Great news! I purchased TextMaker Mobile some months ago, and it is an excellent piece of software (best compatibility with Microsoft Word formats, small and fast, more features than all other word processors for Android, including e.g. track changes, footnotes, endnotes, spell checker in multiple languages, pdf export, all types of fonts embeddable, ....)

Now I will download PlanMaker Mobile and Presentations Mobile too, and for free!

No ads, no obligations. FreeOffice is compared with Open-/LibreOffice much faster and has a much better compatibility with MS Office. SoftMaker Office Mobile for Android used to cost 20 bucks, now they give it away. I can highly recommend downloading it, and at the same time you do something good, because for every download, SoftMaker donates to charity projects. The more downloads, the higher the donation.

My recommendation is SoftMaker FreeOffice. It's a free, full-fledged office suite that only needs 58 MB of space on your hard disc. It has the best compatibility with Microsoft Office of all alternative office suites, you can open and save doc/docx faithfully.  Interface is similar / familiar to that of MS Office 2003 (no ribbons), with several modern extensions, so there's not too much of a learning curve. It's very fast, and, even more important, also very reliable. Give it a try, it's free: freeoffice.com/en

@pilgrim: Yes, it's still available, but it makes more sense to use FreeOffice, because it's import and export filters are new and better. E.g. you can't open docx, xlsx, and pptx files with SMO 2008, but that's no problem with FreeOffice. You find all features and the download link here:

I agree with CoolCat26: FreeOffice is a great free office suite and in many points better than LibreOffice, but still relatively unknown, thanks for the recommendation. Especially it's SoftMaker filters for Microsoft Office formats are fantastic.

@Edvard: Which Linux distribution do you use? Maybe there might be issues with some, but I use Debian and everything works and looks fine. Btw., try to change some settings, maybe that helps:
