When I read your first few sentences above I thought you were saying that you only raised $300 during September.  I was beginning to think I was a major contributor % wise.

Great newsletter, shows how much is going on in the site.  Just think 40,000 members in 18 months.  Amazing.

Thanks Carol, that clarified things for me nicely.

PS (I spelt your name wrong in my previous post, sorry).

Thanks Carol, I accessed the trial that way.  I got an email from Xara indicating that I could upgrade from X1 to Xtreme for $US29 but I can't find that price via any link they gave.

Anyhow if I do decide to upgrade I might do it through your affiliate link.  I,ve to decide wheteher I really want/need it first.

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

If you order the upgrade via my link the cheapest price is $39 - if you want to get it for $29 perhaps you should contact Xara by email and ask them how to go about that. It might be that it was only during the offer period - but I don't know for sure.

Carol, do you have Xara Webstyle?  If so what is it like?  Are there better alternatives for web design amateurs like me?  The reason why I am asking is that while I have been trying Xtreme and 3D and find them intuitive (aren't the help movie tuts good?) Webstyle seems to be from a different stable.  But I thought if I was going to by the first two, perhaps I should go the whole hog and get Graphic Studio.

I purchased X1 from this offer and had a fiddle with it last night.  Very impressive.  I regret not having been switched on when the half-price offer for Xtreme and other Xara products was on in August.  At that time I'd hardly ever heard of Xara.

I prurchased this morning, sight unseen and with no idea whether I will really use it.  However I have always liked mucking around with fractals and have created several for use as wallpaper on my computer and phone.

Site/Forum Features / Re: Viewing posts from a particular date.
« on: October 04, 2006, 10:02 PM »
I've found the searching abilities of the forum to be not very helpful. I've searched for topics I absolutely know I saw just the day before and they don't show up. So I've posted about them and someone will link it to me.

These forums have never been too kind to me. I've always had problems with the "Show Unread Posts" option.

I use the "Show Unread Posts" option OK but when I search for say "Xara" which I know has appeared in posts yesterday, I don't get anything more recent than July, eg.

Found Deals and Discounts / ACDSee discount
« on: October 04, 2006, 05:05 AM »
I've noticed in my hunting around there are a few places on the web giving 20% discount coupons on ACDSee.  The one which appears to be working (I didn't actually let the transaction go all the way through) is http://www.secretpri...off-coupon-code.html.  There was one on the WUGNET site but it didn't appear to work and seems to have been withdrawn.

I think as a firewall, Outpost is regarded very highly because it is very secure and very configurable.  And this is probably one software type where functionality cannot be sacrificed for ease of use or some quirkiness.  I still like Kerio (now Sunbelt) and if ZA doesn't live up to expectations and Outpost still hasn't got the FUS I'll probably go with that.  The problems with new releases of Outpost seem to be an issue but some users are finding it OK and it has such a big userbase now that problems are very quickly identified and fed back IMHO.

The lack of proper support for Windows XP Fast User Switching prevents me from using Outpost despite having a 2 year licence (which to be fair I got at a great discount through DonationCoder.com).  I sense an air of defensiveness whenever I mention the issue to Outpost afficionados, and no doubt it is a superior firewall.

I have this brilliant DVD player at home.  It does everything a DVD player could do.  The only problem is it is so complicated my wife and my daughter can't use it.  I have this brilliant firewall at home...

Ho Hum, gee I am having some trouble with this decision.  A return to SmartPix is on the cards as it does just about everything I want.  The only drawback is a complex user interface and I would like to have ACDSee to show my wife and daughter something relatively simple.  OTOH the idea that one has to expand and select the dozens of subdirectories in which my wife's software holds its crafty icons , buttons etc to see them all in one place (or keyword them to do the same thing) is foreign.  So we go to ThumbsPlus, ideal and fast for the 30,000+ images involved but also not lending itself to selecting from them all at once.

What a dilemna!  If I wasn't so stingy I would buy both, and iMatch and IDimager and CodedColor.

Jeff

I only have 280.  Does that make me a social fonter?  Is this problem genetic?

Jeff

113
Does anyone know of a discount source for Thumbsplus?

I assume one can't download the full Xara Xtreme.

I have another question about ACDSee.

I have a group of folders nested several levels deep under one main folder.  There are about 100 folders altogether.  I want to see thumbnails of all the images in these folders at once.  Is there a way of selecting all the subfolders under the parent folder without having to expand each branch and select it seperately?  Or alternatively expand all the subfolders under a parent folder so that one can select them all easily?

It seems to me that this is a pretty basic navigational requirement and I haven't worked out how to do it.

Regards,

Jeff

Maybe I'm tired, but i cannot for the life of me work out how to download the latest version.  I have been going around in circles and the only exit seems to be the version on the download.com site which is not the most current one.  Can anyone help me?

« on: September 24, 2006, 08:21 PM »
I'm actually having trouble getting either product to work properly.  Direct Folders comes up with hieraglyphics for some folder names.  Should I expect it to work with Office '97?  JetStart starts but won't stay running???

Jeff

DesertEagle (aka Jeff, the author of Direct Folders) has sent me a fixed version of JetStart.  I haven't been able to try it yet as I couldn't download it at home.  I am now at work and have got it there.  I will be able to try it tonight, my time.  Thanks Jeff.  With a name like that I can't go wrong.

BTW the reason that I can't download at home is that my broadband connection is down.  The supplier to my ISP, a company called Veridas, has gone down (something to do with a management coup).  This has affected 90 ISP's like mine and 30,000 customers in Australia.  I should be back on line properly mid week, just in time to collect my winnings from the current software draw  ;).

And Code Sector are offering 50% off all their products, including Direct Folders 3, for ONE DAY ONLY... TODAY!

Ampa

This discount appears to be still available as at the time of writing.  I bought Direct Folders and Jet Start Pro; I have been considering the latter for some time.

I'm still deciding.  I find the user interface of Picasa a bit hard to get used too.  I had another look at Picajet FX and find it really intuitive.

Does it help to press F8 thereby opening up the preview pane, either before or after yopu do the search?

Please just confirm for me that one can't view pictures or thumbnails from different directories in Xnview at the one time?  That is really my prime requirement for an image viewer.

In Oz, we usually say "take the mickey".

I notice the price has come down.  I was seriously considering buying v8.0 but was hesitating as I already have SmartPix and just yesterday took the plunge and got its upgrade to v9 for $US13.70.

Sorry, it's OK. I think it's because I was using a previous .ini file.
