Is it possible through some software to click the links and buttons on computer screen by touching with our fingers?

Techtree has a useful article on the search for the Perfect File Copy Manager.

The software mentioned are TeraCopy, CopyHandler, SuperCopier 2, Total Copy, YCopy and Unstoppable Copier.

I was wondering if there's a s/w that exists already which will do the following:

I should be able to add files/folders/shortcuts/exes to a dock by browsing to them or drag-n-drop. Let's say I drag this dock to the right side of my screen. When I move the mouse on that edge, this dock will appear. And when I mouse over on an item, a confirmation has to pop-up. When I mouse over on the 'yes' area of confirmation, that item should be launched. So there's no mouse click anywhere.

It should be just move (to the dock), move (to the item in the dock to be launched) and move (and to the confirmation region).

Any ideas?

General Software Discussion / Maxthon or Avant?
« on: April 19, 2008, 10:16 AM »
Although my primary browser is Firefox and sometimes Opera, I still have to use IE for intranet.

I am looking for a light weight IE based tabbed browser that has session restore feature. Can anyone tell me which among Maxthon and Avant is lighter on system resources?

Found Deals and Discounts / Typing Assistant - Free at GAOTD
« on: February 24, 2008, 06:29 AM »
When typing, a smart Typing Assistant prompt window opens to show you possible words you are typing. Then with one key stroke it completes the word for you. The program automatically learns the words you type, and automatically expands user-defined shorthand to full text, so that the more you use the program, the smarter it becomes and the more you find it useful.

This is similar to LetMeType.

I find it faster than similar applications and quite useful. Get it.

Living Room / A script to auto backup web server files?
« on: January 25, 2008, 12:28 PM »
Hello all,

I run a WordPress blog hosted at DreamHost. I was wondering if anyone know a method to automatically backup (to the web server and e-mail) all the files in a directory (wp-content/themes/freicurv, to be specific).

Thanks in advance.

Found Deals and Discounts / EverNote - Free today at GAOTD
« on: November 15, 2007, 03:21 AM »
EverNote is one of the best programs I've ever used. The full version of it is free for 24 hrs at http://www.giveawayo...theday.com/evernote/

EverNote allows you to easily capture any information you like, and find it whenever you want. Create text or handwritten notes, import mobile phone snapshots, clip web pages, and grab content from any application directly into EverNote - so everything is kept in a single place.

Once your data is in EverNote, find it quickly using our advanced search, automatic and custom categories, and intuitive interface.

EverNote innovates by storing content on an endless, virtual roll of paper. You can quickly scroll chronologically through your notes similar to scanning through handwritten notes in a notebook.

Grab it while it's free.

Is there a light-weight freeware program using which I can quickly jot down notes when working on my PC? It should be dockable and auto-hide when the mouse is not over it. Also should support auto-save.

I guess I could use yahoo widgets or Google desktop search sidebar, but they consume significant amount of memory.

Thanks for any pointers.

General Software Discussion / How to hide windows start menu/button?
« on: October 16, 2007, 06:56 AM »
Like most of you, I don't use the Start menu any more in my Windows XP (Thanks to Launchy and Direct Access).

Now I want to just get rid of the start menu and reclaim the space it takes up on the task bar. However I still want the win key to bring it up.

A google search took me to a program whose download link doesn't work (http://www.programur...ide-start-button.htm).

Does anyone have ideas?

General Software Discussion / PowerPro bar question
« on: October 03, 2007, 09:31 AM »
I would like to have my only visible PowerPro bar to be centered and at the top of my screen (auto hide). I currently have the following settings:

Screenshot - 03-Oct-07 , 7_57_29 PM.jpg

but the bar doesn't appear centered and is docked to the left!?

Also I would like the bar height to be the same as those of the icons.

Any idea how to do these?

General Software Discussion / Command to empty recycle bin?
« on: September 27, 2007, 09:37 PM »
I want to create a button for emptying recycle bin and put it at the top of my screen using PowerPro. I tried

cmd.exe del \C C:\RECYCLER\?*.*

but that didn't delete the contents.

Any ideas? (w/o using another program like http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html or http://www.appdeploy...ds/detail.asp?id=298, if possible)

I use many programs throughout the day and some of these are shareware. I like to use free ones though as far as possible. Below are some programs I couldn't simply find good free alternatives for:

1. PS Tray Factory

2. Internet Download Manager (FDM, FlashGet etc. won't work on Rapidshare)

3. EditPlus. No free program I know has this feature:

How about in your case?

Screenshot Captor / [Feature Request] Floating menu with buttons
« on: September 25, 2007, 12:22 AM »
Hi mousie,

First of all, have to say that I don't even use SSC or never tried it at least once. I would, if it had a floating menu that had buttons for various capture modes like active window, object, rectangular, full screen, scrolling etc. like this:

General Software Discussion / How do you launch stuff?
« on: September 19, 2007, 01:22 AM »
Off late, I've been researching on several ways to launch programs/files/folders/web sites.

I've tried

a) adding a menu in DOpus but realized that I have to switch to its window and click on the menu to get to the items

b)
1) Added a menu in PhraseExpress and set a hotkey ctrl+M to bring up the menu. I still have to press a hot key to bring up the menu
2) Similar hotkey menu activation using PS Hot Launch (better than DOpus method because the individual items automatically get a letter by which they can be selected)

c) Launchy, FARR etc.: I have to press a key like Alt+space to bring up the floating command line. Of course this method has the added advantage that you need not manually add items to the menu as they get auto picked from Program Files.

d) LaunchOnFly: This brings up the menu simply by moving mouse to one of the 4 screen edges or corners. Excellent! Here are some screens:

LaunchOnFly.jpg

LaunchOnFly2.jpg

I'm using the last free version which can be downloaded from here.

Are there any similar better free programs that brings up a menu by simply mousing over a region of the screen?

How about you? What do you use?

General Software Discussion / Looking for a rich text editor
« on: September 04, 2007, 08:16 PM »
I am looking for a rich text editor that has the following features:

  • Both plain text as well as formatting like bold, underlining and images should be supported
  • Multiple instances of the application should be runnable. (Ex.: 1.abc, 2.abc)
  • Each instance should have multiple tabs support. When I save, close and reopen a file, say 1.abc, tabs along w/ their contents should be restored.

Prefer freeware. Does anyone know anything close to this?

Living Room / Any site to download book CD-ROMs from?

General Software Discussion / File vault for web site
« on: August 28, 2007, 02:01 AM »
Is anyone aware of a java applet or some other means by which I can drag and drop files to store in my own web space? Here are my requirements:

1. No limit on the file size I want to upload
2. Should work from behind corporate proxy
3. (If possible) I should be able to upload an entire folder
4. Downloads should not be public and be accessible only via a secure password

Basically I am looking for what Box.net provides, but only it should work on my web hosting space.

Any ideas?

Post New Requests Here / IDEA: Replace mouse click with a key press
« on: August 21, 2007, 04:03 AM »
It would be less stressful to press a key on my keyboard than clicking the mouse.

So I was wondering if there's any utility that will do the clicking for me when I point the mouse and press a key (like CTRL or Fn).

To summarize: I want it like this -> I move my mouse to a hyperlink and hit CTRL key and the link should get clicked.

I am aware of MouseTool (it clicks the mouse where ever you point) but the problem with that is accidental clicks. If only there's an option in it to enable its functionality only when a key is pressed...

General Software Discussion / The software awards scam
« on: August 17, 2007, 12:48 PM »
I put out a new product a couple of weeks ago. This new product has so far won 16 different awards and recommendations from software download sites. Some of them even emailed me messages of encouragement such as “Great job, we’re really impressed!”. I should be delighted at this recognition of the quality of my software, except that the ’software’ doesn’t even run.

Talks about the unethical practice of the so-called download sites which don't even care to review the submissions and blindly issue a "5-star" award to every entry irrespective of whether it is genuine software or junk. Quite an interesting read!

We internet-addicts are a tragic group. We spend our days and nights creating and maintaining the greatest network of knowledge known to man, while wasting away (or, in most cases, ballooning up) in our extra-lumbar-support chairs. And what do we get in return for enslaving ourselves to our machines? Money? Fame? Sometimes, but more often than not all we get is a sore back, dry eyes, creaking finger joints, and carpal tunnel syndrome. What are we cubicle dwellers and home computer workers to do?! The answer is quite simple, actually: get some exercise.
