Hmm... confirm that it doesn't display your test file correctly.

BUT - I tried drawing 6 rectangles in approximately the right places and did a preview of the output and it worked! Each slide on its own page.

With a bit more care, this could be good enough?

Personally I use Xara Designer for almost all graphic / photo tasks.

LifeHacker are currently running a "what is the best Photoshop replacement" thread, which may throw up some interesting suggestions.
