Post New Requests Here / Re: change cursor appearance
« on: September 27, 2007, 09:41 AM »
kalos, how about this, (in Win XP) Go to Control Panel, Mouse, Pointers tab.  Then in the lower "customize" list and find "Text Select" and highlight it.

Then click on "Browse..." near the bottom and find an alternate .cur file.  Perhaps "cross.cur" or one that fits what you are doing.  Try experimenting with a few of the ones there.

If you don't find a cur file you like I could make you one.  (You could also check out my cursors I've made and posted at https://www.donation...76.msg69766#msg69766 )

Is something like what JennyB, is describing possible with GridMove?  :huh:

I like the auto tile that jgpaiva came up with because it doesn't use anything extra to make it work, just the internal Microsoft Windows tiling mechanism.  'course you have to live with the rules that they've set up, i.e. when you Tile Vertical, it starts tiling horizontal when there are more than three windows.  If you don't like that aspect, then, yeah maybe something else would fit the bill.

sri, http://lifehacker.co...y-windows-255055.php

justice, I'd like to try out the revised script.  you're saying it only rearranges when you press the alt key... is this "global" to all windows?

Wow, ya know I'm STILL using this and Love it!  :D

Should someone (I dunno, maybe me?) move this to the "Finished" forum?

got any more skateboard ones?

I can imagine a whole skateboard cursor set, doing different tricks for different "cursor" things!

 ;D
Yeah, typically I use a non-animated one (.cur) as the normal cursor.  A couple sets are "all-animated" so they are exceptions to the rule and sometimes I use em.

I've tried to make it so you could tell where the "point" of the pointer is on most of em, but I see that switching to a left facing cursor, might throw you for a loop.  Did I get you dizzy? :D

But about the semi-transparent ones, yeah I use em all the time, even for my normal cursor.

Howdy All, as per the Help Forum I'm here posting my Windows Cursors for all to try.  I have an affinity for transparent stuff on the UI so you'll see that I use a lot of that here, (I know it's hard to tell that from the previews below.)

Feedback would be great.

The PNG's are previews of what's in the zip.

Thanks again jgpaiva for the help with AutoTile!

Enjoy

34
Oh, I guess I should clarify, I was thinking of sharing .ani, .ico files dunno if that would be a problem.  Normally web browsers don't support these formats as viewable.

35
Howdy,

I've become quite fond of DC and I enjoy creating themes cursors etc and was wondering if there was a place I could share them here at DC?

Maybe DC is only a place for coding? not for sharing graphics, art, etc, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Lemme know.

jgpaiva,

Right, but perhaps you could not "invoke" the javascript from the ahk if... the height was less than 200px.  Maybe?

I see what you're saying about it being tiled the next time, that would be okay because usually I've already clicked on the "yes/no" or "ok/cancel" from the pop-up by then anyway. ya know?

Thanks again for exploring this with me! :)

(Also, I'm just getting a feeling for things, has this gone beyond the "snack" stage?)

Joy! I'm lovin' it!  :Thmbsup:

(As a side note prior to trying this I was using the lifehack SweptAway program and just for kicks I didn't turn it off when testing this and.... I like the results.  Things stay tiled but when you stop using one  of the tiled windows it Auto-Un-Tiles it! WOW!  So if I stay in one program for a long time, eventually it is maximized! So nice.)

My only comments are 1) that sometimes the windows switch positions, but now I see that you are using the built in Windows tiling there's not much you can do about that.  8)

and 2) would there be a way to not tile when a tiny pop-up window comes up?  Maybe you could tell me how to tweak the ahk to not do it when the window height is below... 200px?

I really like how the save, open, windows dialogs are tiled too!  In the past I was always changing their size and now they are perfect.

Thanks again for this! Any ideas about #2?

I extracted all three files into their own folder and it worked.

What does the js file do anyway?

Wow! it's BEEWTEEFULLLL!  :-*

Lemme try it for a day or so and I'll give you some feedback on it, sound like a plan?

Thanks again, I'm excited to try this!

Two things wrong with the Task bar Context menu tiling.

There's only vertical and horizontal options, and you'd have to manually do it (two clicks) after each time you open a new window.  That's the "auto" part :)

Yeah, maybe this is a feature request for GridMove,... like "Auto-Fill grid positions with newly opened windows"?,
but what about increasing the number of positions to handle the number of open windows?  Is that still within the scope of Gridmove?

How about an app that would run in the systray and each time a window would open it would Auto-Tile, (auto fit) the new window with all of the currently open windows.  So with each new opened window all of the other windows are still visible, but smaller of course, and re-tiled so that they all fit the screen.

Probably the snarkiest part would be to decide which method to tile, ... here's a suggested tile-method order:

1 window =>  1x1 ( ;) maximized)
2 windows => 2x1 (two tiled windows across)
3 windows => 2x2 (one blank tile)
4 windows => 2x2
5 windows => 3x2 (one blank tile)
6 windows => 3x2
7 windows => 4x2 (widescreen monitors!, one blank tile)
8 windows => 4x2
9 windows =>  what??? you really have 9 windows open at once!!!  :huh:

I'd imagine the blank tile would just show the desktop below.

Good idea? Easy?

I've used these two programs to select inverted color palettes for my PC.  (I've been tweaking the colors & reducing the white-paper glare on my pc for years)

*** Jasmin 3D Color Changer (free? still?), Have to switch to Win 2000 display theme to make it work, but it allows to you TOTALLY customize the colors,  let me know if you want some of mine that I've tweaked over the years!

*** WindowBlinds ($20 for license), not only lets you keep snazzy UI elements, but also lets you Invert the themes, ("negative" them.) at any time.

Both of these programs affect the entire windows user interface.  I also specify text color and background color overrides in firefox, really easy.

Let me know if that helps.

Does it help anyone to know that my system drive is the letter "G:\"?  I have a startup cmd that uses SUBST C: for G: and that works fine.  Anyone heard of non-default letters for drives causing problems?

Thanks

I get the error when the wizard comes up saying "Preparing Setup" before I can click on anything.

Here's the full error:

Error Code:   -5004 : 0x80070005
Error Information:
>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (3093)
PAPP:ConceptDraw VI Standard
PVENDOR:Computer Systems Odessa corp. (www.conceptdraw.com)
PGUID:63910E59-C5D4-4596-A8D0-B9E3F26A3CD0
$11.50.0.42618PAK
@Windows XP Service Pack 2 (2600) IE 7.0.6000.16441

I clicked on "Report" and it took me to a Installshield web page to submit the bug.

It's too bad, because I really was looking for this sort of tool!  :-\

46
Does anyone else get this error when they try to install it?

Error Code:   -5004 : 0x80070005
Error Information:
>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (3093)
PAPP:ConceptDraw VI Standard

I did run the Activate.exe first and it said it was okay.

Thanks!

47
My personal decision, Wait until SP1, and run WindowBlinds (paid the measly $20) on my Win XP to get bee-ewe-tiful next-gen User interface! :D

Does anyone think that the smoothing might be related to an Active Desktop setting?  Just an idea

BTW I love minimalist art! this is a sweet discovery! :Thmbsup:

Thanks for the info.  Our administrators are professors, PhDs, etc.  So they thought that there might be a set of standards to comply to... like a  "biblography" in a thesis.

Maybe there should be! Should I contact ACM about it? :huh:

Hi!, (I hope I posted this is the right forum!)

Can anyone refer me to some industry standards for what goes in the "Credits pages" for off the shelf software?  Who should be listed?  Who should not? (in-house alphatesters?,etc)  Are there standards for formatting, font... i.e. "AP" standards?

Thanks
