Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Desk & Archive v2.0
« on: July 21, 2013, 07:42 AM »
I've got great responses from this forum when I released the first version of my software, so I am glad to announce the next version.

Desk & Archive is the application I have created because I was not satisfied how current file managers work in the business environment. Short description for the software is:

Desk & Archive is a file manager built with productivity in mind. It provides tools to manage office documents and personal workflow efficiently.

Application is built on a personal experience from the workplace. It is tested and crafted in a real environment with the aim to provide value to business users.

Application contains following features:
- It is designed as a place to start a work - turn any document into the always available template; create a document based on the previous work or start from an empty document.
- Track work easily with Smart tags – tagging allows easy categorization, but Smart tags means three more things:  tag reminders, tag snoozing and tag chain.
- Improved general operations – many small and useful improvements in copy & paste, drag & drop, rename and other everyday tasks.
- Tools to keep the Desk clean – one click to move completed items to the archive; Launch Bar for starting programs and Pinned folders to open folders from application instead from your already burdened Desk.
- Flexible views – Item lists allow flexible viewing of items across the tags and folders; Ad hoc items lists means you can create such lists on the fly, and Filter panel allows easy filtering of the items in the current view.
- Easy navigation – no need to open and close tabs with History that gets automatically tabbed; locations for copy & paste are easily available in Contextual folders
- Keyboard and mouse improvements – type to navigate quickly; easy multiple selection with the mouse
- Great previews and many other small but handy features.
Desk & Archive is available on http://www.deskandarchive.com. You can find demo videos in features section.

Also, if you have bought license for v1.0, it can be used for v2.0 too!

Maybe it might be useful info that portable version has been released, you can download it on:
http://www.deskandarchive.com/programs/Desk&ArchivePortable.zip

It is also not just made portable, but accommodated to be used on portable drive (more info on my blog post at: http://www.deskandarchive.com/blog/88-desk-a-archive-portable)

Also, for those who prefer desktop version, in version 1.0.2 new licensing mode is available which allows to run application on as many computers as you like, as long as only one instance is running.

Also, information that beta versions were free for use in limited time period (till the end of this year), so it was listed as Freeware on sites. It had notification on start that clears this.

I think a demo video would go a long way towards encouraging people to buy or try it.
Currently there is an independent video review:

I have plans to make my own videos in foreseeable future, thanks for suggestion.

Desk & Archive is very intuitive, im having some issues but Ivan is quite responsive. Great support :)
BTW, just to note that I am answering emails every day, but I have other half time job (at least till this doesn't start to bring revenues so that I can dedicate full time to all the stuff), so I might not be able to react on everything immediately, but I do take note on everything and do as fast as I can.

I must say I don't have exact answer right now.

Program data cannot be portable, though it makes a lot sense, as your bookmarks should be different for different computers, I guess, so it might not be a problem.

I am unsure if it would run properly from USB flash (have to test it for that), but it should from USB hard disk.

However, at this point the biggest problem would be licensing, as it is licensed per computer. And I guess it doesn't make sense to license each computer for portable application. I might try some solution so that it is licensed for USB drive, but it requires some work and testing, so I can't say when it might be available or even that it will be available, for now.

But it is a very good idea, thanks for the comment.
