Screenshot Captor / Re: Long delay after taking screenshots
« on: December 03, 2022, 10:44 AM »
On my system various directories accumulate under 'Quick Access' in 'This PC' (i.e. file manager). Should be at the top left. But it looks like now that I turned off the Privacy settings as suggested in that link, I no longer accumulate directories in the list and my screenshots save quickly. But I definitely did have long save times in many apps for downloaded files/images, so I may have had more going on.

I have been having that as well after screen shots and just saving files in other programs. I can make it go much faster by removing item from the 'Quick Access' list in 'This PC'. Right click on the various items under Quick Access and remove/unlink them. After that saving is much better. Until that list fills up again.

I just searched and found this and turned off the Quick Access feature, will see if that helps.

Have you tried looking at not restricting it to full weeks? Try 5 or 6 day rotations or 8 days. More work to setup I bet but that would spread the holidays.

Take a look at 'Llama - Location Profiles'  Llama. It learns your area by cells and lets you assign profiles by area. Mine sets my phone on Quiet at work. And it lets you do various actions based on that. Or something like Tasker will give you more control but has a larger learning curve.

The one I use is this: ManicTime

It works great and has a free version which does most of what you are looking for.

Here is one I have been using, I'm very happy with it. http://www.newegg.co...Item=N82E16820171833

It's $66 so it's on the higher price side for 64GB. But it is retractable and and not very wide (handy on crowded laptop USB slots). I keep it in my pocket and I'm way heavier than MilesAhead indicated he weighs  ;D  It's still in great shape now after close to one year. (Me? I need more exercise...)

Here are my CrystalMark scores for it:

           Sequential Read :   192.558 MB/s
          Sequential Write :   168.853 MB/s
         Random Read 512KB :   136.808 MB/s
        Random Write 512KB :     5.353 MB/s
    Random Read 4KB (QD=1) :    10.946 MB/s [  2672.4 IOPS]
   Random Write 4KB (QD=1) :     9.822 MB/s [  2397.9 IOPS]
   Random Read 4KB (QD=32) :     9.689 MB/s [  2365.4 IOPS]
  Random Write 4KB (QD=32) :     4.171 MB/s [  1018.2 IOPS]

General Software Discussion / Re: Photos that spontaneously change

Dang it! The Secret Photo Contrast Cartel has been exposed! Must move on to other dastardly deeds now that the truth is out :>

But seriously, Google Picasa has bitten me a few times when I don't actually save the photo changes. A week or so ago I cropped about 40 pictures but did not do the final save properly and the photos reverted back to the originals somehow.

Not sure what I did exactly. I am happy for Picasa to make backups, just wish it finalized the saves quicker.

Living Room / Re: Google Reader gone
« on: July 01, 2013, 10:46 AM »
One thing I'm finding hard to work around is that I have two gmail accounts I used for Google Reader. One for home feeds and one for work feeds. Unfortunately, the paid RSS readers don't allow for multiple accounts without paying for 2 accounts. So, for me, I would need to purchase two accounts on something like Bazqux/Feedly/etc. Not hard to understand the logic of paying for each account...but it means I would need to pay double and they are monthly/yearly costs.

So I am now focused on using The Old Reader on which I can have multiple accounts and then I can donate to The Old Reader without facing a yearly $29 * 2 = $58 per year for something like Bazqux.

I totally agree with aignes , Servant Salamander is the first thing on any computer I use. It may be deceptive as to it's power compared to other dual-pane managers but it just-plain-works. I have tried others and quickly go back to Salamander.

Screenshot Captor / Re: You need to make a selection first?

Sorry for not checking for any replies after posting my question  :-[

Right after I posted I thought I had it narrowed down to only happening when a certain Java application was running, which was the main thing I was taking screen shots of. I now can't repeat it and captures are working OK. I am as of right now running 2.01.06. Not sure what version I was on before, I update as soon as I notice an update available (usually by seeing it on BetaNews). Yes, I do have the zoom option on still, but it's all working great right now. If you made a change, thank you.

I often use SC during conference calls via NetMeeting to take snapshots of what the meeting is looking at, really helps a lot to remember and reference things later. Much better than trying to take notes.

Screenshot Captor / You need to make a selection first?
« on: October 12, 2005, 12:37 PM »
Hello,

When I do a screen print, either with Print Screen or if I use the task bar right click, I get a message box saying "You need to make a selection first", the box is titled "Information". Screenshot Captor comes up (and does the beep for a capture) but nothing was captured. Is it something I am doing or do I not have SC setup correctly?

Thanks!
