General Software Discussion / Re: Gigaget
« on: February 11, 2006, 06:57 AM »
EDIT: it seems to be a peer-to-peer as it claims using networked computers, or maybe it's server-peer based - that will speed you up but the details are very unclear on their site, which I find worrying.

Basically, it searches for servers that are hosting the same file and then uses them along with the original server (which speeds up the download).

Here's what I did, I renamed Cmd.exe to cmd.bak and Console.exe to cmd.exe. Then I set the ComSpec environment variable to C:\Windows\System32\cmd.bak. After that, I coped the files the Console.exe requires to C:\Windows\System32.

General Software Discussion / Synaesthesia
« on: October 07, 2005, 10:29 PM »
Description from the website:

Synaesthesia is a program that gives a graphical accompanyment to music. Anyone can make some pretty piece of graphics that flashes in time to the music, Synaesthesia manages a wee bit more sophistication. The screenshots to the right don't really do justice to the display, which writhes in tight synchrony to the music you play.

Synaesthesia's display combines information about the frequency, location and diffuseness of sound. The display is sufficiently detailed to let you distinguish several individual instruments, singers, or special effects on screen by their location, shape and color, and sufficiently fast to distinguish individual drum beats and notes.

Synaesthesia runs under Linux, FreeBSD and Windows.
