General Software Discussion / Re: Lastpass hacked proper

I've never trusted password managers, but I've started using KeePass. It has no requirement to sync to the cloud, so I don't.

Been using Keepass for years, it syncs to iDrive Cloud Drive, (mainly as a backup but also so I have access to the database file via browser/app if needed), and via OneDrive sync plugin which the Android app uses as the database, (syncing any local changes back to it which then propagate to computers).

Awesome.  Are all those photos ones you took?

Yes, just on the phone.

Still in Budapest until Monday.

Probably one step better would be via USB into the external DAC, to avoid using the phone's analogue converter.

A lot of phones have a pretty good DAC, some of the LG's, (V10 - V40, G5, G6, etc), made the DAC they used a selling point.

I'd try it before investing any money.

Load your music onto a uSD card, plug it into an old smart phone, (or buy a cheap new one).
Install a music player app of you choice.
Connect phone to HiFi AUX input via 3.5mm - RCA cable.

Or 3.5mm - 3.5mm cable for external powered speakers, soundbar, etc if they don't have RCA input.

General Software Discussion / Re: Contra Chrome
« on: August 25, 2022, 02:12 PM »
Some of my banks require chrome to display online statements which is really unfortunate.

Chrome or Chrome-based ?

I don't have Chrome installed on my computers and I've yet to find a website that Iridium won't handle that would necessitate installing Chrome, Chromium, etc.

Normally I use Firefox and fall back to Iridium for the odd incompatible site, wife only uses Iridium and no screaming has been heard regarding sites that won't load.

DOH!   :-[

Although it's not quite "touch screen aware".
While it brings up a drop down menu, it only hangs around for less than half a second and then proceeds to load the "Go To..." web page if you don't select something within that time.

ie. The drop down menu should hang around until you either select something or tap somewhere else to close it.

The My Messages drop down menu has the same problem on touch screens.

69
No, normal site but it looks like it's connected with the device orientation, ie. detected screen width.

Tablet in portrait mode it doesn't show up, (1200px), but in landscape it does, (1920px).
Same with the phone, 1080x2400px.

Never noticed it because I rarely go to landscape mode due to if I ever have to type anything 85% of the display gets obliterated by the keyboard so I find myself scrolling up/down in the remaining 15% to see what I'm referring to, add markdown, etc, etc.

Be nice if you could customise what's in the top header box in some way, ie. I don't really need the Profile, Search, Go To... links.

I'll change the topic subject.

Btw, what is the screen width at which point it starts removing objects if someone knows?

70
Since I usually seem to check DC via either a tablet or phone these days I really miss the Unread topics: New link that the desktop site has.

Is there any chance of it being added please?

Hopefully with an attendant: Mark all topics read

Living Room / Re: Random M.2 SSD Disconnects
« on: July 11, 2022, 01:32 AM »
Sounds like it's thermally unstable.

Fwiw, I have the following NVMe M.2 drives in different computers and never had a problem:

Corsair P1 500GB
Kingston A2000 500GB (2 of)
Samsung PM981 256GB (OEM early version of the 980)
Timetec 1TB (I think these are SK Hynix own brand)

72
I am on a dual boot. After inserting the Quantum Zero USB 3.0 in the PCI slot the Win xp wont boot to desktop.

Are you sure you're using the right terminology?

Unless there's another QZ USB 3.0 internal card, the only QZ USB 3.0 card I find is PCIe.

It won't work in a PCI slot and would most likely stop the computer booting ... and might even damage the card.

Your motherboard has a PCIe x1 and PCIe x16 slot, it should be plugged into one of them.

Hi, is Metro Exodus still available?

PM sent

C# isn't a scripting language.

I'd go with anything that's cross-platform, eg. PowerShell, Python, etc.

Overhead cables depending from the ceiling; the only drawback upside being the risk of inadvertent strangulation.
