For handling versioning, you have AJC Backup which is great too.

Interesting to read that there is no real decryption, just the use of backup and other solutions to recover files !

I think there is a real decryption if you pay the ransom. But if you don't pay the ransom, you don't get the encryption key and therefore you can't really decrypt anything. So you have to restore from backups.
Yes, that's what I meant, I like for instance the trick that consists in using Windows System Restore features to recover previous versions of files. Provided SR is activated and running...

Hi,
I onced recovered a damaged .doc (or .docx ?) file that wouldn't open in Word by using a compatible product, Softmaker Office 2012. I was able to recover the text, not the full formating AFAIR.
Maybe this could work again ?

Ashampoo Music Studio here, they giveaway the previous version on a general basis. Works fairly well.

Details seem missing from the story.

I agree.  Details seem a bit sketchy.
He was quick on the draw.

It was only penciled in at the time.

Canvasing the comments has proven quite interesting.

I still wouldn't draw any conclusions from it. I'd wait until we get the complete picture.

I see the fountain of wisdom in that penning.

I think it's time that somebody here took the lead.

Thanks !!! I could have spent a century on this...

Thanks !

Actually it's this one I don't get :
Then there was the cook who came to the doctor with an aching ear.
He looked in her ear, and identified a small piece of potato lodged painfully there.
"My dear," he said to her, "your ear is irritated."

Totally lost there ! Sorry...

Hi, RAR compressed file, emailed home, opened, extracted and saved to C:/.... folder. This was a word 2010 file which I worked on and continuously pressed the save icon to save over a few hours. Closed Word to email file and updated document was not found. Odd but word doesnt show any previous versions or unsaved files.
-joelgrizly009 (July 25, 2015, 07:11 AM)
Try looking for the file name (not the extension) with MasterSeeker that will scan all of your disk, maybe you opened the word file from the rar archive, then it is extracted into to temp folder (erased when you close the .rar) and saved versions are saved in this temp folder, when you exit word Winrar asks if you want to to update the rar file, if you answered cancel or no, changes are lost...
