As always, many thanks Mouser...
Tiny thing...
The help file:

It does display anything.
Does it have something to do with Norton or MBAM or what...?

Don't have a clue...  :(

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Folder location
« on: October 08, 2014, 07:54 AM »
Eh ...?
Usually the settings are a one-off thing, i.e. when the settings are done from the CHS UI and written to the ini files,
at the next startup CHS will read the ini settings.
Or do I misunderstand you..?
I have some other portable tools with .ini settings, but the ini's are updated / saved from within the application.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Folder location
« on: October 06, 2014, 11:10 AM »

Up front, I know it is set in configdir.ini
That said, I wonder, why folder location isn't in the settings, under options?

Maybe also what is in ConfigDir_Default.ini, like
PORTABLE=TRUE
CONFIGDIR = .

When being 'set' there (=under options), those settings are then written to the ClipboardHelpAndSpell.ini

Or am I saying something weird here ..  :)

@IainB - Many thanks indeed for your reply/suggestion.

Have added 'Notes' to the columns, which definitely is very handy!

As said, sofar I have been using CHS pretty much default, except for minor changes to its settings, like color.
Color settings are about the same as yours by the way: Tree: RGB 255 255 192  - List: 192 255 192 - Preview: 192 255 255.

Sofar the My Notes-thing, well, I haven't paid attention to it.

The rough idea I had was a kind of semi-automated 'filing' of clips taken, with a minimum of manual input, whilst using -optional- settings.
In my example browser clips would -(tag) optionally- be sent to a subfolder named after the domain
or (tag)optionally be sent named after source
and similarly titled (Excerpt) as in the main window.

One could even think of adding a new group (subfolder) under the created/existing folder.

e.g.
\My Notes
...........\DonationCoder  (domainname, tagged option, see above)
.....................\About My Notes (manual input, specifically about this item only)

This, a little with Outlook Notes in mind.
I donot use Notes - one needs to use special plugins to make it work when creating notes from browsers not being Internet Explorer.

One may indeed be using SQL, but as for me and no offense meant,
(I have high respect for those who are familiar with SQL, really I do)
I am afraid, I prefer not to go that way. It is too complicated.

Yes, sure, for guys like you, familiar with SQL, this may be a piece of cake.

I prefer to have things more -say-  GUI-driven.

The Add Note feature is something that has always been in CHS, it's just normally triggered with a hotkey (see hotkey tab).
It's a way to quickly add a hand written note to the database to the group of your choice.
So you're not meant to use the clipboard at all in such a case.

Ooops!  :-[
Please accept my apologies....
(wished I hadn't posted it)

Frankly, I've never known it was there/never used it.

I simply updated CHS to the latest version, then looked at release notes, noticed this [added] feature and wrongly supposed it was indeed new.

tsk tsk tsk ...
Then, on top and making things even worse, thought I came up with something new.. ai!
 :)

Hi Mouser

[Feature] Added "Add note" to right-click CHS tray menu.

Cud you enlighten this a bit?

I assumed..(!) only that the working procedure would be something like:
select text
ctrl-c (send to clipboard)
rightclick taskbar item
Add to note clip

Then the copied text would show up there.
With me the box remains empty.

But then again, I am just guessing!

oh, maybe as a further enhancement: (if the text is from a website) the source url is -optionally- added.

=
a little later... just think of it:
when it is from a website, then add an option to automatically save / add it to a folder named after the domainname?
and website title page?

as said, for me, ideal would be that
1. each clipboard-item is saved as a plain .txt file
2. stripping images, formatting
3. with clipboard-item header as filename
4. adding date -and- time to the name so to avoid clashing because of identical name.

or maybe...maybe as an extra option save the items as .rtf files keeping the formatting
(others might wish to have that?)

That's upto you.

personally I donot need a .csv file

133
Hi Mouser
any developments on this?
Thanks
=

134

thing was that I would like to export each text clip to a single .txt file
adding subject title-date-time of the clip, so these can be indexed by desktop indexing tools,
or combined to bigger .txt files based on subject, etc.

Hi Mouser

Export to single .txt files (adding date-time)

have you been able to solve this one?
(see earlier posts)
There were some issues on exporting clips.
No doubt you may remember>

Mouser, thanks for the update.
have you been able to check the issues reported in posts

- Suggestion: Updated Find and Replace
- Export to single .txt files (adding date-time)
- Export to txt-Import into Excel-some minor flaws

keep up the good work!

Due to this sluggish behaviour I removed KIS again. Used the safe boot way (in the past, when removing KIS I never used the safe boot mode, wasn't aware of it)
After uninstalling KIS (kavremove.exe) and rebooting in normal mode, all services were stopped, personal theme/settings were greyed out, no network, etc.etc.
Spent hours on trying to fix this, but ended up installing WIndows... (could not do a systemrestore, it was disabled, one way or the other)
Great!
Everybody will say this shouldn't be happening and that I am one out of millions and (of course) nobody heard about such issues before...
But fact is, it did
I followed the exact steps as per Kaspersky's support website.

Installed NIS and MBAM and they work fine!

Screenshot Captor / Delete selection
« on: May 29, 2014, 08:51 AM »
I know there has been an earlier thread on about the same subject.
"searching function -delete selection- by Herr BertA"

I think just selecting a part of the capture + delete-button, or context menu delete, or a small [X]  redcross button would be best..?

thanks

@IainB

No problem, don't worry.
I have MBAM now running alongside Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 (yes, removed Norton)
Strikes me that things are running sluggish, Firefox takes quite a while before it is up and running.
Installing anything takes a lot of time.

Made a screenshot of the taskmanager -> resources

MBAM is running pretty much default settings.

A lot of folks here are against Norton.

Up front: No offence meant...  and I respect decisions here, but as for me, I personally I prefer to go for reviews by magazines and websites and
AV-test.

Seems that Kaspersky is performing slightly better than Norton.

I would have sticked to KIS if their service would be better.

if you have installed KIS on a VM and you delete the VM  then 1 license remains active, although in fact it is not used anymore.
or I sell my pc and removed the AV software.

it seems it is difficult for AV-companies to monitor the number of licenses used/active at the same time, meaning to say that I could basically install the software on a number of devices, but only first three (for example) of the license will be protected.

Norton at least allows users to delete a license in such cases, so it can be used for another device.

AFAIK, sofar Kaspersky has no solution for that. They donot reply a support question asking how to proceed in such cases.
Similarly, when asking how to proceed if I wish to upgrade my license from 3-PC to 5-PC, well, they don't care: no reply from Kaspersky support.
Also not on reminders...

Even a separate post asking how long it takes before I may expect a reply remains unreplied.

So, as said, end-users should use the forum, if there is no solution there, bad luck.

Living Room / How to add a file to a PM
« on: May 23, 2014, 07:21 AM »

Up front, I don't know if this is the proper place.
If not, then maybe the administrator would move this post to the right place.

Simple question:
I would like to add a zip file to a pm.
how am I to proceed?
(if! at all possible)

Thanks
=

144
Well, I asked about this and the feedback was that this is the idea of using Norton.
One cud submit files as possible false positives.

Under settings, there is an option 'Ask Me', but Norton sofar never asked me, but rather immediately quarantined the files.

Figure the way of proceeding would be a bit as follows:

The file:
- is marked as malicious and quarantined/removed by Norton
- should be restored
- submitted to Norton as false positive

then wait for feedback.
that may take a while but timebeing you can't use the program.

Some people (not me, you understand) might say that not only is MBAM not an antivirus tool and which seems to run perfectly happily alongside MS Security Essentials or other virus tools, with no conflicts, but also that they would not attach much credence to advice coming from anyone pushing Norton/Symantec, because that product set and brand seem to equate to lock-in, "shonky" and untrustworthy, and so they wouldn't touch any of it with a bargepole. However, I couldn't possibly comment.

On Norton forum it isexplicitely recommended to run MBAM along with Norton, be it the 'free' version.
So, there is nothing against it.
The only issue raised was - how would both products go in case of malicious software, i.e. when both are fighting to remove it...

I have both NIS and KIS, I've been  a KIS-supporter for about 7 years.
But the support is not vice versa.
I support thém, but they donot support mé (except for the forum).
If there is no solution on the forum, then you (or at least *I*) got stuck.
Mails, reminders, even when escalated to mgrs level, well, they don't give a ****
eh... they don't care.
I have also submitted false positives, Norton replies/update their database, Kaspersky, they don't know you and donot respond
I have asked to verify a file, extra-check, Norton replied/confirmed the file is okay, Kaspersky only confirms receipt, that's it, no feedback
I have had a few chat sessions with Norton, they solved the matters without problems (forget about KIS on this point)
Given that both products are 'top-rated' AV-products, well, at one point I stopped using KIS.
Kaspersky, without doubt, is a very good product, but they simply donot offer support on 'personal' level.

Norton also may have some habits I don't really like: I have had some ligitimate software, that was marked as spyware or so.
It was simply removed, no questions asked. Period. If that was the only file you had... what then?

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not meant to be a replacement for antivirus software. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a complementary but essential program which detects and removes zero-day malware and "Malware in the Wild". This includes malicious programs and files, such as virus droppers, worms, trojans, rootkits, dialers, spyware, and rogue applications that many antivirus programs do not detect or cannot fully remove. That being said, there are many infections that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware does not detect or remove which any antivirus software will, such as file infectors. It is important to note that Malwarebytes Anti-Malware works well and should run alongside antivirus software without conflicts. In some rare instances, exclusions may need to be set for your specific antivirus product to achieve the best possible system performance.
=

to be honest and (again) being no expert, I genuinely assumed that having a first class Internet Security  installed, that would be sufficient.
any other AV-product may result into conflicts, for reasons mentioned in my earlier post, which, as said, makes sense and on which I can't find any 'helpdesk-comments' from malwarebytes.org
Maybe I am looking at the wrong place though  :-)

I am ..
-not sure
and
- not an expert :)

but found this linke

where a 'guru' says

quote

A lot of people will tell you that there's no problem running two programs in reat time, figuring what one misses the other will catch.
Well, unfortunately it doesn't always work out that way. They may be ok until malware hits your computer.
What is likely to happen then, is that they'll both fight over the same piece of malware with no-one winning.  Result---Conflict.
Better Norton as your primary real time protection, and using the other scanners purely as passive back ups.

-unquote-

It makes sense to me.

Thanks Ian for the review. Truly appreciate this!

Sometimes it is recommended to run Malwarebytes FREE on adhoc basis as a kind of addition to an existing/running security suite.

It is nót recommended to have Malwarebytes PRO run at the same time with other security software (e.g. having Kaspersky Internet Security Suite or Norton Internet Security Suite (or any other of such tools).

This is because once a virus is detected, either one of the application will try to take care of it at the same time, resulting in a possible conflict.

That is what I have been given to understand.

But all that aside - nice review.

Keep up the good work!

Actually, that is the 2nd thing I look at when selecting a program:

- when was the last update (anything older than 2012, i'll skip)
- what was the last update (if the update is just adding a language-pack, I will not take that date as last one, but rather take the one where at least a few new things were added)
- updates, are they on a regular basis or just once a year
- how to get support: only simple a mail on a support page, nothing more, or forum, email support, etc.
- what is the update / upgrade policy - what are the costs ( I hate 'subscriptions', if at all it is necessary, then it should allow me to pay once a year and get some reduction, get a year but pay for 11 months, but actually I don't have  subscription-software until now. oh except renewal of antivirus software)

Some points I would make:
Berry (NoteFrog author) stated that the NF software is intended to be an Information Manager, rather than a Clipboard Manager. I think the original prototype for it was ClipGuru - a clipboard manager. I thus class it as a PIM (Personal Information Manager). (By comparison, CHS is apparently a Clipboard Manager that started out life as being intended as a PIM.)
NF is a WIP, and will be slowly getting there with each successive release.

Frankly, if it was for me, I would vote for a 'combination' of both.

At least:
-It should be able to capture all clipboard (text, html, images, whatever), recording date-time of capture
-This by adding a 'caption' so I can quickly see what is about
-In case of webpages, it should keep track of the URL
-Lateron I should be able to drag-drop/move all captures to specific locations (left folder tree)
e.g.
\Computer\Software\Microsoft\Office\Word..
\Computer\Hardware\SSDs\ ...

-It should be able to export all its non-image-data (text/html) to single files .txt-files and whilst doing so adding caption-date-time of capture.

This is so the text will be 'searchable' by desktop search tool (like X1)
