Living Room / Re: Anybody else playing with Wave?
« on: October 15, 2009, 11:50 AM »
Anyone else with Google wave invites, I'd sure like to join. It certainly looks interesting and from the video, I'd say it kinda reminds me of Microsoft's OneNote application. Anyway, if there is anyone out there with an invite handy, I'd sure like to join and check it out first hand. Thanks in advance.

General Software Discussion / Re: Favorite Firefox Theme(s)

My favorite Theme I discovered on Firefox 2. Noia (eXtreme) I think the reason I stuck with this one for so long is because of the blue scroll bars. :D

I've been a WinRar user for a long time and have to say, it's definitely my favorite.

Living Room / Re: Excel If Then Statements
« on: March 21, 2009, 11:43 AM »
I figured it out, thanks to the help from my brother. I was taking the IF statement out too far. In an IF, there can only be 3 parts, the STATEMENT, the TRUE and the FALSE. I was adding 4.

=IF(D2="Fire",            "NW",         IF(D2="Wind","SE","")) is correct,
          1                      2                       3

=IF(D2="Fire",            "NW",          "",             IF(D2="Wind",SE,"")) was incorrect
         1                       2             3                               4

However, I am still unable to edit multiple cells in the same statement...

This was done from Cell F2:

=IF(D2="Fire","NW"&G2="W",IF(D2=...

Now it fills the G2 Cell with W and leaves False in F2.

Any pointers?

I've searched a few sites for help on this matter, with no luck. So I figured I'd come ask you smart folks if you know what I'm doing wrong.

IF Cell D2 has the value "Fire" THEN Cell F2 receives "NW" AND Cell G2 receives "W", ELSE Put nothing in the box, shown in my code below

                    =if((D2="Fire"),F2="NW"&G2="W","")

However, I always get "False" Returned to the cell I put this code into.

There has to be something that I'm either missing or just doing wrong. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Having been using Office 2007 for some time; and being a Keyboard enthusiast, I usually have the ribbon minimized. There are always occasions when I do open it and use it, but for the most part, I think it uses up too much of my Widescreen. :) I like how they grouped things and made it, in my opinion, easier to find specific tools embedded within Office.

I have been a huge fan of Microsoft Office, and this one take the cake for me.

General Software Discussion / Re: Firefox Extension: Link Extend
« on: March 09, 2009, 04:38 PM »
I've found that anything that pre-searches potential site hits will slow down your browser. I've seen it with Antivirus trying to 'inform' me of potential bad sites, as this one indicates is it's function. However, if safety is your main concern, as the quoted portion by mouser states, 'the cautious user', perhaps the wait is worth it.

I've found in personal experience, the only sites I should be especially wary of, are usually associated with No CD/DVD workarounds and the such.

Living Room / Re: adding memory to my Dell Precision 380
« on: March 09, 2009, 04:32 PM »
I've personally gone through either Newegg or Tigerdirect for all of my hardware updates. I can't say I prefer one over the other, but I have purchased more from tigerdirect. As far as the 2GB over 4GB it's my understanding that unless you are running a x64 bit system, you can't utilize anything over 2GB. I may be misinformed about that. I believe Vista had changed that too allowing 4GB to run on a Vista 32bit version, and up to 8GB or 16GB on 64bit version.

I hope this information is still correct, and it helps you.

Definitely not a favorite, but tofu shakes are quite nice, in my opinion.  :P

I only posted this because I thought others might be interested in it. I don't even remember what it covered (and since I have sworn off paying attention to other people's time management advice, I am not about to watch it again)
HAHA!   ;D I find that when it comes to time management, the best advice is your own because no one knows your day/schedule/likes/interests etc. like you do.  :)

HAHA! It was a little confusing, actually it was very confusing... a lot of tries, but we finally deleted the password and she logged directly into her laptop without password prompt.

Set password to 'test' and rebooted.

Logged in successfully.

Thank you all for the help!

This is an interesting application, I have several things I would like to try this with. I'll get my results on here later this week for anyone who's interested.

Sorry about the double post.  :P

Might be interesting to use in conjunction with FARR... 8)

What's FARR.... 8)  ?¿?¿?¿

FARR refers to Find And Run Robot, do a forum search for more info. :)

Maybe using the search engine of choice, you can find and download photos of the movie, and get a coder to create a randomize app for the pics listed in a directory, that way you could a) make sure the chosen thumb is appropriate and b) something that you would still recognize as the movie file. Just a thought.  :)

Living Room / Re: The Greatest Graphic Novel of All Time: Watchmen
« on: March 08, 2009, 06:25 PM »
I think movies work like this: Watch the movie before you read the book. That way if Hollywood totally smurfs up the book's story, well, it might still be a good movie but with a different story than the book. Then you'll have (potentially) seen a good movie and you can still read a good book.

I remember this is how it was with Eragon. People who had read the book absolutely hated the movie (including me), but most people who had not read the book enjoyed the movie (including my wife).

This is exactly what to do! You always hear of the exact opposite happening though. Oh 'said title' is being made into a movie. **Rushes out to find/read/re-read book of 'said title'.*** Now I can go watch the movie...

Only to find the story doesn't follow, or has been changed so rashly, that it ruins the rest of the movie. Another epic example of this was Beowulf. The epic poem about Beowulf's heroic adventures takes him across the ocean to fight a monster spawned by the sin of a king. Upon destroying the monster, Beowulf is then instructed to kill the mother. And there is where the poem and the movie completely differ. (If you haven't read the book or seen the animated film, I won't spoil it.) Having never read the poem, I thought the movie was pretty good for a CG film. However upon researching more on the actual poem, I found the added/changed content disturbing. Why Hollywood deemed the change in the story is completely beyond me, and in my opinion, took away from the heroic nature of Beowulf.

WOW! I laughed so hard at the Spider joke, along with my co-workers.

Wow, I've never seen this one before!
How about Ophcrack? it can crack your windows XP password and display it. It worked pretty well for me.
Looks like Ophcrack requires you to be able to get into your machine, which would be nice if she could remember her password.  ;)
You should be able to use BartPE or the like to get access to the necessary password files, then take them to another machine and use a cracker. Ophcrack mentions having a liveCD, so possibly it's automated.
That's a good idea. I'm going to get her laptop today around 7pm, so now I have plenty of options to try. I appreciate all the effort put into this.

I heard from a friend that it was a horrible waste of 3 hours. He had re-read it before watching it and it totally went off the wayside. Having never read it myself, nor seeing the movie, I can only go off of what I've heard. I typically don't like watching movies based on a book that I've recently read, because Hollywood always tends to add change the story.

General Software Discussion / Re: What's your mouse of choice?
« on: March 08, 2009, 08:59 AM »
Logitech MediaPlay. This mouse is about 5 years old, has lived through a pop spill directly over the buttons (had to open it up and dry/clean it) It has several programmable buttons, which wasn't compatible with Vista for a long time. But I absolutely love the mouse. Originally $50. Now I think it sells for somewhere around $30, if you can find one.

I also like the Logitech VX Nano because of the tiny USB receiver. :)

When I was younger for some reason I fell victim to the world of The Punisher. I don't remember exactly what it was that drew me to that particular comic, but I really liked it. Perhaps it was the flawless execution of The Punisher's planning or something. :P Regardless, comics can really be a big part of life, the stories, the drama, the unexpected death of a loved one or ally. Like a good book, a good picture book. :)

Deozaan, I saw some of the Broken Saints, but not the whole thing, it could have been the slow rate in between frames that threw me off, but I don't exactly remember. I'll probably have to revisit that and finish it. :)

48
That makes sense. I appreciate the explanation. Sorry I don't know much about coding; to me something that has been coded for the Windows OS should work for all Windows OS's, but that just shows how much I don't know.  :D

49
How about getting a Magic 8-Ball to agree? You might have to ask it a few times, but I'm sure it will eventually become agreeable.

Hahaha! I was thinking along those same lines.
