On multiple drives/partitions I have certain rootfolders, like x:\SomeRootFolderName\ with a lot of subfolders.
At regular intervals I create listings of the subfolder-names (not files..) including size, date/time, path and copy paste them into Excel.

Quite some click here, there select all, copy paste, browse down in Excel, then next drrive,  select/copy/paste etc.

Tried to find a tool/batch file that can do this.
Where I can edit/add the drives-folders myself and when running it generate a listing to clipboard, which i can paste into Excel?

Have looked at SMF
Thread: Create a file list from multiple folders  at  https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=31520.0
but I think it can't generate a folderlisting.

Thanks!

Many thanks for all the good work you are doing!

Yep!

You are so right!
280 characters or something.
Didn't think of it...  :-[

Wish I hadn't posted that last thing.
Made me look so silly.
I didn't write you anything, right?  :)

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Database size
« on: August 26, 2013, 08:44 AM »

a)  already changed the ConfigDir_Default.ini to
CONFIGDIR = N:\ClipboardHelpAndSpellPortable\
exit relaunched

b) changed the folder under backup/maintenance accordingly.

=
SnagIt-26082013 153402.png
=

c) managed to restore a database-backup

d) when I clipboard anything and EXIT CHS then indeed only
N:\ClipboardHelpAndSpellPortable\Backups and
N:\ClipboardHelpAndSpellPortable\Database

are being updated.

e) I noticed that all the files in those N:\ClipboardHelpAndSpellPortable\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database-subfolders, actually, they were identical.
I ran Duplicate File Detective and all sizes/dates/hashes are the same - I delete those - they are small as well, 12,0kb 20kb etc. and july dated.

f) I did not touch the
ClipboardHelpAndSpell.ini
ClipboardHelpAndSpell_UserTools.ini

I guess everything is okay now.

My mistake by adding \database to the configDir.ini   ahum .. :-[

As always many thanks for the help!

CHS is creating a new database every day and then a backup of that database.

http://i528.photobucket.com/albums/dd330/phwul/ClipboardHelpSpel-database-backups-folders-26082013140109_zps08035999.png

and a lot is 'double'

=

I am not sure how to solve this.

Guess, export all clips.
Delete the enitre folder.
Unzip the portable version again there.

It is the portable version and I first had it on another drive.
Thereafter I relocated the entire folder to another partition, created a shortcut on my desktop.

Maybe it got confused somewhere? I don't know.

I checked the CHS folder on the original drive, but no files have been changed since July, so that version could be deleted.

thanks.

p.s.: later, ooops, I thought only a thumbnail would be displayed of the foldertree and one should click on it to view it.
it is stored on Photobucket, as I felt it would be too big here.

Hi Mouser, I coincidentally discovered that each CHS seems to create a new database folder. Is that correct?

My 'settings' are as per below:

=
SnagIt-26082013 124419.png
=

but eh .. the below _really_ indeed what has been created sofar...  :)
(clipboard copy of the path)

N:\ClipboardHelpAndSpellPortable\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database\Database\Backups

Am not sure how to correct this and/or what I have wrongly tagged or untagged.

The backup size, it seems a bit small, compared to database.

Cud you shed some light on this?

N.A.N.Y. 2013 / Re: NANY 2013 Release Find Long Names
« on: August 26, 2013, 04:51 AM »

Who knows...

The day will come that once you start typing the filename, the OS starts counting total pathlength immediately: the characters will switch to orange once you are close to the max. path lengths and you still have NN characters to go, the characters switch to red, indicating that the total path length is too long and you should shorten it... (instead of only being able to determine it later)     :)

@4wd - thanks again. All clear. I did some testing.
The tool is very nice! It helps me a lot, really.

I cannot think of any real improvements.

1) I think it is defaulted to 'Newest' - so when 'Oldest' is selected for one specific folder, the redating of the next folder will be again based on 'Newest', which is perfect (and normal)

2) As far as I can see, it can handle single folders, in Explorer's right window panel.
This means:
- it will not work on 'nested' folders
- and also when selecting a folder in the left window panel (tree).
Maybe this could be an additional 'Note' to the tool (leave that to you)

3) for testing purposes I created a folder1, with 4 subfolders, i.e. upto subfolder5
One way or the other on subfolder5 it does not work.
I know, so many subfolders, it will hardly happen, I created it for testing purposes only.

Tried with another folder under subfolder5  (i.e. subfolder6) but that does not do it either.
I cud redate to 'oldest' date for folders1,2,3,4 and back to newest, no problem.

best regards

Works very nice!!

It also handles multiple folders.

Minor thing: if one selects multiple folders but decide not to do anything, the small adjust time panels remain open.
One has to click cancel one by one.

It is no problem for me!!
Don't get me wrong.

Maybe in case of multiple folders, there cud be something like ; For All ?

Again, if not possible/too complex  leave it as it is!

It is great!

Many many thanks!

Oh oh ... pls... don't get mad, Mouser...

As said, I am very happy with this tool from 4wd.
It is a unique thing: if you would be looking for something like this (GUI based), you won't find it.
There are no attribute changers that can do this (only a very few, using scripting, command prompt things)

Also, I am not a person to offend / annoy anybody.
It is not my nature. Especially not when 4wd has done such a nice job!

Maybe I have chosen the wrong wordings, I don't know.
But pls 4wd / Mouser donot get mad, okay?   :)

=

312
This looks really really  won-der-ful !!

Thank you soo much!
This is quite a unique tool!

When the installer is used, can I then tell where it should be installed?
Based on the earlier version (I was not yet aware of this new release, as I am reading it just now) it would be:

F:\SetFolDate

and with below registry-patch

//
Code: Text [Select]
  1. REGEDIT4
  2.
  3. [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Adjust Timestamp Newest]
  4. [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Adjust Timestamp Newest\command]
  5. @="\"F:\\SetFolDate\\SetFolDate.exe\" \"%1\" /n"
  6. [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Adjust Timestamp Oldest]
  7. [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Adjust Timestamp Oldest\command]
  8. @="\"F:\\F:\SetFolDate\\SetFolDate.exe\" \"%1\" /o"

//

By the way, I always check downloaded files for viruses. Sorry, really no offence meant!
That is what I always do, with any tool.  Pls donot take this personally, okay..??

I do appreciate all the work!

GData and Bitdefender reported: Gen:Trojan.Heur.AutoIT.1
My Norton Internet Security did not report anything, nor my Kaspersky Internet Security, nor AVG Free.

What do you think?

Maybe it is nothing to worry about.

Again, pls donot take it personal!

Thanks again.

Sorry for the delay, I'll get back to you soonest, will be out for a couple of hours.

Oh, by the way, I started with Commodore C64 and later a Commodore PC10 with 2x 5.25" floppy drives.
Think it was 1987. Later I bought a 20MB Seagate (at roughly usd.1350 at the time).
So, not so young anymore...   :(

=

314
Oops! Sorry ...  :-[
I overlooked that.

By the way, would it not be possible to rightclick on a folder, run setfoldate.exe /n from the contextmenu?
i.e. avoiding running from the dos-prompt?

=

315

where do I get the .exe from?

316

Thanks for the feedback!

But eh .. . ??
Sorry I am not a programmer or so.

What do I have to do?

"SetFolDate <folder> </o|/n>"  where?

How to execute the script?

=

317

I have looked a *lot* of 'attribute changers/date changers', but have not found one that can change the parent folder date based on the newest or oldest file in that folder.
When adding/deleting a file to a folder,  the folderdate changes. Same goes for unzipping a file to a folder (new folder created).

Basically this is correct, but not often desired (e.g. when comparing folders with backups), or sorting on folderdates.

There are quite a lot requests for this (search on: set folder date newest file), but there is no userfriendly solution.
Possible solutions maybe scripting and using Powershell, etc.

File/Folder Date Organizer does not have this feature, maybe a new feature to this program?

Thanks

318

I guess that would also be an option.

Was looking more into a minimum of keyboard input, i.e. just tag-tag + okay.

Keyboard input might be necessary in some cases e.g. when users prefers a different separator, like:
\n====\n  or \n****\n  or \n*\n

Anyway, of course that is upto you.

I think a dropdown, like:
standard  (which is preconfigured, i.e. the \n-------\n,)
none        (nothing, glued situation)
linebreak (\n)
custom. . .

most likely is much too complicated programming-wise.

Again, it is a suggestion, leave it to you to accept or not and how... :)

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Database size
« on: August 23, 2013, 03:16 AM »

Thanks.

Yes indeed, it is there.

What I meant is to have the  -contents-  of all (or selected) clips exported to:
a. separate files
b. txt format
c. export files with titles something like "Exported Clip-ddmmyyyy-hhmmss.txt"

Such files can be indexed by a desktop search engine.

Because of the date/time added, in case of exporting again at a later date, CHS will skip or overwrite existing files.

=

320

When merging clips a pop-up window is presented showing the merged clips.
Very nice indeed. One can decide for reverse order, or not.

By default a separator is added.

The separator as such is okay, but maybe it would be an idea to add an option to disable the use of the separator?
Additionally, if the separator is disabled, maybe add another option like 'add linebreaks' , so there is space between the clips, or, alternatively, the clips are 'glued' together.

a) With separator:
1) This is a sample text. Lorem Ipsum. 1234567890.
----------
2) This is a sample text. Lorem Ipsum. 1234567890.
----------
3) This is a sample text. Lorem Ipsum. 1234567890.

b) Without separator, but with linebreaks/space between clips

1) This is a sample text. Lorem Ipsum. 1234567890.

2) This is a sample text. Lorem Ipsum. 1234567890.

3) This is a sample text. Lorem Ipsum. 1234567890.

c)  Without separator, no linebreaks/space between clips

1) This is a sample text. Lorem Ipsum. 1234567890.
2) This is a sample text. Lorem Ipsum. 1234567890.
3) This is a sample text. Lorem Ipsum. 1234567890.

Hi Mouser, well, setting Hotkeys->Capture/View/Spell to CTRL-C and Past last clip as plaintext to CTRL-V, caused CHS to crash repeatedly. Tried it again...

Surely this is not the correct way, I have set them to "None" - no problems anymore.

Thanks a lot Mouser.

Matter is solved.

I was constantly trying to accomplish this in a wrong way....  ahum  :-[
(by selecting the text in CHS and then ctrl-c/ctrl-v)

whereas a number of other options were available.
Sorry to all for the confusion.

Sorry, Geen = other language for 'None'.

Have been playing with the hotkeys for a short while.
-capture/view/spell: none
-paste last clip as plaintext = ctrl-v
result: ctrl-c does not copy anything.

-capture/view/spell: none
-plaste last clip as plaintext = none
result: ctrl-c/ctrl-v works fine

for the time being will leave both hotkeys : none.

"Paste last clip as plaintext" :D

tried that, regretfully CHS crashes.
regretfully.
