I haven't looked at UE Studio.  Not really being a hardcore programmer myself, I'm happy keeping three or four source files open in UltraEdit and compiling my project as needed from the IBasic IDE.  Pretty basic stuff (no pun intended).   ;D

Zaine,

Here's an opinion from Paul Turley, creator of the IBasic, EBasic, and Aurora programming languages.  These languages are all designed to create self-contained Windows executables.  Aurora is being further developed by Paul to run on Linux.

I'm sure that some programmers will disagree, but that's what makes it fun.

"Linux is worse for the programmer, always has been.  It is dependancy hell as there are hundreds of libraries that an application may depend on that are not included on all distributions.  It is up to you to package these libraries into .deb or rpm distributions."

Living Room / Russinovich on Malware Cleaning
« on: December 31, 2006, 01:55 PM »
Very interesting video featuring Mark Russinovich discussing "Advanced Malware Cleaning".  He uses some of the free Sysinternals programs, plus mentions some other rootkit-detection software.

The video runs an hour or so.  You have to login to see it.

Me too.  Disabling some services and doing some reversible tweaking is comfortable for me.  Uninstalling major components isn't.

You paid for program A, then discovered freeware program B that worked better for you and tried to get a refund for program A?

Need more details about scenario #2 before I can evaluate it.

But I'm waiting for someone to explain the fascination with puzzles for them.

As opposed to, say, others' fascination with gigantic, surgically-enhanced body parts?   ;D

I had never paid attention to the number of members.  50,000!!!  I had no idea there were that many.

How many do you suppose post once in a while?

I bought a Samsung laser on sale for fifty bucks.  Prints beautiful black text - fast, quiet, and cheap.  Upload my photos to Kodak, low-cost two-day service for prints that are high-quality and durable.

Threw away my refill bottles and hypo.  Decided I didn't really NEED to do much color printing.

What would happen if one of your customers demanded that the box be included?

Understandably, you may wish not to, though

I upgraded when 2.0 first appeared, but it broke Tabbrowser Extensions (I know, TBE is buggy, a resource hog, not recommended, causes a million problems, etc. - but I love it   ;D).

So, I reverted to 1.5.0.8 and am doing great.  I'll keep 2.0 in the back of my mind.  And also Cooliris.

315
I installed Cooliris in FF 1.5.0.8 - it's pretty neat, no denying that.

After a few hours of use my system started to slow way down - I checked memory usage and saw 360 megs for Firefox!  A few open/close cycles showed that with Cooliris installed, Firefox was using about 200 megs more RAM at startup than without it.

Without Cooliris, it's very unusual for FF to go over 125 megs on my system, even after a full day of use.  I decided that, for me, it's almost as convenient to just open a new tab to take a quick look at a site, so I got rid of Cooliris.

I scan the alt.comp.freeware posts once or twice every day - what Carol says is absolutely true.  Don't waste your breath on them.

I nominate SpeQ Mathematics, a clean and powerful little program done with my favorite programming language (but not by me).  It's free, donations much appreciated.

The files need about 450K, half of which is the User Guide.

SpeQ has the following features.

    * Expression calculations with arithmetic, conditional, logical and bitwise operators
    * Around 100 built-in mathematical, physical and conditional constants
    * Around 60 built-in functions for Analysis, Arithmetic, Complex numbers, Hyperbolic, Integers, Probability, Numeral systems, Statistics, Trigonometry
    * Define your own variables and functions for use in calculations
    * Plot fully adaptable graphs, trace the plotted functions, save your graphs
    * Decimal, binary, hexadecimal and octal numeral systems
    * Complex number calculations
    * Colored workarea
    * Save and load sheets
    * Orderly overview of all available functions and constants in the Functionstree
    * A list with all defined variables and functions in the Memorylist
    * Context-sensitive help and a detailed users guide

A dollar a month for the premium content shouldn't break the bank.

I'm particularly interested in DeltaSpy. Does anyone know about it or have any experience with it? I have nothing against Website Watcher, but I get completely lost in its preferences. They are terrible. A solid 30% of it, if not more, makes plain NO SENSE to me. They are up there on my list of programs with incomprehensible preference dialogs. Directory Opus still takes the cake in the department, but Website Watcher is up there. In contrast, DeltaSpy looks fresh and new and might just do the trick for me. I'll have to try it out.

This program (now called Update Patrol) is discounted today only from $49.95 to $15.00.

About half of my extensions died when I installed 2.0, so my tip is - wait a little while before you upgrade (I had to revert to 1.5.0.7).

Is it possible to set up a PayPal button that would allow one price for the first license purchased, then a lower price for each additional license?
