General Software Discussion / Re: best clipboard program
« on: November 06, 2007, 08:38 AM »
I wouldn't use a program that crashes all the time and loses my work.  There are too many good programs available.

What program is doing this to you?

many programs may crash from time to time, due to problems of the actual program or another program may crash and cause problems

also there might be accidental detele of the text or close of the program

and not all programs have abilities to bring back the text as office suites

lets say you write here a reply with long text and somehow you close the tab of the browser  :wallbash:

anyway, another reason that I would like such program is when I typed or copied some text lets say some hours or days ago and I cant remember it :wallbash:

I hadn't thought about that. So, match Screenshot Captor with RightLoad.

thats nice

can Screenshot Captor creator combine them? or can Screenshot Captor creator implement an upload feature?

thanks

General Software Discussion / optimize download speed
« on: November 05, 2007, 11:04 AM »
hello

I have several applications that are downloading, usenet program, download manager, bittorrent program, browser, etc

what I want is to set download speed limits for each program, but these limits should be dynamic, which means the limit will adjust in specific circumstances

for example, if there is browser activity (there is some downloading from the browser as I browse webpages), the download manager will obey a speed limit
when there is no browser activity, the download manager will download at unlimited speed

is there any program to do this?

thanks

I don't really consider linux distros as "choices"
to me, they are all pretty much the same
most of them are IT students' university projects or some enthusiasts' hobbies

if you mean the main linux distributions (debian, gentoo, etc) I still don't think they aren't different enough to consider them as choices (maybe choices are linux and bsd eventualy)

to sum up, what I consider as choices in linux, are: KDE or Gnome (desktop), pacman or apt (package manager), ext3 or JFS (file system), etc etc

I don't know if you understand me, but linux distros that are the same but they differ in the software and tools that accompanies them, don't seem as choices to me

LFS is a good example for what I am saying
it enables you to choose different components and create your own distro

so, what we really need, is not new distros but new components
we need different ideas in software, not a different combination of existing components

there are some trully new OSes out there (eg SkyOS), now that's what I consider a choice

so when I imagine of a GoogleOS, I definately do NOT imagine it as a linux distro

I imagine GoogleOS to work in a revolutionary filesystem that with decent write/delete/find speeds, innovative features, without the limitations of the current filesystems

I imagine GoogleOS to be much more customizable than winxp, with an integrated OS-level ability to customize it and not with external utilities and scripts (eg autohotkey, strokeit, alternative shell, etc)

I imagine GoogleOS to have a simple and flexible file hierarchy, not as linux hierarchy

I imagine GoogleOS to introduce new file formats and new software algorithms

ofcourse such project seems enormous, but Google is very powerful and it has what it takes to dominate OS field in the future

Try Clipdiary.  It does what you want to do.  And, it's free!

this does NOT monitor typed text
it does NOT save all files in clipboard

this seems to be good
http://www.ardamax.com/akll/

but the problem is that it records even hotkeys I type :(
I wish it could only record the more than 2 characters text

and ofcourse to monitor clipboard as well, so that I wont need to have another software running

mm this thing is for spying...

I don't want it to record mouse clicks and keystrokes (keys like ESC, ALT, etc)

I only want it to record text I type and text I copy (put to clipboard)

General Software Discussion / best clipboard program
« on: November 05, 2007, 04:50 AM »
hello

is there a program that will sit in the tray and will record everything I type? I want this because often I write a big text and then the program where I write it crashes, so I loose all the text

also it would be nice to save all the files I have in my clipboard

are these programs called clipboard managers, or I am wrong? whats the best?

thanks

General Software Discussion / Re: web mail client
« on: November 05, 2007, 04:42 AM »
any update on the subject please ?

pp although nice, it is really slow in development, it will allow us to search in email text and to see bulk emails in many years later

foxmail and dream-mail don't work well for me

I don't think it's sensible to treat in a negative way any attempt to develop an OS
GoogleOS not only should be welcomed, but it should be demanded as well

however I doubt that any other company will easily manage to become as mainstream as Microsoft
Microsoft achieved through disputable practices the ultimate domination in computer world and this cannot be easily done with other than disputable practices (they can do it only if they are genius)

me for myself, I surely need better desktop than XP, better programming languages than C, better file system than NTFS, better compression format than RAR, better OS than takes the 100% out of given hardware, etc

I am sure many of these exist or can be developed, but we need to combine them, to develop them further and then a good manager to promote them

just wanted to say that autohotkey community is much more helpful, skilled and active than autoit community

can't say why this happen, but that's my opinion...

General Software Discussion / Re: instant on-demand translation needed
« on: November 02, 2007, 06:28 AM »
babylon uses 3k memory, wordweb 5k and lingoes 1k

I liked lingoes very much, but I can't manage to make the "cursor translation mode" to work (to trigger translate with a mouse click)

also, I doesn't have all the languages I need and it's not that configurable :(

thanks!

this is very nice, exactly what I was looking for

the only problem is that it's not freeware :( and it seems to consume lots of sys resources

General Software Discussion / instant on-demand translation needed
« on: November 02, 2007, 03:49 AM »
hello

I come accross text in various languages in webpages, text documents, etc

I really want to be able to get an instant translation of a word as I read the text, instead of having to open a translation webpage or program and search there

I was thinking something like to be able to highlight some text and with a keyboard shortcut or a context menu entry to display the translation in a pop up near the highlighted text

has anyone come across such tool?

thanks

General Software Discussion / Re: links collector
« on: October 30, 2007, 08:39 AM »
mmm

URL Snooper is a great program, but not exactly the way to go for this situation, for two reasons:

1) it doesn't integrate within the browser
2) it doesn't autosave files, text, links
3) it sniffs the network, trying to get "hidden" files, while I only need to just see what is seen whithin the browser, nothing more

I was looking for a firefox extension or an opera javascript that will see the text and links of each webpage I visit and it will save specific links/text/files

there is no need to sniff the network in order to catch "hidden" urls etc, it's overkill

the problem is that most of programs that attempt to do what I need (offline browsers, etc) require you to enter a starting web address, then specify retrieval options and then let the program do the job

but what I want is an integrated to the browser solution to do this within my browser "as I browse"

an auto-bookmarker, an auto-file-saver, an auto-text-saver that will save info as I browse the net automaticaly

thanks

1721
that jing is nice, but its too fancy!

1722
WinRAR is plenty fast and stable though... dunno why you want something "more reliable"?

I don't need more reliable, I just wonder if other solutions will be at least as reliable as the company's soltuion that makes rar

I basicaly need something faster and something with more faetures and without some GUI annoyances of winrar

jgpaiva your previous version seemed to work better, can you repost it please

better in terms of speed, sys resources consumption, dual or more core utilization, accuracy in data and error tolerance and error fix
