General Software Discussion / Re: Automatic text software for Windows

I'm using a bit of commercial software for that purpose: https://www.phraseexpress.com/

Post New Requests Here / Re: Windows Launcher by Only One Key
« on: March 08, 2020, 07:55 AM »
I suppose it may have otherwise been coincidental that the discussion seemed to have come full circle in recommending (per a second ID) that which seemed to have apparently been rejected in the OP (by the first ID).

I guess such things happen. Initially, I was turned away from ML because of the negative comments and also BI seemed to offer far more space for launch-items (and I also liked its approach to just pick running tasks) etc. - but all that is worth nothing when the app refuses to work and support is MIA.

Using the word "advertise" seems to imply some commercial intentions - so maybe it's worth mentioning that ML is freeware...and I have no affiliations with the author. The sole purpose of my post was to possibly help others looking for a useable launcher by providing feedback about my journey (which also involved spending a bit of time on Google...only to finally end up with the initial recommendation...)

Still got no response from Bond Interface (which I really liked, but it stopped running - so I really needed some support), so I went up in the thread and looked at  MaxLauncher. BI has some interesting features like controlling Window-layouts, virtually unlimited shortcuts etc. - but MaxLauncher is a nice & robust tool which does it's job (lauch apps via kbd) very well (and even though it is freeware, support is infinitely better than the commercial BI!). Guess I'll stay with that ;)

Oh sorry, I misunderstood (not a native english reader) - thought you had sent an email!

Website has returned, wasn't alive earlier: The Bond Interface

... less a very important function for me: visual customization, or at least as far as I could see.

Send him an email, maybe he can help ... the program can be trialled for 90 days, maybe it will grow on you ;)

4wd, thanks for that suggestion! I downloaded it and used it for a day - really liked it. The next day it stopped working :(( I finally got to the err-msg which is about not being able to access a StartMenu-Folder. Opened a support-ticket (yesterday), no reply yet. Did you get any response to your email?

Find And Run Robot / Re: >10 "Favs"?

Yes, but can't that letter-approach be modified to recognize Ctrl+F1, Shift+F1, Alt+F1 (or Ctrl+1. Shift+1. Alt+1) ?

Find And Run Robot / >10 "Favs"?

What I find most useful about FARR are the 10 Favorites - I just love how easy I can press a hotkey to get FRR and launch selected app (by kbd or mouse, brilliant)!

But a few more "favorite apps" are installed on my machine that I would like to launch with the same smooth process, so I've been wondering if it would be possible to extend that to 40 favs? Displayed in 4 columns and we have Shift, Ctrl and Alt which could be combined with the fn-keys to select the items...!

Please, please, pleeease consider that idea! I would like that feature so much, I'd donate again! :-)

Thanks! All sorted now :-)

I am sitting here red-faced and embarrassed - but for the life of me I can not find out how to configure that list of "favourites" that farr displayed for me immediately after opening. I don't remember how I got this list, but suddenly it is gone and I'd like to enable it again. (It's not the last search items - somehow I was able to replace that with a handmade list if favourite apps...) Could someone pls. give some directions?

Find And Run Robot / Re: Assign hotkeys to user-toolbar items
« on: July 25, 2017, 05:44 AM »
Thanks - I have used a variety of launchers in the past and mosten often got annoyed when I had to re-configure them after major updates of linked software changed pathnames ("abc v12\" to "abc v13\") etc., so I really like the dynamic natur of FARR (+ a few static links to a favorites that I can take care of to maintain). So I'm not sure how it'll end - but I'll go & try it out! ;-)

Yeah, but that's still 1 keystroke too much! ;-)

I think I'll go with skajfes' first suggestion :-)

Honestly, I don't see the benefit in that....
I would rather create an autohotkey script that would just launch stuff with a hotkey...

Well, here's some benefit:
  • don't want to install AH. Been there, done that - generally want to limit the # of tools I'm using
  • You are right, that would be two keystrokes to launch the "top favs" on the toolbar. Still that's more convenient than a alt-space and then having to move hand over to the mouse and do a mouseclick, and it is less keystrokes than alt-space and a few keystrokes to find the tool and another one to launch it  8)

this does not work for menu items with an icon
Thanks, but I'm linking to exe's that have an icon, so won't be able to use this trick :(

I've waited with this suggestion for a few weeks, wanting to see if I would still find it valid...and I do :-)

I would find it very useful if it was possible to assign shortcuts to the items on the user-toolbar- would help to make it even more kbd-friendly ;-)
