Screenshot Captor / Re: Screenshot Captor from Visual Basic?
« on: September 03, 2019, 01:08 PM »
But you might also check out the littler brother of Screenshot Captor called MiniCap, which is a smaller commandline tool designed to be invoked from other programs:

You suggested MiniCap before, wouldn't that be a quicker start&capture than the full ScreenshotCaptor executable?

What do you have in place for your current website (OS, webserver/software, database) ?

I'm under the impression that this anti-spam measure is really working as intended

I just hope the extra administrative load isn't too much of a burden for boardadmins... ;)

Screenshot Captor / Re: Standalone screenshot window
« on: August 19, 2019, 02:28 PM »
Wouldn't it be much easier to use the hotkey for grabbing the active Window? Because that's what it sounds to me what you want to achieve...

255
Other forums have this as a standard feature that only needs to be enabled, or as a plugin. I can only assume SMF has this too. (my main experience is with phpbb though...)

I'm all in favor of this plan (I've reported quite a number of (possible) spammers the last couple of months, often several (3-4) hours after they posted ), and I have the impression the automated spamfilters haven't been as effective as before :o

Well, you might want to check the Preferences page 'Post Capture Options' to have the Copy to clipboard option set to 'Image bitmap' (not sure what the default is, I set it longtime ago)

(Other settings are probably changed by me too, so don't take them as advice :))

Do users on all computers login using a domain account or only you from your computer?

Is there possibly a wifi-repeater active, still re-publishing the now no longer available SSID?

A tiny bit of googling brought me these links:

Living Room / Re: Windows 7 always slow after idle
« on: June 13, 2019, 01:26 AM »
Did you install Windows 7 anew, or updated the existing installation from your previous hardware setup? That situation is known to sometimes (often?) cause undetermined trouble because of unneeded hardware drivers clashing with useful drivers.

Besides that, the symptoms are not those of a virus.
Apologies, that's not what I was suggesting.
Most current AV systems are more like heavy duty system-intruders, resulting in unpredictable slowdowns, irregular fan-spinups, cause occasional high disk-activity, and stuff like that, including the symptoms you are describing. The Microsoft offerings with Windows 7 and 10 seem to be the most performance-friendly incarnations in AV-land.

All (hardware-)drivers are up to date (no beta stuff etc.), I presume? (You didn't answer that... :-\)

What AV are you using?
Are all drivers up to date (preferrably WHQL revisions)?

264
Have you tried the Region Capture feature (Grab selected Region, <Shft-PrtScr> hotkey by default) ?, that magnifies a region around the cursor for exact capturing.

OT: It is so darn useful I often use it to measure (pixel) misalignment between controls in applications I work on :-[

Screenshot Captor / Re: Capture moves window to other monitor
« on: May 27, 2019, 01:27 AM »
I push printscreen and when I go to select the area, the crosshairs and the full-size image moves to the next monitor.
Is it possible that you have another program grabbing the PrtScr hotkey, pulling the focus to another monitor and thus messing up the SSC workflow?

266
Are you actually asking about a phone-screen, pc-screen or screens in general?

267
It would be a standalone app -- I wonder if someone would consider making such a coding snack..
Well, AFAICS that's already done quite alright in the fine SysInternals utility ZoomIt

You have removed any read/only attributes from your files?

General Software Discussion / Re: Screen change detector
« on: March 29, 2019, 06:14 AM »
I have come to the conclusion that what I want I can't get. :(
But you can go to a thrift shop or computer fair to buy a cheap second-hand secondary monitor for your computer, so the alternatives mentioned can be had for a small budget.

that will monitor a specific window even when it is not in focus and I have another window open.
It is not guaranteed that the window content is updated if another window is (partially) covering it, so that might be quite a challenge... and maybe a little less if you can place that window visible and uncovered. And then there is a chance that the application detects it doesn't have focus and lowers/ceases the screen update frequency.

Copenhagen interpretation of travel: Is someone out there in no specific location until you see them again?

^ you really lost me there
that lost me as a native speaker too... might be to do with some 'Copenhagen' scientific theory or something (?)
I was kinda thinking of the Stockholm syndrome, but that might just be me... :-[

Have you tried ProcessTamer?
The first SuperUser answer in this question suggests that... ;D ;D ;D

General Software Discussion / Re: UTP cable pin-outs confusion
« on: March 03, 2019, 01:05 PM »
Hm, intriquing question. Like you I've mostly made utp cables (and coax before that) myself. I'd declare it nearly impossible for the pinout to change from cat5 to cat6 to cat7, as the cables are backward compatible. And I've not found any evidence for changes in pinout, so far.

Having said that, I have a few possible causes for your 'color confusion':
  • The cables are possibly made by unexperienced/uninterested people, and they just 'made it work' by creating a 1:1 connection, regardless of wire pairs (simple wiretest equipment can't detect pairing, only correct connections)
  • The wires have a non-color-related pairing (highly unlikely though), you'd have to cut open a cable to verify

When aiming for cat6/cat7 speeds, I'd verify that the cables are pair-connected as required (and ideally shielded as well) to avoid hard to debug networking issues. The shielding requirements for cat6/cat7 make it quite hard to make these yourself, unless you have access to the professional tools for crimping that type of cable.

275
I'll start with a question: Who's problem are you solving here?

And a proposed design of how to avoid this:
  • The application should provide a configurable base-path to a file-upload directory.
  • When uploading a file it should be given a unique name as it is stored in a (nested) directory structure from the base-path (I think it should not be stored as a blob in the database). The directories should be nested to avoid thousands of files in a single directory.
  • The database should store this path and filename, relative from the base-path, so for retrieval they can be appended and downloaded.
  • The database should store the name/title of the file, initially set to the original filename, without any path information, and probably also include date/time and size info. The extension of the file should remain as initially uploaded.
