General Software Discussion / mystery throb effect
« on: December 09, 2019, 03:47 AM »
I've recently discovered 4K Video Downloader, which isn't a browser add-on, but it seems a decent and simple downloader app:

https://www.4kdownload.com/
Re: 1hr Delta Binaural Beat Session (0.9hz) ~ Pure
Using Brave browser and 4K Video Downloader set to 480 quality...
If I play direct from Youtube online, I get a nice throbbing effect, as; wooOOOoooOOOoooOOOooo
But if I download it and play it back in VLC, it loses the throb, as; woooooooooooooooooooooo.
What gives?

General Software Discussion / VLC - how mirror flip vid?

Is there a way to flip left and right sides of the video within VLC?

Sometimes on Youtube I can't find any date for when the video was made. Is there actually none posted, or how or where do I find it?

[ Invalid Attachment ]
Yes, that is where the date is supposed to appear, but it does not always do so.

when that particular YouTube item (file) was posted onto YouTube
Sorry, I meant '...when that particular YouTube item (file) was posted onto YouTube.'

Relaxing Sand Castle And ocean waves, with wave sounds 31m 17s
I have enjoyed -and still do- looping the playback and find it to be a great stress reliever both to watch and to just listen and fall asleep to.

Tracks (2013 film) & book of same title by Robyn Davidson.
In 1977, Robyn Davidson treks solo from Alice Springs across 2,700 kilometres (1,700 miles) of Australian deserts to the Indian Ocean with her dog and four camels. National Geographic photographer Rick Smolan documents her journey. The more she seeks to avoid publicity, the more the curiosity seekers try to hunt her down in awestruck admiration.
Before starting, she looks up a camel rancher and does volunteer work as his 'go-fer' in order to learn the ropes. He cheats her, but a second rancher helps her with four camels, including a mother cow and her half-grown calf. When the poor baby collapses due to tender footsies from the hot Australian desert, the ever-resourceful Robyn compassionately fashions stockings for him and gets him back on his feet. "Protect your camels from rogue males," the rancher had warned her, and given her a carbine. Vivid in my memory is the sight of three rogue male camels approaching in the distance, hell-bent on killing her tame males and baby and raping her cow, as Robyn chambers the first slug into her carbine and prepares to do battle.

Looking forward to getting new ideas and meeting new friends, see you around.  :-*

I went to register a product on Panasonic's site.  Had to enter date of birth.  When I got to the year field, accidentally pressed End.  The site's response had a certain lack of making connections about it...

How would I use AVIDemux to process a musical track with Automatic Level Control, or ALC, that is too quiet and then too loud, to even it up?

I would like to find a free video editor to reset the volume more evenly on about a dozen youtube music vids which vary widely in volume and are all under five minutes in length.

You could try AVIDemux, set it to Copy the video component and encode the Audio using the Automatic Gain Mode.
Choose whichever Audio Output format you prefer and the Output Format suitable for the chosen Video/Audio format, (eg. MP4 Muxer or MKV Muxer would be the most likely candidates).

Thank you very much! I found a tutorial on YT and I'm making progress.

General Software Discussion / Paint Shop Pro 7
« on: November 29, 2019, 02:11 AM »
I always 'got along well' with Paint Shop Pro 7, and once I learned its basics, I did wonders with it (IMHO). Now, I 'wonder'; will it work with Windows 10 64-bit?

I would like to find a free video editor to reset the volume more evenly on about a dozen youtube music vids which vary widely in volume and are all under five minutes in length. I have a one year old dual-core laptop with Windows 10 and 8GB of ram but no disk player.

The post title of this thread is the same as an earlier one which was started by siouxdax in 2006 and had its last post in 2007, so I thought I might as well make this a completely new thread.

Restless eggs. (i.e. 'restless legs')

General Software Discussion / Re: mystery annoying popup
« on: November 13, 2019, 04:03 AM »
Okay it has a Brave browser icon and I think it may be associated with a website I recently began visiting.
I've recently begun seeing half-blocked screen notices on that web site, telling me to allow pop-ups, whereupon I reset NoScript to block all scripts there.
Next time it appears, I'll get a screenshot of my Desktop.

Edit: Okay, I pressed logos key + shift + 's' and got a screen shot 'snip'; now I don't know how to save it for uploading.

I have a laptop with Windows 10, and Norton 360, and Malwarebytes. I wish I could tell you more, but all I know so far is that a little box pops up in the lower right corner of Desktop about once a day with what looks like little ads. If I click on it all it does is disappear. I forget now what they all said. As I learn or figure out more, I'll keep you posted here (for whoever is interested). Many thanks.

"To Scale: The Solar System"

I came across this again today from another source and thought "this seems interesting." Then as I got a minute or so into it I thought "I should post about this in the Short Films thread on DC!" And then it started feeling very familiar and I'd realized I'd already seen it. Sure enough, this is where I'd seen it.

Well worth another watch, IMO.

This doesn't quite belong in this thread, as it's more of a "documentary" of a very niche subject. That is, it's about trying to find an Easter egg in a video game.

The Decade-Long Quest For Shadow of the Colossus' Last Secret

It was summarized pretty well in the comments: "When you leave a game unfinished and accidentally start a religion."

Re: ^ & ^^; Alright, this just hit me like a ton of bricks. In the "To Scale: The Solar System" vid, they left out Pluto (I speak collectively of Pluto's multiple worlds).
While reflecting on this, I watched "The Decade-Long Quest For Shadow of the Colossus' Last Secret" vid.
Then it dawned on me; in their attempt to eliminate Pluto and -what- be politically correct?; to be in step with the times?; they've changed little to nothing. I looked for Pluto but could not find it. Yet Pluto is still there. You just have to 'quest' for it.

I give you: PLUTO, THE ULTIMATE EASTER EGG.

The Centipede's Dilemma: https://en.wikipedia...ipede's_Dilemma

A centipede was happy – quite!
    Until a toad in fun
Said, "Pray, which leg moves after which?"
This raised her doubts to such a pitch,
She fell exhausted in the ditch
    Not knowing how to run.

General Software Discussion / Re: no VLC bookmarks
« on: July 29, 2019, 05:10 PM »
Don't know if this is currently relevant, but FWIW, there is this note:

note: loading bookmarks is broken thru version 1.0.5. The last working version I know of was in the 0.8 series.

at:

https://wiki.videola...owTo/Save_bookmarks/

May be someone else is more familiar with the current status?
Thank you. Looks like, if I switch to the earlier version, then bookmarks may work, but that will give an older version with known but unpatched virus vulnerabilities. But at least now I know, and if I need it badly enough, I can always consider the earlier version.

edit: re your ^link, quote;
If you wish to save bookmarks this is how it can be done.
Set up the Bookmark list and then save a Playlist. From now on, anytime you open the playlist, VLC will load the bookmarks.
Open the playlist dialog with menu selection View-Playlist. The playlist window has a menu selection Manage that allows opening and saving playlists.
Opening a saved playlist will also load an associated bookmark list as long as the option "Enable parsing of EXTVLCOPT: options" is enabled. To check this setting choose "Settings -> Preferences -> Input / Codecs -> Demuxers -> Playlist".

For my up-to-date VLC version, the above file tree is slightly different; and when I finally found and clicked on 'Demuxers', there was a large drop-down menu, but the 'Playlist' option was not on it.
My only possible work-around -before shutting down VLC or the laptop- is to write it down.
Or come to think of it, do a screenshot.
