Find And Run Robot / Window sizing bug (scrollbars)
« on: October 03, 2005, 10:45 PM »
hi there mouser,

yup, the error comes up every time i click the "about box". so now, if i want to know the version number, i've go to the help file...

and the sizing is that, uh, i'll try to explain via pics (much easier)...

http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/4585/size12ap.png

pic1: original size

http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/8625/size22ys.png

pic2: i key-in query, window auto-resize (empty results)

http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/1104/size33yk.png

pic3: window stays resized when i call F&RR again (with scrollbars...)

so, basically what i want is for F&RR to stay at size of pic1 whenever i call it with the "Pause/Break" key regardless of the search result...
okey then. happy coding, mouser!

best regards,
lanux

Find And Run Robot / Re: v1.07.18 beta
« on: October 03, 2005, 09:46 PM »
hi there mouser,

sorry didn't notice this topic before posting here.
anyway, i have another suggestion...

i.e make F&RR read from the registry esp. the "App.Path" branch, where entries in this branch can be executed by keying-in the app name in the "Run box". this way, F&RR is one-step closer to taking over the "Run box" for good... ;-)

best regards,
lanux

P.S. for your reference: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths]

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Freeware Windows Installer?
« on: October 03, 2005, 09:31 PM »
hi there,

personally i prefer 'green' software but due to non-techie users, installers have to be used... ;-)

i usually look up here for installers & setup tools: Prospector - Installers

Find And Run Robot / Re: RichEdit line insertion error...
« on: October 03, 2005, 09:21 PM »
hi there mouser,

just tried out the v1.07.18 beta, you are going so fast that i totally skipped v1.07.15 beta... ;-)
anyway, there are few pointers that i would like to share...

the above-mentioned error keeps popping up in the v1.07.18 beta, so i thought i'd just google it...
and this solution came the closest:
RichEdit line insertion error.

This error message is due to a size limitation with richedit components for some versions of Windows.
An exception error is raised when trying to insert text greater than 64KB.
It has to do with the version of riched32.dll that you're using on your computer.
Source: http://www.philosophers.co.uk/quotations/bugs.htm

then i checked my version of Riched32.dll, which is 5.1.2600.0
so maybe there is some version conflicts...

another thing is that while the "Auto-shrink window to fit results" is cool, i wish there was a way that it doesn't save the windows' size because i also use "Blank search shows files from launch history" which i've set to 9 entries (so i'd like to retain the windows' height)...

okey, that's it for now...

best regards,
lanux

P.S. to try out the skins thingy... :-)

hi there skrommel,

just wondering whether is it possible to add a "reload config" option for WinWarden since it is a bit cumbersome to edit the ini file then having to quit first so that WinWarden recognise the changes...

thanks in advance

hi there skrommel,

this is just what i was looking for! although i have another use for it, i.e. to prevent my toddler from pressing the keys when he's watching any videos on the pc. previously i was running a plethora of tools, one to block the desktop (Child Proof), another to lock the mouse (Squeaky Clean) & yet another app just to block the Win keys (WinKeyKill)...

but now, u made it simple... thank you very much. ;-)

hi there nontroppo,

is it possible to do the same thing with autohotkey scripts? i mean, to create group containing ahk scripts which by selecting them will call up autohotkey to execute the script...

thanks in advance...

Any comments on WinWarden? Too difficult to configure?

hi there skrommel,

basically, i am very pleased that it does what i want, i.e. watch out for a window then resize/reposition it.
but i can't get find the "one-click to center the active window" feature that i need... and also i found a topic that pretty much deals with the same thing, with mouser suggesting:

i use this freeware tool called "Discover" to move windows off screen back on screen:
http://www.geocities...2/main/freeware.html

i could use this "Discover" tool but then i'll be running 2 window-monitoring apps... ;-)
btw, since you asked, i am rather overwhelmed by the minimalistic ini file settings and more examples on its usage will be very helpful. but rest assured, i am going to give WinWarden thorough spin this weekend & hopefully to get a better picture...

best regards,
lanux

hi there skrommel,

just noticed that at the WinWarden section, you had inserted the link for another topic...
the one that says:
Thanks to lanux128 at DonationCoder for the idea!

it's no big deal... maybe, you want to alter it.  ;-)

« on: September 08, 2005, 10:13 PM »
:) And finally the ultimate verison!
CAPshift slows down and extends the caps lock key.

hi there skrommel,

sorry to bother you  but i have a small request. can you modify CAPshift to detect when a game or movie is being played in full-screen mode, then CAPshift will disable itself. this is because when playing games, i accidentally press 'Caps Lock' instead of 'Tab' then CAPshift menu appears and whole game goes bust... ;-(

and then after we're done, we can activate it later. what do you think, is this possible...?
anyway, thanks in advance...

ContextMenu Commander / Re: ContextMenu Commander
« on: September 04, 2005, 10:52 PM »
if anyone feels up for it, i'd love some help collecting links to and lists of existing tiny little right-click context menu tools, and the functions they provide.

hi there mouser,

i'm eagerly awaiting for your app & since u asked, i'd like list down some of stuff that i've come across...

  • NirExt v1.01 : adds 3 useful context menu extensions, i.e. Folder Properties, Advanced Run & Create Shortcut+.
  • Unlocker : allows you to delete files/folders that are locked by Windows.
  • Parameteriser : add command-line parameters to any program in Explorer. (similar to Advanced Run of NirExt)
  • CopyPath :  Copy path of files or directories to the clipboard. With options such as appending to the clipboard and adding prefix/suffix to the selection.
  • Drop To DOS : right click on any folder and choose the Drop to DOS option to take to you a command prompt within that folder. (i know there are gazilions of other programs that does the same thing... ;-))
  • CopyURL : copy different information from your Internet Shortcut files such as Copy URL, Copy Link and Copy Name to the clipboard. This is so good that I always keep the DLL handy & just run regsvr32 on it. No installation needed...
  • shortcutEXP : open a folder that a shortcut is pointing to.
  • Saivert's ShortCut Shell Ext: gives you two new menu items, i.e. "Goto folder for target" and "Resolve Shortcut" (shortcutEXP's less-endowed cousin)
  • HobComment : permits you to add/edit comments for each one of your directories
  • 1-4a rename : File-renamer. Can be added to the folder context-menu with a reg file... (a personal favourite...)
  • Shell Object Editor : This is not a context-menu tool but this is another favourite of mine. It allows one to create a shell object, like the "My Documents" folder. They are not real folders on your hard disk, they only refer to real folders.
ok, that will do for now, i guess...

The systray icon is an interface for the DLL: hotplug.dll.  If you type in the command:
%SystemRoot%\System32\RUNDLL32.EXE shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll
You will get the same window as if you double click/right click the systray icon.
tks a lot, jsmallberry...

being cmd-line junkie, i can create a cmd-line alias with this info....

Yeah, I really don't like having to open up the system tray icon, find the right item, and then stop it.
There ought to be an easier way to do that...

Image Manager Shootout / Re: Xnview vs. Irfan View
« on: August 30, 2005, 12:00 AM »
One of my longstanding real pet peeves with irfanview is its absolute insistence on Save As starting in the last directory you saved into, rather that the current directory holding the picture.  i almost always want to save as in the directory the original image came from.  I've taken to patching my irfanview exe to block this but it is surely annoying.

hi there mouser,

sorry to revive this old thread, but i'm interested to know about the patching you did with irfanview because the same 'feature' causes me much problems. maybe you can explain how to do it?

thanks in advance

hi there,

i found this freeware command-line tool that has a lot of features - NirCmd v1.70. it also controls windows positioning but however it centers all top-level windows in one go...

What it does
... allows you to do some useful tasks without displaying any user interface. By running NirCmd with simple command-line option, you can write and delete values and keys in the Registry, write values into INI file, restart windows or shut down the computer, create shortcut to a file, change the created/modified date of a file, change your display settings, turn off your monitor, open the door of your CD-ROM drive, and more...

hi there,

first of all, i'd like to thank you for devoting so much time on creating good quality freeware.

i used to have a software called Leaf Winkeeper which allows me to position application's window as they appear on screen. unfortunately that software is no longer being updated but now it is showing it's age as it has problems with WinXP... ;-(

i was hoping that maybe someone in this forum can create a similar software because my hunt for such a software on the internet has proved futile. there is one software that comes close but it can only maximize the windows not resize to a certain size. Here is the link: AutoSizer

another tool that is continuing to elude me is a one-click tool that centers the top-most (active) window regardless of the it's windows title or class name...

once again, i'd like to take opportunity to thank you for your time.

thanks in advance
best regards,

I've seen a program that does this too...can't remember the name but it was made by a Linux user who missed the feature in Windows. It did work universally. Sorry I don't remember the name!

hi there,

i believe that the tool mentioned by looper is Linux ClipBoard. it's web-site is spanish but the program & help file are in english. here is the link: http://www.vikt0ry.com/progs.php?pagina=2

I've configured this program 2 do just that:

yeah, i had a look but it hasn't been updated for some time (since 2001) so i'd stay put for mouser's context-menu thingy, which sounds very promising... ;-)

tks anyway...

hi lanux,
you can do Ctrl+C followed by Ctrl+V to create a copy of any file, which will create "Copy of ..."

thanx 4 replying, i knew the keyboard combo but somewhat it gets in the way because i have take my eyes off the screen & i have trouble focusing on the key-board (i know, i'm getting old ;-))

but it's ok, since DonationCoder.com coming up with a new context menu tool then i'll just wait for it... btw for this tool, pls put in some options that enables us to show/hide which commands we want on the context-menu...

tks mouser

lanux
