GFL is a "free library" according to its website, so I can't see a reason why the GPL should not be applicable here.  :tellme:

OK, that's not fair  >:(Cream is a no-no, but I'm Vim-illiterate  and you want me to create what I assume is a Vim macro?
No, it is not a macro. Also there is a lot of help available.
:help <option>

So: Learning by doing!

:D

Wow, I didn't know Listary devs would be around here.  :D

Great feature indeed. Now if it would also be able to store a "history" or something, it would probably make "Textarea Cache" and ArsClip redundant for me ...
Oh, and Listary's website needs some better hint to that software. Am I blind or is there no link to it?

Grouping files from different folders into "categories" ("catalogues", "tags", whatever) is exactly what libraries do AFAICS.

1755
Cream is bloatware. Make your own .vimrc and you're fine.  :D

1756
No problem. In fact, I wish there could have been more things to write about it, but after all, it is a very tiny software. One tool, one purpose.  :D

1757
"Installable portable" - seems legit.  :D

I'm not sure where I had found it but ST was, at least, discussed on DC as well. :)

No problem!

Basic Info

App NameSageThumbs
App URLhttp://code.google.com/p/sagethumbs/
App Version Reviewed2.0.0.8
Test System SpecsWin7, 2 GHz, 3 GB RAM, some hard disk is also there, yes...
Supported OSesWindows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/7
Support MethodsYou can contact the author in several forums and via bug tracker if something is going wrong. Primarily he seems to use the XnView forums.
Pricing SchemeSageThumbs is FLOSS. Don't care about pricing.

Intro:

SageThumbs is some free software I stumbled upon in xplorer² forums. It adds a couple of image processing functions to Windows Explorer and applications which use its API (like xplorer², FileZilla et al.)

Mainly, these applications get thumbnail support for a few hundred image formats and a new context submenu with a preview and rudimentary editing/converting functions as seen on the screenshots above. Shell columns for extended image information are also added.

Who is this app designed for:

Web designers and random photographers who use Windows might be very interested in this software as they don't need to run a separate gallery software to get a quick glance on which is which. Also, it avoids misclicks when uploading them as FileZilla, for example, does not have a thumbnail function by default. (Or I am just too stupid to find it?)

The Good

Seemless integration into the system environment. No cluttering as everything is only displayed when available and can be turned off separately. Unlike similar software, it is free and being continuously developed. Once you installed it, you can be sure that a week later a couple of updates have been released. - So it is also quite safe to assume that there are no critical bugs left or, if there are, they will be fixed very soon.

Also it is very fast. It does not even have any noticable influence on a folder's loading time. (I must confess that I don't have "large image galleries" in only 1 folder, so I can't test it under heavy conditions.)

The needs improvement section

I, personally, am not a fan of "everything has to have a downside". Just take it.  :P

Why I think you should use this product

It is not a "must-have" but a "nice to have", especially when you work with image files at work or something.

So this is something like Win7's "libraries" as a separate software or what?

I don't use IDEs for web development. I tried to fiddle with Aptana, but my laptop (bought in 2008) is definitely underpowered. It even kicks me out of the internet when I exit the application because of CPU overloading. Stupid Java dumbshit.
(This is actually the most common reason IDEs suck: They're Java software.)

As web development is best done when you have a clue of HTML and ${yourfavoritelanguages}, a good text editor with syntax highlighting and, maybe, good search&replace functionalities (Vim or, let's say, Sublime Text 2) is more than you even need. (At work - some Perl/PHP company - we use TextMate or Sublime Text 2. I, basically, dislike Mac OS X, so TextMate has never been my choice at all.)

"Non-web development" sometimes is better done with IDEs. The only major C++ project I am working on is an eMule mod, which is coded using Visual Studio 2003 (because the official eMule is also not updated to a newer VS yet, so compatibility is questionable). I know some Java guys who use eclipse for their devilish work. They might want to see Netbeans. Seems more stable and fast to me.

Living Room / Re: Intelligence and Internet browsers

Intelligence, while most internet users are declared dumb and patronized?
(An example: Google trying to "know" what the user wants instead of just returning search results, all Google users have different search results for the same query, and so on.)

1762
BTW there is now some browser-independent textarea saver. That said, it still doesn't protect you from crashes, so ...  :D

Delicious is still around? Thought Yahoo canceled it.

1766
Hmm, while the file name defaults to Untitled.pdf, I haven't experienced title loss yet. Maybe I should keep an eye on that.

1767
I've been using Nitro PDF for a while now. Although its UI is bloated and slow, I like it ..  :P

1768
... so that's why Ping is a whole success.

1769
Hmm, is Diaspora cloud-based? I thought they could run independently.

1770
Leaks? Like: Facebook bundled with the known Skype bugware which has a new serious security hole every few weeks?

1771
While we're at 4chan: LulzSec is back ...  :D

That said, the only social network you can trust in is one you administer on your own servers. (Like installing Diaspora or whatever.)

No, basically you just need yourself. Anyway, in the decades before Facebook no one dared to say "I can only have contact with my friends via ..".

Most people in my favorite social network (called "real life") say that they "need Facebook to stay in contact with their real friends. Now I wonder what makes a "real friend" if the whole friendship is only maintained via Facebook or something similar?

When I was young, I did not have the internet, but I had real friends in cities I could not easily reach every day. Wondering how I managed that...

Yeh, if there only was some way to stay in contact with them (like ICQ/AIM/MSN/Y!IM/Jabber/... or e-mail or, hmm, ever heard of a phone or something?) ... sooo glad that we all have Facebook!  :D
