Post New Requests Here / IDEA - Visualizing time left vs. time needed

I have no programming experience myself, so I have no idea if this is really a "quick and easy" program to make or not.  Please forgive me if it really shouldn't have been posted here.

Here's what I need...something to help me fight the IGAD syndrome (You know IGAD..."I've got all day.")

I'm picturing a "live action" visual representation with two elements:  The time I have left (specified by me) and the time I have estimated I need for my tasks.  So in other words, I'd like to be able to tell it that, between 6am and 4pm, I have to do an estimated 5 hours' worth of chores.  I'd love to be able to see at a glance how much my "time bank" is being depleted, and how many hours/minutes of work I still have to fit into that remaining time.

It would need to be easily editable, so that when I complete a chore I'd allotted 15 minutes for, I can go delete 15 minutes from my estimated remaining chore time for the day.  Does that make sense?

Also, it would be great to be able to run multiple instances of this program, so I can track different time periods with their own allotted tasks.

Of course this is all moot if somebody has already made a cool freeware program that does this...

What's the Best? / Best PC User Time Controller?

Please bear with the length of this question.  I just think that I need to explain my situation clearly so that people will understand exactly what I'm hoping to find.

I have three children, two of whom have autism-spectrum disorders and ADD.  They love their computer time, and would spend all day with their noses in the monitor if I would let them.

We have determined to limit them to 2 hours per day during the Summer months.  But they keep "losing track of the time," or "not hearing the timer go off," or "forgetting to set the timer," etc.  We tried using Stickies (www.zhornsoftware.co.uk) and setting them to pop up on the screen when their time was over, but on certain graphics-intensive games, the sticky won't come to the front. 

Since all three boys like to divide their two hours into 4 half-hour chunks, you can appreciate that it's difficult for me to keep on top of it all.

I'm really hoping to find a program that can do the following:

-Require each boy to enter his own password to access the computer
-Allow parents to set how much time each password can access the computer per day
-When time is up, divert the child to some sort of screen, which is all they will see for the rest of the day
-Automatically reset the timer every day for each child
-Allow the child to "log off" to stop his timer whenever he leaves the computer
-Auto logoff for that password if unused for a set period (for when the child forgets to log off)

Does anyone know of any program that can meet that need?

Neither option listed in earlier posts worked for me.  Webmaster tools wouldn't work because I couldn't prove that I'm the owner of freewebs.com (which of course I'm NOT). 

BUT...just today Snapfiles.com announced a new piece of software called BackLinks Master http://www.snapfiles...backlinksmaster.html which does the job wonderfully. 

Just thought everyone might like to know about it.

Did Barnacle work at all?

My Windows is Norwegian, AutoHotkey is English, where does the German come from?

Could I convince you to start XP in Safe Mode? (Start your computer and press F8 every second until a menu appears, choose Safe Mose) Does Barnacle work now?

As I said, I had to remove Barnacle in order to stop the error window from constantly popping up.  I had downloaded Barnacle and was getting ready to move it to the programfiles like the instructions told me to, but I never got the chance.  That's when the window started appearing.

Not German anything as far as I know.  I have no idea why this German message popped up.  It began when I installed Barnacle, and continued popping up every couple of seconds until I deleted Barnacle.  Very strange.

I just downloaded Barnacle, and an error window of some kind keeps popping up.  The message is in German, so I can't read it.  It says "Fehler beim Erstellen des Fenster-Geratekontexts".  Can anyone advise me?

I'd like to ask for some recommendations for programs that can be used to make screensavers from your images..
(I want to make some screensavers from nudone's cody pics)

Requirements:

• It doesnt have to be free, but it cant be over $30 or so.
• It must support multiple monitors
• It must be capable of building a nice installer that can be shared with others.

I'm a but uncertain of what you mean, but I've made GoneIn60s close, not kill a program, to have it ask whether to save any unsaved work. It might be that this is happening.

I could make an option to kill a window instead of closing it...
I've also thought of making it so that rightclicking the X-button kills a program.

No, I must not have explained it clearly.  Let's say I finished using Program A, so I closed it and had no intention of reopening it.  I went on about my business, but a while later Program A popped up all by itself, re-opened by "Gone in 60 Seconds."  I frowned and closed it, and in a little while it popped up again, re-opened by "Gone in 60 seconds."  This went on endlessly until I uninstalled "Gone in 60 seconds."  That's the problem I was referring to.

I tried "Gone in 60 seconds" a couple of months ago, and I ended up uninstalling it.  It brought everything back without me asking it to.  If I closed the program again, it would reopen it in 60 seconds again, and again, and again...
I would love to use this program, but not until I can prevent that glitch from happening.  Any suggestions?

I'm wondering if Launchbar Commander is what I'm looking for.  What I'm hoping to find is something that will take the place of all of the other items on the taskbar and organize those things for easy launching.  Have I come to the right place?

Thanks to all who answered.
It seems the problem only occurs when accessing the web pages which showcase all of the Google Gadgets. 

I have been surprised that it doesn't index folders by themselves so, for example, I can't just ask for the folder "Photos 2006".  However, if I type in "Photos 2006" it will find everything in that folder, and each entry offers the option of opening the folder.  Kind of indirect, but I can live with that.  Overall it seems like a pretty cool plaything.

HELP!
Out of curiosity I decided to download Google Desktop.  Can someone tell me if they've had compatability issues with it and Firefox?  I have this weird effect where pages are flashing off and on 20 times or more before they load.  It's driving me nuts!

Can anyone tell me how Google Desktop differs from F&RR?  I use the latter and like it very much.

AHA!  Here's what finally worked.
In Firefox, click Tools>Options>Dowloads>View&Edit Actions, hilight PDF and click Change.

Now I can go to bed.  Gee, do you think?  It's only 12:45 a.m.!

Thanks.  I downloaded the extension, restarted Firefox, went to the extension options and told it to use Foxit to open PDF's.  Adobe still opens them.  I may have to uninstall Adobe after all.

i think you ought to uninstall Adobe after all... man, these guys are fast becoming the MSIE of online documents... one can't even make a simple switch of pdf readers.

what browser do you use? if you're using Firefox, try this extension: PDF Download

btw, if you don't need Adobe Reader then try uninstalling it and see if that solves your problem...

I guess I didn't explain my problem very clearly.  I have checked the "Make Foxit the default" option in the Foxit help menu, but Adobe is still coming up when I try to open PDF files.  What could I have done wrong?

try to uncheck this option in Adobe: "Display PDF in Browser". then your browser will prompt you to open or d/l the pdf, you can choose 'Open' to view the file.

Click HELP on the file menu, and you'll see it right away.

So which one is the "install" version?  It's probably obvious, but I'm not real savvy.

I have Adobe Professional, but it almost always locks up when trying to read PDF's online, so I'm definitely going to give Foxit a try.

btw, i observed something about the downloads at foxit's homepage. there are two versions of the download:

one is the no-install version which isn't updated regularly while the other is an installer version which is updated frequently as seen on filehippo's foxit page.

Never mind...it finally downloaded, but it took several minutes.

The link was misspelled...it's alfaclock, not aflaclock.  But once I found the right site, I was still not able to download the program.  The link took me to C-Net, but every time I tried to download I got nothing.  Anybody else having a problem with this?

It does claim to be free and unlimited.

I don't think Alfaclock has a free version...it "expires" after a certain amount of time and you can't open it after that.

"Alfaclock Free" v1.90 is promoted at www.aflaclock.com as "freeware", and I have seen no indication since installing it that it is going to expire.  I really like it.  It is reminiscent of tclock, but is more polished, and is designed for XP.  I have not tried the same author's "Betaclock", formerly "Alfaclock 2"; it may have different licensing terms.

My systray is overflowing with icons.  Can anyone recommend or create a program that will organize everything in my systray into a pop-up window or something?  I get really frustrated clicking the little <<symbol to reveal the rest of the tray, only to have it open and close crazily before I can find and click on the icon I want.
Maybe all I really need is something to make my systray open and STAY OPEN when I click the <<symbol, and not re-close until I click the <<symbol again.
Can anybody help?
