Or get a HIPS(System Safety Monitor, etc) to go with Windows Firewall. There are free editions.
3rd party firewalls are better but not neccesary.

What's the Best? / Re: Anti-Virus Package
« on: December 03, 2006, 06:20 PM »
The AVG Internet Security Suite is actually pretty good. No compatiability issues with other software.

If you are buying, I reccommend this. Light on wallet too.

Both Tidy and Vista Start Menu have the the same link?

Edit: Ah...Same developer.

:) Totally agree with both of you. Sadly, most people tend to forgive them once a "free edition" is released.

Is MSN Messenger also Windows Live Messenger?
Some people have experienced problems with it too.

Living Room / Software Competition

Do you guys think it's morally right for someone with the role of "Feature/Concept Input- Software Tester- Website Creator" to openly criticize the software's competitors without telling people his involvement?

What does "Feature/Concept Input- Software Tester- Website Creator" of a product tells you? He's not the developer but he creates the site. So this means he's part of the team?

Will you help create a website for a shareware product for free?????

One fine example at Wilders Security Forum. Can you guess who? :D

My favorite is Crusader Kings from Paradox.
Though the game is rather old, it is great for roleplaying.
I like having a court full of inbreds. :D

http://www.paradoxpl....com/othertitles.asp

Another game from Paradox that impress me is Hearts of Iron 2: Doomsday. It's a WW2 game and there're so many ways to start the game.

Great if you like roleplaying with historical elements.

Hi Orbitdev,

Thank you for posting. I'm sorry for the false alarm.

41
LoL except for one honest poster at the end. :D

42
Note:
Softpedia guarantees that Orbit 1.0.0.2 is 100% CLEAN, which means it does not contain any form of malware, including but not limited to: spyware, viruses, trojans and backdoors. But right after install Orbit is trying to connect to DuDu.com (chinese website) and scanning with Ad-Aware SE Professional the things are getting worst :

- Adware.DuDu * 3 objects
- Adware.DesktopMedia * 1 object

So try this at your own risk, can be just fp or not.

Saw this at neowin forums. So could the mod disable the download link or check it out?

Living Room / Re: Windows XP Pro and SP2
« on: October 30, 2006, 09:15 PM »
Well I use it to update my offline image. I'm using FD-ISR so if I need to create a new fully updated image, I can just copy from the offline image.

The description of the patches seem relevant to me so I select/deselect some.

You can use AutoPatcher after installing SP2.

Link: http://www.neowin.ne...dex.php?showforum=89

It contains all the Windows updates after SP2 except for Office updates.

Do you guys know how to edit keyboard shortcut keys and rightclick menu?
With Opera, it's in a file. Does Firefox has any file that contains all these??

General Software Discussion / Re: Speeding up Windows
« on: October 20, 2006, 11:56 PM »
The drivers delay section of Bootvis show only 10 drivers.
After using Bootvis, the tracing shows Boot done in 26.81 sec from 29+ sec.

Under the Boot Activity Graph, it shows "Prefetching" (Init Time: 19.91 sec). So does that mean I should disable prefetch??

General Software Discussion / Re: Speeding up Windows
« on: October 20, 2006, 11:26 PM »
Including my security software, my bootup time from bios screen to desktop is 45-50 sec. I have 86 default fonts under Windows\Fonts.

Downloading bootvis now, 1.6-2.8KB/s. O_o

General Software Discussion / Speeding up Windows
« on: October 20, 2006, 10:31 PM »
Will removing unused drivers/fonts speed up Windows Boot time?

I saw this description: Remove useless/invalid drivers to improve system performance.
From: http://www.vnunet.co...166877/driver-genius

How true are these claims? Also how to go about removing them manually instead of using software?

Tried to delete the fonts but they just keep coming back.

General Software Discussion / Re: FortiClient
« on: October 20, 2006, 09:54 PM »
Anyone know its resource usage? Looks good and price is affordable.
Does it use its own engine/firewall?

Afaik, it will be tested in 2007 at AV-Comparatives.
