Have to agree with most of the others in saying that the biggest obstacle imo holding FARR back from getting the attention it deserves is that it is not as intuitive or accessible as some of the other launchers on that list. Just doesnt have the same "sex appeal" :P even though it is farr more powerful. As i mentioned in another thread i think adding the following features to FARR and having it use the Large icon slide by default with only location as the other row would help.

With regards to the interface i think one nice option would be to add an icon to the left of the query box right above the search results which would reflect the icon from the first search result. Taking that one step further you could also display the name from the first result as well in a different color/font perhaps. I think this allows you visually to identify the result you are looking for quicker. I see this as a middle ground between using the small icon report, which i use as i prefer having more results with a larger query font, and the large icon slide.

Would it be possible to add another set of "Report Columns" options in the display tab for the large icon slide display style. This way you would have a "Report Columns" for each display style and could specify different columns to use for each style. To be more accurate it would probably be a "Report Columns" for the small icon report and "Report Rows" for the large icon slide style. I think this would work well especially with the functionality to automatically switch display styles. I find myself using the large icons for regular app launching etc where i wouldnt normally need to view a lot of the other columns however when it automatically switches to the small icon report for dir results as well as a lot of the plugin results i would like to see the other columns.

Likewise it would be great if in the Fonts tab you could have the option to set the font/size for the other rows besides the "Name" row when using the large icon style. Being able to change the fonts would imo be very helpful in making the "Name" row more prominent and distinguishable from any other rows the user has specified.

Lastly an improved help file would be good although some screencasts would be A LOT better.
Keep up the great work though Mouser and i cant wait for the next release  ;)

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Quick plugin question

Two more plugin requests:

1) a plugin that can run an exe with commandline parameters and capture its stdout and show it in results memo view (note that users could use this with the explicit dll invocation technique to make their own alias configurations that use your dll to run any commandline program and capture the output).

2) a plugin that can fetch a web page and then extract text from the webpage (using a regex mask) and display text (stripped of html) as farr result memo.  (again this should use the explicit dll invocation technique to let people configure their own aliases that fetch different pages and use different regex matches).  The uses for this one are practically unlimited.

note: i guess that #1 might benefit from a regex mask as well, making these two plugins 95% identical.

Wow #2 would be amazing  :o :o  Any progress on that front. As you say the uses for this, combined with the html viewer you mentioned in another thread, would be practically limitless. I wouldnt think it necessary to reinvent the wheel with a full browser inside farr however a scaled down html mode would be great. I can imagine using this for quick wiki searches, reviews, quick weather updates etc etc where all you need is some specific info from a html page without having the need to browse and follow links. It actually shouldnt be that hard to do as long as FARR could support html output :D

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Quick plugin question

On a related note i am having trouble getting another alias to work. I am trying to create an alias to emulate typing C:\ and then being able to filter results as i continue to type. For example my alias name is  "Browse" with the result being "Browse C Drive | dosearch C:\".

My aim is to be able to start typing Brow.. then hit <tab> and than it should show all folders in my C: drive at which point i could start typing Progr... and it would filter to Program Files and i could hit enter to open that folder. However after i hit tab to autocomplete the alias and it returns all the folders but when i continue typing to filter the results it doesnt work.

Any ideas?

jpgrosen tku for this amazing plugin  :o

Is there any way however to use this with my other web searches? For example say i wanted to search imdb or metacritic for a movie title. You could use google suggest to find the title and consequently replace the googe search string the imdb one using the title suggested? I think this would be a really powerful addition to this plugin. I often find that google is better at finding what i am looking for than i am  ;D

P.S. I also noticed that this plugin does not rank the search results by the number of results found. Is there a way to change this?

thx
