I think many photo managers have a feature like this.

Lightroom for instance has two modes to help you choose from a set of images; first there is survey, which shows you the selected images side by side as large as possible, and then you can remove the ones you do not like one by one. Once you have a small set of good images, you can switch to compare, which shows you two images side by side and lets you zoom to check out details and such. It works by having one image be the current pick, and then you can cycle the other image trough the remaining images, and if you find a better one, you select that as your pick instead.

I think Daminion, which has been discussed here before, also added some kind of compare view recently.

I often check Hacker News, mostly the comments, which are sometimes more insightful than the actual content linked.

(I use hckr news as an interface, because it shows submissions by time, so you can see what was posted since your last visit.)

This post is based on a blog post I wrote recently: Not Quite Monokai

If you feel some of the popular editor color themes are perhaps a bit on the dark side, there is a chance they were originally developed for TextMate, and your Windows editor is not interpreting the colors quite right.

You can look at screenshots here, here, or here, and compare them to how these color themes look in Sublime Text, Atom, Notepad++, and other editors on Windows/Linux.

The difference is due to color spaces^w, where TextMate uses Apple's Generic RGB profile by default, and most Windows editors assume sRGB (see the blog post for more details). When people converted the themes from TextMate to other editors, not many did the proper conversion.

Here are some screenshots comparing a few popular color themes. At the top of each screenshot is what the original TextMate theme looks like in Sublime Text 3 on Windows, and below is how the theme looks when the colors are converted from Generic RGB to sRGB. Notice how the contrast between background and text is more pleasing (at least to me), and the red-ish colors look more in line with the rest.

I switched to simply using google calendar in the browser, because of all the programs I tried, it had the best sync with google calendar .

It looks promising, and I agree using CMake is probably not a bad thing. I've been happy every time I found projects using CMake instead of autotools/autoconf.

One issue with the current version is that it only supports a very specific 32-bit MinGW install (and does not work with the popular MinGW-w64 builds).

Does anyone know if AdGuard allows you to disable this behavior of proxying HTTPS traffic?  I'm currently using Ad Muncher and I don't have any complaints about HTTPS connections having too many ads.  However, I think I'm seeing the writing on the wall for AM, so I figure that I'll be moving to something else at some point and I'd rather that my HTTPS traffic just be left alone since I'm not seeing a problem with it.

It looks like 5.10 added support for disabling https filtering on specific sites, I don't know if there is a way to disable it for all.

YouTube's ads alone have me wanting some sort of https ad control.

I've never had YouTube ads here, and I don't really know why. I don't have an ad-blocker inside Chrome (other than Ghostery) -- perhaps it is because I am loggen in on YouTube?

Now Facebook on the other hand ...

On one hand it is annoying that AM does not filter https, on the other hand from what I understand, AdGuard does it by installing its own certificate and doing a man in the middle on all your https connections, and I don't know how I feel about that.

The thing with Vim is that it requires you are willing to spend the time and effort to learn to work entirely differently than you are used to. It may be able to do most anything you need, but actually doing it may be pretty hard until you spend the time learning how (which can be said about all editors, but in Vims case there is more learning involved).

I would try installing Sublime Text 3 if I were you. The trial does not have a time limit, all you get is a popup every now and then when saving. It works just the same on Linux as it does on Windows, and it is a very good text editor.

I probably wouldn't buy it though, before you feel confident development is still ongoing.

I just got my first call from someone who had gotten dual-bitten by a password logging bot plus (to my amazement) some ransomware.

She was running a (mostly) updated copy of Win7x64 along with MS Security Essentials.

The problem is you can't draw any more elaborate conclusions than that MSE did not stop this threat. For all we know, a commercial protection might have been equally useless.

I suppose you could always send a query to their sales department and ask if you're that curious about who won it. But with only a single copy up for grabs I don't think there's much financial incentive for the dev to be playing games over it.

Just for the record, the download links given so far (v1.1 and v1.2) appear to be for versions of Roboto before the re-design mentioned in the article (check the R K and 1 glyphs for instance).

To be fair, once you have opened a project folder (which takes a while), it does works reasonably well. The vcs integration is a nice feature.

Unfortunately it does not support bitmap fonts .
