Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Slow
« on: January 12, 2014, 02:33 AM »

I just tried, did not want to cut back to 72 hours or so, but took 7 days (168 hours).
Clicked on [Now][Accept]
Waited, exited CHS, launched it.
CHS did compact database (or something)
Waited, exited CHS again, re-launched it.

Norton reported high CPU usage
=
SnagIt-12012014 091802.png
=

Waited, exited again, relaunched again (3rd time)

Did a clip (ctrl-c) on some text, CPU usage went up to around 30% for 7-8 seconds and down to normal
Saved 1-2 seconds I guess.

oh, btw, you wrote
"when you modify your post, there's a list of attached files under the edit box - untick "

eh ... where to 'untick'?

dcwul62, can you check the size of your New group as well and see if you have disabled auto-filing?

Sorry . . ., but how?

==> p.s. Pls allow .wmv and mp4 to be uploaded.
mpg/mov/avi is allowed, but my current screenrecorders either support .wmv (Faststone) or .mp4 (SnagIt), or .swf (Jing)
likely there are other screenrecorders that support mpg/mov/avi, but I donot want to install additional software for just a one-off thing.

I think it is CHS, sorry to say.

When I am using ClipMate the clips  -immediately-  show up in ClipMate.
CHS: CPU usage jumps to about 20-23% (idle 0.02-0.04)
Stays with these 20 for a while and then goes back again.

Am also using Windows 7 x64

Note: the delay is the same without ClipMate and Norton IS protected stopped.

Assume it is not the database getting too big?

That is absolutely NOT normal.
Can you test if the delay happens in all programs or just MS Office?

It is with -anything- I send to clipboard. Temporarily disabled Norton Internet Security (2014), no difference.
Have made a small videoclip. Look at the CPU usage, normally it is 0.02. Have sent it to you by mail.
Uploading .wmv files is not allowed.

You will see it increase to -say- 18-20 or so and then after a about 9-10 sec fall back to normal CPU.
You may see how long this takes.
=

p.s.: meanwhile, how to  DEtach a file from a forum post?

I'd like to know if about 9-10 seconds delay is normal, I mean to say, when at CTRL-C
it takes about 9-10 seconds before this -> arrow button changes back to the normal taskbar-icon.

When quickly copying stuff one after the other, whilst CHS is still trying to save them, clipboard copies are lost.

For example(!) as a test:
have created a Word-document with numbered lines
selected each line
copied them to clipbard one after the other, not waiting until CHS has finished.

1st example

2nd example

Hello again,
Just curious to know, are there any developments?
Thanks

Yes, indeed, I meant the setfoldate (your last question)

Yes, adding things may indeed result in changing the GUI.
I guess that's a kind of thing happening when developing a program :)
It tends to change a lot in the beginning.

well, keeping our fingers crossed for what you will be coming up with one day.

Keep up the good work!

General Software Discussion / Re: What's your preferred File Manager

There is nothing better than Directory Opus.

It isn't cheap, but it's worth every cent. It makes no sense to go into all the program details: they can be found on the GPSoft website.
A 60-day evaluation version is available, you donot want to have anything else after that.
For x64 machines, you always need to use the x64 version. I think the 32bit can't be installed.

If you are stuck with something, their forum gets you an answer to almost everything (Directory Opus wise that is).
You'll get unbelievably fast reply on questions. At least, that is my experience.

MasterSeeker tries to connect sites that seem not to be available anymore.

I checked Everything Search, or Swiftsearch, or NTFS-Search, but don't think they connect with the Internet.

Also when disabling 'Update' options.

Also . . . .
* Donot know if it is possible at all *

Say, you have
1) a folder containing some files
2) the folderdate is correct (as per newest file in that folder) e.g. name: "Taxes 2008"   folderdate: 01-01-2008
3) you create a new folder x:\2008
4) that folder has a today's date
5) you move "Taxes 2008" to x:\2008
6) now you wish to have folder x:\2008 to have the newest date of the -folders-  in x:\2008

How to do that?

Thanks

Just curious to know... any developments?

Did not receive a notification of this one.
One way or the other I donot get notifications, although I did get them in the past.
([X] Notify me of replies  is tagged)

Anyway...

Many thanks !
Will download v2.23.01

Keep up the good work.

Hi 4wd - up front - I am really sorry to get back to you only now.
This is because, one way or the other, I did not get a notification of your last post.
So I still had in mind your:  "Still thinking about it" (oct.21) and all the bushfires out there - so I assumed the idea gradually kind of moved downwards on your 'prioritylist' so to say.
Today, I thought I would check your ideas on this and noticed that you started out developing GUI already!

Did you think of a name? Something like the "Ultimate Attribute Changer"   (UAC)  :) :)

There are a lot of attribute changers out there, but product X is missing things product Y is offering, v.v.

Examples
a. a GUI that shows current dates (created/modified/last accessed) and preview of changes before applying
b. an easy way to synchronize dates after created, or modified, or last accessed
c. a randomize dates option: so, you can updated modified dates with randomized dates and times using  a certain period
d. add your update folderdates of course
e. add date-time (userdefined format) to filenames (not really a 'attribute changer'-thing, but maybe it can be added)
f. update modified dates after dates  or  dates/times  in filename  (a difficult one, I know, am not sure if it is possible, there are a lot of combinations)

Maybe also add
- option to simulate?
and/or
- log changes, so users can easily 'undo' changes

Keep up the good work!

Just gave it a try again.
Copied a few things from the donationcoder site.
Exported it to .csv (90.000+ lines of text)

Maybe this can be solved easily?

217
Looks pretty much the same.
I can select -say- 4 clips, then file export selected clips, the entire database is exported.
In the excelsheet you can see it goes up to close 90.000  rows.

did you try to export selected clips? (not the entire database)

=

219
Right, I was on 2.22.01   :)
tried out exporting with this
ExcerptText,ClipText,CreationDateTime

I don't know ... did you try it out yourself?

Eh ... sorry .. but where?

Hi Mouser
How?
How to set the number of fields?
Database maintenance exports all
File -> Export Listed Clips

=
SnagIt-20112013 110526.png
=

However, the exported text -file shows all fields.
Index,UserKeywords,ClipType,ParentId,ParentGroup,OtherGroups,Application,FullApplicationPath,
WindowTitle,Title,Description,ImageIndex,ExcerptText,ClipText,CreationDateTime,ModificationDateTime,
etc.etc.

Or am I mixing things up now?
Very well possible...  :)

222
Looks good!

Thing is..
my idea was that users should
a. select text
b. click on [G]oogle button

Right now, I think the entire text is used.

Thanks.
Reason for asking to export clipboard text to single files (with date-time) is that I like the text to be indexed.
I use X1 as desktop indexing tool.
Clipmate can export text to single files, the filename are of limited length.

Example a exported filename like:
AMD HD 7950_ MSI R7950 Twin Frozr Boost Edition 3GD5_OC De M.txt

You cud take the headername as well (if there are things like \t \n in the title, then replace those with with a space)
but, add date-time to the name, like
AMD HD 7950_ MSI R7950 Twin Frozr Boost Edition 3GD5_OC De M-18112013 171615.txt

This to be a -new- option.

The date-time will:
a. show the actual date-time of capture, which is, of course, different from the created/modified date when exporting
b. will avoid overwriting - if you have 2 almost identical files, the title will be the same, but the date-time stamp are different
so
AMD HD 7950_ MSI R7950 Twin Frozr Boost Edition 3GD5_OC De M-18112013 171615.txt
AMD HD 7950_ MSI R7950 Twin Frozr Boost Edition 3GD5_OC De M-18112013 171725.txt

Of course the .csv option remains in place.

Pros of single files:
-single .txt files can be launched much faster
(csv: requires Excel to be launched, takes more time, also because over years the file gets bigger and bigger to load)
-Plain text, can be copied directly into another application)
(csv-Excel : you need CHS to strip the formatting)
- can be attached to mail or whatever
(csv: you need to select only the part you wish to forward, clipboard copy into an editor, save that, etc)

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Suggestion: Updated Find and Replace
« on: November 19, 2013, 02:52 AM »
My idea behind the layout was that users who are not acquainted with regular expressions and above all, who are not interested in getting acquainted with it, simply because they will never use it for any other purpose, or simply because it is not 'their cup of tea' so to say, those people will forget what strings to use or how to use it. In my layout, they simply need to tag items.
They cud tag [Tab] and [Carriage Return] and maybe some other symbols altogether and then run it and all this stuff would then be stripped. Oh, there should be a reset button, or ctrl-Z to 'undo' the action.

If you wish to use a webpage with regex examples, I would rrreally suggest to have an very simple example page in the F1-Help, meaning to say, if the user is on that specific CHS find and replace section and hit F1, then it short page to show up (not external, but from CHS Help)
with e.g.
\t  = tab
\n = new line
\r = carriage return
\s = space

and an example like: remove all tabs, new lines and symbols < and > for instance: (<|\n|>|\t)
