Why should Google place twitter or wikipedia results above the regular search results?

Not everyone wants that. In fact I suspect that majority will be against this idea.

This is where browsers like Firefox with its infinite customization options in the form of add-ons and greasemonkey scripts come in. You can customize Google to add the features that you want.

General Software Discussion / How to run a program and minimize it?
« on: October 12, 2009, 09:57 PM »
There's this program Billy that gets minimized to system tray when the minimize button is clicked. I would like to launch this program and have it immediately minimized to sys tray. So I created a shortcut to it and set it to run minimized via the shortcut properties. However when it is launched via this shortcut, it doesn't go to the tray instead appears like this:

Is there a fix to this natively in Windows other than having to depend on writing a macro using AutoHotKey or otherwise?

In your 3rd post you see the 'Add to Contacts' button in the screenshot? Click on it and you can copy the email address from the resulting window.

I am on XP and use v1.0.3.9 beta 7 that's released on Jul. 6th, 2008 according to ClipX's homepage, http://www.bluemars.org/clipx/.

Directory Opus: My favorite file manager.

Billy: A very lightweight no-nonsense music player.

Macro Express: I use this mainly to auto click on program controls like 'I agree'..sort of like 'Push That Freaking Button'.

Direct Folders: I use it to quickly jump to frequently used folders and for the 'click switch' feature.

Browser Tray Switch: I want to set Firefox as default browser while at home and IE while at work. I use BTS for this.

StrokeIt: For mouse gestures.

PhraseExpress: One of the most useful software I've ever used.

ClipX: My favorite clipboard manager. Clipboard menu has 2nd item highlighted by default and that's excellent thinking w.r.t usability on part of the creator.

Find And Run Robot: What I like about this is the advanced features like aliases and plugins. But when it comes to raw speed, my ex launcher, Executor is awesome.

AutoHotKey script: This is a simple one in which I have set hotkeys for common programs like Word, Outlook, IE..

Since my last post in this thread I did some research and found out several programs that already do what I want.

@skwire: I appreciate your initiative to make the program for me but I don't see the need for it any more now that I found out about the following:

http://www.codessent...cts/yadisbackup.html is what am using now. What I like about this program is that it automatically copies modified files over to the target instantly in the background.

These are others that I have bookmarked (but haven't tried yet):

skwire: It will be great if you can place 'Execute' or 'Run' buttons per set as well as for all the sets.

Thanks lanux.

Until I find a more complete solution like being able to specify multiple sets of copy operations within a single program, this will be useful. What I mean by multiple sets is that:

Set 1:
Source file/folder | Destination folder(s)

Set 2:
Source file/folder | Destination folder(s)

Set 3:
Source file/folder | Destination folder(s)

General Software Discussion / Re: Windows Security Essentials
« on: October 05, 2009, 01:28 PM »
Security Essentials fares well in AV-Test trial

Microsoft 's new Security Essentials software has passed at least one exam so far--a review by security testing firm AV-Test.org.

To check static known malware, AV-Test pitted Security Essentials against the most recent WildList, a sampling of 3,732 viruses and other threats compiled by the WildList Organization. Microsoft's product successfully detected and blocked all of the samples in both manual and active scanning.

AV-Test also threw its current set of 545,034 viruses, worms, Trojans, and other threats at Security Essentials. MSSE successfully caught 536,535 samples for an overall good detection score of 98.44 percent.

General Software Discussion / What are some good multimedia viewers?
« on: October 05, 2009, 06:23 AM »
I am looking for a windows program that can be used to view, organize and tag multimedia: images, music and videos.

Does ACDSee handle videos and mp3s also?

McAfee now offers unlimited online backup, but you should use Mozy instead

There are cases where re-branding something might make sense, but this isn't one of them.

McAfee has announced that they are adding an online backup service to their stable of products. There's no limit on your storage space and it runs $59.99US per year. That's not a bad deal at $5 a month -- right?

Well, no, it's not. But you could go and get the exact same service without the red McAfee M from Mozy - who are handling all the heavy lifting for McAfee Online Backup anyway.

Apart from the fact that you get service from the guys actually storing your data, Mozy also allows you to pay monthly, yearly, or biannually. Book a year and you get one month free. Step up to two years at a time, and you get three months of free service. McAfee doesn't offer any such discounts.

Even if you're a McAfee fan you should skip the middleman and use Mozy. Of course, it's highly likely that McAfee doesn't plan on standalone purchases of Online Backup from their web store. They'll no doubt get a pile of signups from users who receive their security apps preinstalled on retail laptops and desktops.

jgpaiva: I am looking forward to hear how MS Security Essentials fares against the free combo of Avira + Malwarebytes's anti-malware (free version of Malwarebytes doesn't provide real time protection).

Another joke from Microsoft. I would stay away from it.

Microsoft notes that Microsoft Security Essentials is an anti-malware program and should not be used while any other anti-virus program is still running on the PC.

These guys do comprehensive antivirus comparison tests.

Surprising to see the free AVG rank higher than Nod32.

I just glanced through the quote and your post.

To me it doesn't look like a headache issue. Just install nod32/kaspersky + Malwarebytes' anti-malware and you are safe.

Wordpress, Joomla, MediaWiki, raw XHTML/CSS, Drupal, postNuke, Typo3 (learning how to use this is equivalent to doing a PhD)...I have tried them all.

WordPress is the best. Whether you want a one page site or multi-page static site or of course a blog, nothing can beat WordPress.

It is simple to learn, simple to use, has unlimited feature set thanks to the plugins and is easiest of them all to customize [That as someone who don't know programming (PHP in particular) can still use WordPress to make a (side) living speaks volumes on how great the platform is].

Is it possible to have Scrapebook data to be uploaded online and have sync features like in Xmarks?
