General Software Discussion / Re: Driver backup

Oops! crazy fingers got away from me. As I was trying to say... I wouldn't recommend using ANY drive image software that runs in the OS that you are backing up. Better you should get a program that runs in DOS or Linux to image a Windows installation. Fred Langa recommends (and I agree) Image for DOS by Terabyte Unlimited. It isn't free, but at $20 USD it can't be beat. Images can be made using your DVD or Cd recorder and can be made bootable very easily.

Finished Programs / OT -- PSPAD problem
« on: October 18, 2005, 05:49 PM »
So, what's with this edtor, PSPad? When I unzip and run it, it is all in Russian, even though the PSPad.ini file says it should be English? Searching the home website, even the forum didn't yield any clues.

General Software Discussion / Re: Favorite ZIP/RAR application?

Oops! finger fumble there. Here's what I meant to say...

I have been using Servant Salamander as my preferred file manager for several years now. It has several file compression tools available (PAK, ZIP, RAR, 7zip). It views compressed files as folders and adds or removes files transparently as desired with drag&drop, hotkey, menu or toolbar buttons.

It is similar to Total Commander, which I have tried many times. I find myself back to SS, perhaps because I am now so familiar with it, but it has tools that I cannot find in TC.

Unfinished Requests / Re: IDEA: mouse location launcher

I would be very surprised if you could not do what you want with PowerPro. It is very powerful. Some of the users have already built scripts for maintaining desktops with applications associated and located in desired places. The scripting has evolved past my puny abilites, but there is a very active communty of users who will help you figure out what needs to be done.

It is a bear to to learn, as it has evolved over the years and was not coded from scratch. The originator is active in helping out and troubleshooting. He responds very quickly to feature requests and bug fixes. The stuff some of the 'pros' can do with it just amazes me. If you truly want to become a 'power user' and do some crazy cool stuff, you will not be disappointed.

Thanks, Skrommel! You da man! I will inspect this and see if I can make sense of it. It works great. I was ready to do as suggested above and remap the key. 3 cheers for the snack coder!!

Reading through these posts, I can't help but suggest that PowerPro will do all that and more. Virtual desktop management, program launching by mouse position, hotkey, toolbar or upon window opening. Very powerful utility. Lots of plug-ins. Strong user group for help. It has a scripting language, though not as powerful as AHK it will do a lot of things. It's free, as well.

Unfinished Requests / IDEA: delay F1 key
« on: August 15, 2005, 02:21 PM »
Hi all!
I'm a new member, looking for a little help. I tried modifying that delicious snack called "CapShift.ahk" to my own use. My goal was to make the F1 key less touchy. I am constantly hitting hit when I mean to hit 'esc'. I was wondering if I could get AHK to intercept the hit and wait and see if the key was held down for 2 seconds instead of hit-and-released immediately. I want it to function as a proper F1 key, just not be so quick to throw up a help file if I accidently hit it.

Thanks in advance,
Love the site.
