Living Room / Re: Jack PC
« on: June 01, 2006, 01:07 PM »
That has got to be the coolest thing I've ever seen. Where can I get one!

3152
If it wasnt for cracked software, and piracy, I wouldnt have just purchased Doom 3, Doom 3 ROE, and Quake 4 (Which are set to deliver today!). They let me try out the regular versions of the games, and then, since I NEED online play, I bought all three. So yes, I followed that line and supported these great developers.

3153
So, I got this idea from the irc channel ( irc://irc.efnet.org/donationcoder ), so here goes.

How many processes do you have running on A. Startup, and B. After startup (during normal usage).

A. 58
B. 65

Post a photo of yourself, if you're not shy that is ;-)

Does this mean I am a hax0r?

As said in the famous "hacker" video, "I dont consider myself a leet hax0r, but I do consider myself a hacker"

3156
Would it be possible to have an app created that can display all hotkeys that are currnetly mapped on a system and by which app they are mapped?

3157
you are all heretics.
surely the left shift key is the best key in all the world.

I dunno, I am a rightie myself ;-)

3158
I've always been a fan of the open apple key, why, i dont know.

Living Room / Re: PDAs - any use?

Dont let the general microsoft views get in the way when it comes to pocket pc's. They are quite decent products as is windows mobile edition. Comparitively, and this is subjective, I feel the bang for the buck is best with the pocketpc because you get a much wider array of apps, far more compatibility with your desktop software (easier sync), and generally better support.

If you are in the arena for a PDA, I would suggest moving to the pocketpc line of products. Not only do you get a familiar interface (windows based in most cases, although there are some linux-based ones), but you get a wider variety of apps and far greater compatibility. I recommend the HP iPaq, they are great little machines.

Cool, when you do that, can you add a way to save the current desktop icon layout and restore it at a later time? A preferred way of handling this would be to store the icon layouts in .dtl (or whatever file ext you choose) files, that way you can save different layouts under different names. What do you think? This would be a life saver for me since this program already works so well at preventing icons from being moved around, but if a rogue app does move them or windows decides to restore them, I can quickly restore them to their original layout. Let me know man. Thanks!

http://www.pricegrab...ct,__10234201/qlty=o

There is the links for it, OEM Versions, meaning you wont get the box, just a cd, which is all you need and all I ever purchase.

3164
How about the old magento-optical drives? Anyone remember these? They were really big when the CD-R first came about because they offered a CD-RW type solution.

Also, how about the CYRIX processor ;-)

Also, in case anyone wants it, a PDF version of this article.

Is there a way to make this hotkey global so that I can re-enable desklock with it after the program has been disabled? Thanks again man!

As stated by mouser in this thread, https://www.donation...index.php?topic=3808 , I am now the official screencaster for dc.com. As such, I am pleased to release my first cast. This one demonstrates locate and gives a basic overview of the program. So, without further ado, here goes nothing.

https://www.donation.../MiniReviews/Locate/

Also, please turn up your volume, as this is my first screencast, I have yet to perfect the microphone usage so volume is really low. Anyways, enjoy!

3167
As I said to you mouser, I am more than happy to help out the site. If any of the members wish a screencast of an app or apps used in their mini-review or review, simply send me a private message or email me at crosscut @t whaddu d0t com and I will do my best to get it for them to include as quickly as I can. Include what you want demonstrated in the screencast, what points you want made, who makes it, where it can be downloaded, etc (any pertinent information to the program(s)). I will be glad to help out with full reviews as well, and will gladly work along with you as you test and review each application.

As for donationcredits, please, I ask that you instead send those to mouser or the dc.com general account as my work here is done probono. (spelling?). The sheer fact that the site gets more promotion and more recognition is enough for me.

Anyways, My thanks go out to mouser for entrusting me with this task, and I hope to be able to further contribute more to the donationcoder.com website so that it gets the recognition it deserves.

Thanks again and look forward to working with all of you.

Josh

Well, to each their own, its plenty for me. Hourly updates are for the overly paranoid. I've never seen symantec not release an update as soon as its ready when a virus comes out. No viruses have gotten through on me yet, so I have no reason to distrust them :)

3169
Symantec updates several times a day, its just the liveupdate defs arent put out but every 2-3 days. You can always download daily updates

3170
Awesome! Is there a way to make it so that you can enable/disable the program via a hotkey?

3171
What does that mean? Lock more classes? I am confused

3172
Awesome! That works great! Thanks alot skrommel! I will let it run a while and post any further feedback :)

3173
ok, wintidy used to work in winxp pro, but with media center it fails. I like the way wintidy works, but I have yet to find another app that does what it can. Can anyone generate an app for me that will work like wintidy does, allowing you to save layouts by name, and then have a single click restore of the icon positions?

3174
Better late than never ;-)

Does this one allow configuration of an interval to check for the file at the specified url? Also, perhaps a way to specify parameters to pass to the downloaded file would be nice, unless that is possible using current conventions. I do like the tooltip idea :)

3175
One thing I did notice is that when you change the amount of time between updates, its not remembered when you restart the app and its also not updated on the timer. Is there a way to do this via a registry key? You could store whether or not silent updates are enabled, auto update is enabled, the update interval and the default log file to use all in registry. Would this be feasible? One final thing, when you press update to do a manual update, it doesnt reset the timer (at least in the titlebar of the app). Thanks again!
