Almost like handwriting PostScript, except without the reverse polish notation :D.

The first edition of Programming in Lua is available free online, and is still a good resource when learning the language.

I enjoy taking pictures of flowers, and some of them end up on 500px:

There are patch generators that could do something similar, but I think using an inno setup installer to do it is a good idea -- it is likely to be left alone by most AV software.

Non-Windows Software / Re: Looking for a good Android launcher
« on: December 07, 2014, 04:17 AM »
I used Nova launcher for years and it is very nice and customizable, but I switched to Smart Launcher because I liked the much more simplistic UI. It's still quite sleek, and the app drawer is categorized.

I don't think it does all you mention, but might be worth a look .

Years ago on Win2K, I used a pretty simple one called ATnotes. It has been discontinued since 2005 by the looks of it, but it may still work.

If you do not need them visible on your desktop at all times, you could also consider something like CintaNotes, which is more of a minimalistic note manager with search and clipping.

General Software Discussion / Re: VMWare Player 7.0 Released
« on: December 03, 2014, 03:36 AM »
I switched to VirtualBox back when my VMware 5 license expired. I did not want to keep paying the upgrade costs when there was a free alternative that worked well enough.

There were some minor differences in features and speed, but for my use it really didn't matter.

Here are a few I noticed:

  • Macrium Reflect 25% off (link)
  • Adguard 30% off (link)
  • Pragmatic Bookshelf 50% off ebooks (link)
  • CrashPlan ~30% off(link)

Any other deals on stuff we discuss here on DonationCoder? :-*

Personally I think the way software patents are handled is a detriment to advancing software development, but I think many people take the risk because it is a relatively low risk in many cases.

Unless you become a huge success, there isn't enough money to go for that it is worth the cost of litigation. Until that happens, I think you are more likely to be targeted by a larger player in the field simply to shut down the competition.

And open source projects with many developers in different countries are hard to target, and I think it is far more likely you will get the site taken down instead of an actual lawsuit.

^ It's a little more tricky than it looks.

Basically, under this wording, if you are using .NET and you ever assert an IP claim against Microsoft for any reason, you automatically become a provable infringer on Microsoft’s IP because their "personal promise" is automatically withdrawn. So in short,: use .NET, try to sue us, and you're now an infringer.

It says "by any covered code", so I do not understand it as any legal action against MS on anything. It sounds a lot like the patent clause in the Apache license.

It looks like the GPLv3 has something similar as well.

General Software Discussion / Re: What's your preferred File Manager
« on: November 10, 2014, 01:24 AM »
It is strange that it defaults to something that looks like a Win95 app. But perhaps that is because it still supports every OS back to Win95 (and there is even a 16-bit version available for Win3.1). But it would be nice if it included a couple of styles that looked a bit more modern.

To me the functionality is more important though, and the standard orthogonal file manager interface with NC compatible keyboard shortcuts :-[.

And the conclusion:

The Winner
In my particular case, “Dina” is the best.

Dina is, of course, created by long-time DonationCoder member Jibz, and can be found here: https://www.donation...m/Software/Jibz/Dina

Wow, I am really happy to see Dina doing so well :-*.

Automagic is similar to Tasker (but has an interesting flow designer to build programs) and can also do things like that. Llama has the advantage of being free though.

Just wanted to note that I have used ExportSnapshot along with BackupHelper without any issues for the past five months.

Living Room / Re: Google's new Inbox powered by Gmail
« on: October 24, 2014, 03:25 PM »
I agree with Inbox being a silly name. It looks like it's primarily a mobile app (there is even an iphone version), so perhaps that is part of the reason it doesn't support all browsers.

Just speculating :-[.

I seem to remember some discussion about the Windows version of Scrievener being left behind feature-wise compared to the Mac version?
