Me too app. My wife hates it when I start criticizing everything in a movie, especially one about computers or hackers :) Like hacking is all about taking a couple of wild guesses on a huge 36 point font, multi-coloured, 3D animated login prompt and getting it right in every movie  :-\ Same thing with lock-picking.. don’t get me started *G*

241
I have been fiddling with GDI+ and DirectDraw, but getting a PDF file to show and scroll it smoothly is not a simple quest *G*

242
I was working on an app like this a couple of weeks ago. I attached a screenshot of that one to give you an idea of how it looked. I’m gonna finish this any way, so if you think this will suit your needs I will post it here and take your ideas about it in consideration :D

243
This sounds like a feasible idea to me, so I’m going to try and put together some basic framework for this.

244
Hmm.. sounds like an exercise app to develop very muscled toes  :P

245
What kind of documents should this reader be able to display? Plain text only or other formats as well?

246
So let me get this straight, you are looking for a text reader that scrolls down smoothly at a given pace so you can sit back and read an entire document without doing anything?

Living Room / Re: Would you like a rare & valuable Cody mug?
« on: December 07, 2006, 12:46 AM »
Okay I got it right now. I saved the image from this thread as a jpg, then opened it with Photoshop and saved it as a PNG. Doing so, it will report an error that only PNG, JPG/JPEG and GIF are supported, but nonetheless it is now in my uploaded backgrounds :D So that will do the trick!

248
LOL mouser, the acronym for my app is FRD. It’s just about finished :D

I couldn’t upload a custom background either, whichever way I tried.  :o

I really really hope that won't happen, but I fear too! SU is great as it is and I truly hope it remains that way forever  :(
