Well, I don't know Brain
;D

Brain 1.0 is metaphorical. It means: Don't load your computer with various shit and wonder why it slows down. No waste, no need to clean it, you see?

Autoruns and CCleaner don't cover the whole range of tasks
What kind of important task is missing there? Memory optimizing?  ;D

A "rollback" feature is a step into the very wrong direction. If you don't have it, you'll consider twice if you should really perform an action. If you have it, you'll think "oh well let me delete anything and I can still recover it"... which is wrong, because it may be hard to recover something when you can't even log in anymore.

You perfectly got it. Thanks.  :D

It was nice to have a complete toolkit under one roof
You completely ignored my actual posting.  :P
What is the need of a "complete toolkit" when two or three single, free applications are more than enough for everything related to "optimizing"?

(A memory optimizer which resides in the memory is ridiculous at best, BTW.)

Other services are also free and don't tend to personalize their ads.

not sharing data without permission
... except for advertising. Oh, yes, advertising is a noble goal.

This is, of course, no reason to support Google.

Do others spy you in every corner of your life?
(Streetview, Google Earth)

Do others store everything related to you just to enable others to get a full profile of you?

BTW, Google assigns my real name to Tuxman.de just because of my nickname. Sorry, but I dislike its way to find connections.

TuneUp Utilities are made for fixing errors they break themselves.

Seriously, no-one needs that. Autoruns, CCleaner and Brain 1.0 are more than enough. They don't install a bunch of unwanted stuff into your autostart menu, they are tiny, fast and free, and especially Brain 1.0 avoids you from installing weird applications which basically break something you'll need to fix then...

BTW, CCleaner's registry clean-up managed to fix my Windows Explorer once.

The Nightly Tester Tools are not really necessary for that.

about:config - Boolean extensions.checkCompatibility - set to false. No need to use a separate extension for that.

(Disclaimer: Only tested with Firefox.)

Well:

All it would take is a website which works well, is not complex and overcrowded, and an e-mail service that allows significant amount of storage without ads at the bottom of each e-mail and a clean interface to boot.

There is a bunch of them out there (comfortable free mailers and well-working searching engines), that's why I was asking. Which alternatives did you actually check?

It would take me about .5 seconds to decide to never touch google again, if there were comparable services available elsewhere.
What exactly do you miss elsewhere?

Google's "open source model", based on spying innocent people who don't even have a computer (Google Earth, Streetview)? No, srsly...

Not really, I don't even know about all DC apps ...  ;D

Does that help?

Tuxman, I don't understand your reply. Could you elaborate?
Well then:

1) There is no application which is actually "based" on Linux...
Linux is a kernel. It could be hard to even imagine how an application should be based on it.

2) For most apps there already is a great Linux alternative.
Self-explaining.

3) The import command perfectly does everything you can expect from a screenshotting app...
Direct reply to the OP's request (Screenshot Captor). On Linux I take screenshots via import, it allows a wide variety of parameters and is usually a part of your distribution anyway.

(and I have this allergy to curly braces that kind of keeps me away from most other languages  :P)
What about LISP then?  ;D

2369
There is no "open source community".

For me, a real programming language is something you'll get an executable file from. Thus, Java is none either.  :D

Ahem. Delphi certainly does have a framework -- that's what BCL is. I think what you mean is that Delphi doesn't have any kind of virtual machine or abstraction layer in which it runs.
Ah, yes. Sorry, phrasing FAIL.  :)

it's worthwhile noting that it was designed by the lead designer of C#, Anders Hejlsberg.
So what's wrong with that guy now?

javascript lends itself well to dynamic programming techniques that you might expect to need a Python or Ruby for.
None of these are programming languages. There is some structural difference, right?

What bullshit are you referring to?
Like answering "Javascript" when you're asked for your favorite programming language.  :P

I just can't come up with an idea for a worthwhile project to do in Python.
AFAIK you can use it for hacking and stuff. But that's not a good reason, is it?

A lifetime license will pay off indeed. A few Euros for infinite improvement.  :-*

I love it when the first postings in topics about a programming language contain bullshit about scripting languages...

But OK, I'll append mine then:

My favorite programming language is C++.
Java and C# are sluggish, resource hogging nonsense to me, while Delphi (which I actually like because it doesn't need a framework of any kind) is not a part of my knowledge...

Shorties:
My favorite description language is HTML with all needed extensions.
My favorite general scripting language is PHP, because I just don't know Perl and Python...
My favorite application scripting language depends. I know a few of them.

You might want to apologize for calling µTorrent bloated.
No.  :P

However, the choice of a P2P client for a certain network is mostly a matter of personal favors. Mine is different. Is that, at least, OK for everyone?
