Coding Snacks / ConnectFusion Download Accelerator
« on: October 08, 2010, 02:07 PM »
Someone should consider getting its source off of SourceForge and improve on it.

Well, since more than 300 users have joined the service, Its no longer free. At least he's allowing the people that already have an account to still be able to use it for free :).

I would like to have support for sending URLs for it to download via the command-line (where it will show the main window and download the specified url, then close the main window when done downloading and have it stay running in the system tray) and support for Rapidshare, etc. added to it.

Yep. I was thinking that someone who knows how to program could take a look at its source and make it better.

Here's the description of it from its site:

ConnectFusion Download Accelerator is a very fast open source download manager. It will accelerate your downloads from the Internet and resume broken connections. It includes an easy-to-use interface and its installation does not interfere with the normal behavior of your browser. ConnectFusion Download Accelerator is 100% free, never expires, and does not contain any spyware or advertisement. Its source is freely available to any one who wants to inspect or modify it.

Well, you don't have to then. I'll make a post on its forum asking why its free.

Try making an account for the website itself and ask him that question in the forums.

1. Its going at 10-12 Mbps for me when I download a file using a download manager (such as IDM).

2. The admin of the site responded to me when asked about the website on the forum. He wrote that he'll change the template of the site and write some instructions on how to connect to the service.

1. Signing up is the only way to get an account for the VPN server and the forum.
2. The "free 1 Mbps (Megabytes per second)" is the speed that the VPN server goes at. So, if you're connection can normally go to 10-12 mb/s (Megabits per second) then it'll go that fast when connected to the VPN.
3. Its dodgy looking because English isn't the admin's native language.

I have just recently come across a free VPN service called VPN Steel. You may find more info and get an account by going to http://www.vpnsteel.com. There's also a forum for it at http://www.vpnsteel.com/forum/index.php.

General Software Discussion / OpenFlashFire (SSD Accelerator)

Maybe someone could improve it. You can find more info about it by going to http://flashfire.org and can download its source at http://flashfire.org...c.php?f=23&t=317.

Anyone have any experiences to share regarding it? Its been working pretty well for me (except for some lag). You can get more info and a free account (for now, anyways) by going to http://www.iunmetered.com.

A new version of StreamTransport (1.0.2.1700) is now available. You can get it at its homepage (http://www.streamtransport.com).

142
Could someone make please make me an AutoHotKey script that does the following?:

1. Run LaceDefrag ("C:\Program Files\LaceDefrag\LaceDefrag.exe")
2. Press Defrag
3. Wait for it to finish
4. Press OK in the summary window
5. Press Close in the main window

Thanks.

MerleOne: Compress the Vlm files in its store folder and send them to [email protected] so that the defragmentation process could be improved upon.

143
1. The SSD is one of the earlier models that the company (G.SKILL) makes. Alsp, the developer wrote that it doesn't use that many reads/writes to defragment a hard drive, so it won't cause a SSD to wear out as quickly than it would with a normal defragmentation program.

2. Gut Feeling

144
Well, it turned out to be user error that wasn't letting me use the license. I just ran it and it took 15-20 minutes to do a defrag on my 250 GB SSD. It seems that it helped speed up the loading of programs, etc. I'll restart and edit it after its done in case the booting process is faster because of it.

EDIT: It has sped up the boot process by a couple of seconds.

145
Well, I bought it but the license won't apply to either one of the programs. I sent the developer an email though.

146
I'll give my thoughts on it when I am able to buy it.

147
The reason their English isn't that good is because the company that makes the product is located somewhere in Israel. Also, it seems that their programs havn't been updated for 2+ years. Maybe someone could contact [email protected] (its the email address for the developer of them) for more info (such as if a new version was made recently, etc).

148
A new version of it has been recently released. Many bugs have been fixed in it.

149
I have answers to your questions:

1. Yes, it is new.
2. It only detects the urls when going to a site that has them. So, its not like URL Snopper (which detects URLs by sniffing the network packets being received) yet.

General Software Discussion / Re: Autobahn
« on: January 10, 2010, 02:21 PM »
Well, It can be used to accelerate almost any FLV video found on the internet (as long as the FLV is being served via the HTTP protocol). Also, I've noticed Autobahn taking up less than 10% Processor Usage and 19-22 MBs of RAM.
