Like to hear that. Good news indeed. Thank you.

LaunchBar Commander / Switch to app if already running
« on: October 28, 2014, 02:26 AM »
Enabling the checkbox "Switch to this application if it is already running" produces mixed results. It works for some programs, but not for all. Not even if the application itself offers settings that force it to one instance only. Examples are FreeCommander or XYplorer. Launchbar will open a new instance always, irrespective of any settings within launchbar or the application itself.

I should mention that it seems to apply to portably run applications only, and that I call them with relative paths
..\FreeCommanderPortable\FreeCommander.exe

Not sure if anything can be done about it, maybe the fault lies with those applications. Just wondering if there might be workarounds?

Is there a way to auto-open the last used checkbook file?
And to make the path to that file relative/ portable?

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Linking to .msc console
« on: October 20, 2014, 06:18 AM »
Thanks dluby,
Have not tried my portable LBC on a Win XP yet. But I guess it probably works nicely there, just as it does for you. Flexibility to cover different OS is exactly my reason for not hard-coding the path to SysWOW64, where the eventviewer and other .msc reside on Win7_x64.

I cannot get "control userpasswords2" to work, either. For a moment the black cmd box flickers across the screen but nothing else happens. However, triggering "control mouse | keyboard | printers | fonts etc" works fine. So does control appwhiz.cpl and control desk.cpl,,5 and many other control ***.cpl calls.

To sum up, I cannot use any *.msc calls but most (though not all) of the control *** calls, with or without a trailing .cpl.
Needless to say, everything - including control userpasswords2 and eventvwr.msc etc  - works fine when entering the same lines into Win+R run dialog.

Great. Thanks.  :Thmbsup:

Hotkey - Toggle Dock instead of popup menu (but don't toggle on mouse at screen edge)
Or the other way round: horizontal menu that auto-hides like a dock - this would achieve the same end

LaunchBar Commander / Auto-Hide without Docking
« on: October 19, 2014, 01:40 AM »
One thing I have not figured out yet: How do I get a horizontal launchbar that auto-hides after launching a program or folder from it?

What I'd like to do: Have a horizontal bar positioned at the top of the screen like a dropdown menu, but NOT pop up when the mouse touches the edge. Some of my programs (like ScreenshotCaptor) show important menus on the same auto-hide basis. I don't want Launchbar to cover up these other toolbars when I reach the screen edge.

Thanks dluby,
what OS are you on? And how do you call the eventviewer?

BTW, it's not just msc files. Launching stikynot via WIN+R pops up a note nicely,  but entering a command link "stikynot" or "stikynot.exe" into Launchbar will cause an error.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Linking to .msc console
« on: October 17, 2014, 09:30 AM »
Thanks for the speedy reply. Take your time, no hurry.
I noticed it will work if I hard-code the full path into it. Seems like System32 gets redirected on my machine to SysWOW64. But to be portable for other machines it were nice if you could get it to work more flexibly.

In other respects your launchbar is superior to my current launcher. I especially like the virtual links to existing nodes, the multiple docks, the visual options for spacing the main buttons apart, having headings inside submenus .…   amazing   :Thmbsup: :)

LaunchBar Commander / Linking to .msc console
« on: October 17, 2014, 08:08 AM »
How do I link to Microsoft's Management console?
Simply entering "services.msc" or "Eventvwr.msc" etc does not work.
I tried to emulate pressing WIN+R, then Eventvwr.msc - but that won't do the trick, either. The SendKeys feature does not seem to support the WIN-modifier key.  :tellme:

Great tool, btw.  :Thmbsup: Just came upon this and now I am trying to replace my current launcher.

Screenshot Captor / Re: SUGGESTION: Bezier curves
« on: October 15, 2014, 01:46 AM »
This extra feature would  make captures look more professional and would be appreciated. (at least by me)
Screenshot captor is an excellent application!  :Thmbsup:
Thanks for creating and maintaining it so well,
I fully agree. SC surpasses the rest in terms of file handling and scrolling captures.

Professional apperance: If Bezier curves are out of the way, maybe the following could be implemented:
Combining arrows and lines in such a way that makes their end points interlock to form a new object that remains sizable at the joints.

My present workaround to avoid criss-crossing all over the image consists in combining arrows. But I have to start over each time. It's tedious work to keep a consistent look, and the copy and paste behavior doesn't make this easier. After you Shift-select a 3-component "custom arrow" and copy it, SC will deconstruct your edifice upon pasting, and you end up with 3 seperate parts that need to get aligned again.

Talking professional appearance: The paintbrush would make a nice highlighter pen if we could restrict it to straight lines by holding down Ctrl.

I am embarrassed to admit that once again, I am unable to locate the download for the latest beta.
The link you gave me last time still points to the older version.
Where do I find the beta-downloads anyway?

I will add a hotkey to toggle in and out of object selection mode.

Is there a possibility this could also be available through a right-click context menu?
Been wondering at times why there is no context menu at all. If this has to do with right-mouse panning, maybe this could be altered to reflect the way how panning works in most image software: Holding down Space and dragging.

This kind of temporary mode could also be made available for the object selection mode: Holding down Ctrl to select objects (like in Photoshop etc). The mouse pointer, however, should make this obvious. BTW, I wouldn't mind if the mouse pointer were different in object selection in general, showing an arrow to distinguish it from drawing mode.

Granted, I have become very conditioned by other software. Certain behaviors are getting reinforced continuously. Like pressing the right mouse button for a context menu to copy and paste etc, mouse-wheeling to zoom .... apropos, here comes my last BTW in this post: An option to reverse the wheel-zoom. It works the other way round in my other programs: Rolling towards the screen gets closer, zooms in, you're approaching the image - rolling backwards/ away from the screen makes the image smaller, zooms out.

Much better. I also enabled the main menu option, quick access, no dangling through fly-outs necessary. And I like your idea of saving the whole set if no specific object is active.  :Thmbsup:

It were nice to click and start drawing right away. This would also make it easier to find your way among the very tiny buttons, because you simply replicate your favorites with descriptive names in your user drop-down. Upon selecting, the corresponding object button will highlight and offer its settings.

Ideally, drawing right away would allow triggering objects that are not on the toolbar. To remove buttons you never tweak, being fine with the presets you have set up for them. Such a reduced toolbar also makes navigating the remaining buttons easier, without compromising your objects available - just get them from their descriptive name in the user dropdown.

It would help to access object selection mode with a key shortcut (Esc or Space or whatever). It's distracting to travel to the outer edge, aiming for the right button, then back again to the center of the screen, to resume where you left off. Alternatively, Ctrl D (deselect) could always snap back to object selection mode. Or a right-click menu that brings up the selection modes at the mouse pointer. Yet another way to de-clutter the toolbar.

I really like the direction this whole preset-improvement has taken. Achieving a consistent look across similar objects has become a lot easier. Warrants a new major version number, imo.

Sounds good. Want to try it on a real project, but cannot find the correct download. Would you please point me to the link for the latest beta?

Well, it's not quite what I was hoping for. No objections to saving the whole set, but to speed up workflows, such an ini-file would look more like this:

CustomTool_1
Caption="Red Arrow thick"
LineColor=#EA1C1C
LineWidth=8
CustomTool_2
Caption="Yellow Arrow thin
LineColor=#FFFF00
LineWidth=1
CustomTool_3
Caption="-----"
CustomTool_4
Caption="Textbox big"
FontSize=80

This would constitute its own user dropdown menu. CustomTool_3 is a separator with no other function than organizing the presets in the dropdown. The important thing to notice: You can have multiple presets for the same object (red arrow AND yellow arrow) within one ini-configuration.

You'd simply pick your "Red Arrow thick" and start drawing. Without having to worry what other (unwanted) object changes this change entails. Because it won't change any of the other objects. The next textbox will NOT come up with a totally weird and out-sized font just because you happened to need it one time only, unfortunately in that same session when you stored your arrow as a preset.

Your remedy to avoid this - manual tweaking of the ini-file - may be a tall order for some users, especially if English is not their native language. Non-progammers are not very comfortable with finding and deleting specific lines in ini-files.

Maybe I missed something and you had other advantages in mind that I fail to see? My expectations are primed by other software, which led to a certain workflow over the years. Always ready to ditch the old ways, so if you found a more efficient workflow, please explain.

it would be interesting to see what other people use and why.
My main adjunct to SC:
http://blog.bahraniapps.com/gifcam/
It replaced the tool I used before: http://screentogif.codeplex.com/

Pick Color: http://www.martinstoeckli.ch/colorbug/
Pick Font: http://www.softwareo...=Freeware/FontViewOK

Fast image viewers
http://www.bandisoft.com/honeyview/en/  - to sort/copy pics quickly into two custom collection folders
http://www.vieas.com...software/unifie.html - dual pane viewer that I use to browse zip-files without unpacking them first
http://sourceforge.n...t/projects/jpegview/  - also good for quick images fixes, adjusting contrast + colors, rotating, cropping ...
The ini-file is the key to working this program, explanations are in the ini-file itself.

To edit ini-files, xml, html, css:
http://www.uvviewsoft.com/synwrite/
It combines the best features of PsPad and SublimeText, highly configurable

Renamer:
http://www.joejoesoft.com/vcms/108/ - powerful and yet relatively easy imo, thanks to placeholder variables you can use in lieu of RegEx expressions

I launch my tools from a combination of
http://www.horstmuc.de/wqsel.htm
http://www.horstmuc.de/wpop.htm

Portable is the keyword here. Nothing else qualifies.
To be independent from assigned drive letters I use

Thanks to your recent changes I re-discovered the clipboard functions. For some reason I had this TB-button disabled, a bad idea, because it contains great features (both, to and from the clipboard) that I 've not seen anywhere else. Great stuff, and also thanks for the improved update.

  • Allow user to save + load object editing tools settings (arrow sizes, fonts, etc.)
Really looking forward to this one. It will speed up workflows tremendously and help maintain consistency of visual appeance.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Capture only part of a scrolling window
« on: July 07, 2014, 09:45 AM »
(I'll try to fix that and leave the red box on screen for the next release).
Good idea. Actually, I had similar problems - came to late to this thread to respond sooner.
It also took me quite a while to figure out the manual scrolling procedure - but once I had it all written down - my workflow with all possible side-tracks I had encountered - it proved to be a very reliable method to scroll even the most stubborn windows - inside programs where all other (commercial) products fail to scroll.

Totally with you on that, mouser.
Actually, I was not referring to the Aero Glass that frames phillie's window, but the Glass container on superboyac's screenshot - that's the one I'd rather not do without.  :D It seems quite useful to me to have this kind of Glass transparency when capturing black widows.

Also illustrates the usefulness of Aero Glass when capturing. I'd rather not uncheck that option.

Try resizing the bottom part by maneuvering the mouse on the divider between upper and lower parts, until your mouse pointer gets the double arrows - I guess you know the procedure - then drag all the way down, out of your view.

Thanks for considering it. Looking forward to the change.
Just like tomos I have no objections to a different hotkey like Ctrl Del or Ctrl Shift Q or whatever.
