Yesterday they bought SketchUp. Difficult to know whether that is a good thing or not... I really hope they don't mess up what is a superb product.

Ditto... FaRR gets used every day on my 2 machines - I have scrapped the Start menu and all other launchers.

Looking forward to v2

Living Room / Re: Best Video Player there is
« on: January 18, 2006, 10:53 AM »
I use Media Player Classic for dowwloaded video clips and PowerDVD for rented DVDs.  Have both the Real Alternative and Quicktime Alternative installed so as to avoid both products.

Since the release of Find&RunRobot all launchbars have gone from my PC, and I just can't see a need for them anymore.

A client has sent me several hundred MP3 which are all untagged and have the file names in the format Track001.mp3

They also included an index of the files as a PDF file, which contains a table laid out as follows...

Track | Sound  | Duration | Description
001   | 1      | 0:32     | Various Finger clicks
002   | 1      | 0:10     | Cat miaow
etc...

Is there any tool sophisticated enough to rename the tracks with their Track number and Description?

To complicate matters further some Tracks contain multiple sounds...

Track | Sound  | Duration | Description
013   | 1      | 0:59     | Hiss (close-up)
013   | 2      |          | Hiss (muffled)

Thanks for help in advance,

Ampa

No horror stories... but I found it hard to make it worth the money.  Guess that I am too busy to watch DVDs all the time!

Indeed - both very valuable members, so nice to see them get some public recognition :)

Have been playing this for a couple of years now and still love it.  StepMania is far better that the Official Dance Dance Revolution game for the PC, and can easily be configured for any system - plenty of eyecandy if your machine can handle the load.

The obvious problem is that it doesn't come with any songs! But a little searching will soon turn up many to choose from, both from the original arcade games and fan routines to just about any song you can imagine.

I have two soft dancemats (grabbed them in a sale at Dixons for £5 each) and use a twin Playstation to USB convertor to connect them to my PC (got that from eBay).  Be warned however that the soft mats do not last that long before the vinyl starts to split and the buttons loose some of their responsiveness. RedOctane do make far superious solid mats, but the price hike is too much for the occasional user.  Still you could always make your own...

General Software Discussion / Re: fucking site it's a rip offf
« on: October 27, 2005, 01:03 PM »
Perhaps we are all misinterpreting this deep and meaningful post...

The "fucking site" mentioned must refer to one of the many sites available online that serve tasteful erotic photographs, but the one in question is evidently poor value for money.

The second point, that "thiefs" [sic] should "go to hell", is a fair although harsh sentiment regarding the fate of all those who thieve for a living.

I should like to welcome fw190a to DonationCoder.com and assure him/her that this site is superb value for money (it is free, unless you choose to donate) though you may be disappointed by the lack of nudity to be found here.

Skrommel's Software / MouseActivate at left hand screen edge.
« on: October 10, 2005, 10:42 AM »
It is probably a bad habit of mine, but I often throw the mouse pointer to the left-hand screen edge, and at present MouseActivate interprets this as a command to put the current window to the back!

How can I disable this feature as I find it a hindrance not a help?

Checked the ini file but there seems to be no option there.

Find And Run Robot / Numeric Keypad
« on: October 07, 2005, 04:05 AM »
Perhaps I have overlooked a simple option somewhere in the preferences, but recent releases of F&RR seem not to accept item selection from the numeric keypad (a function that I found most speedy when using the mouse).

If this has been removed, may I ask what the reasoning behind the decision was? And whether it can be reinstated.

Ampa

Yippee! Works now :)

Sorted my jumbled list for me in no time.

Thanks for the update, Ampa.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Do you want to see F&R with optional skins?
« on: September 09, 2005, 06:14 AM »
Got to say that the main draw will always be the speed of launching apps, so anything that interferes with that (which I imagine skins must) is a 'NO'

Hmm... Tried this out today as I had the perfect job for the tool (so to speak)... A list of addresses, some of which were in CAPS, some lower and some mixed.

But - unless I am using the tool incorrectly, it didn't function... Or at least certain options didn't work.

TeStInG  <- here is my test word (copied to each line below - then processed by CAPshift v1.2)
TeStInG <- upper case - FAILS
TeStInG <- lower case - FAILS
TeStInG <- title case - FAILS
tEsTiNg <- invert case - WORKS!

In each failure, it appears that the paste is taking place, but the pasted text has not been altered.

Perhaps this is a conflict with something else running on my system? Or specific to Opera (the application in which I am typing)?

Will report back with any discoveries!

General Software Discussion / [Query] Vector to DWG or DXF
« on: August 18, 2005, 08:44 PM »
I use Xara X1 as my vector graphics program of choice... But it doesn't output in a format that I can import into my 3d design package (SketchUp). So I am looking for a freeware converter that will go from on of the following...

.eps
.ai
.wmf
.xar

To...

.dwg
.dxf
.3ds
.dem
.ddf

Can anyone help?

Ampa

545
At present I am using IZarc - generally satisfied, though there is an annoying bug with drag and drop (It doesn't extract subdirectories!)

Worth a look though as it is freeware and supports many formats.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Coming soon.. Arrows, callouts, textboxes
« on: August 13, 2005, 09:18 AM »
What format do you want the arrows and call outs to be in? Vector or Raster?

If no free clipart is forthcoming, it would be no problem to whip some up.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Feature Request Thread
« on: July 20, 2005, 12:57 PM »
Mouser, was browsing today and came across Stick which looks like an interesting application - but I suspect falls in to the category of trying to do too much.  Still watch the video for a lesson in tutorials, and configurability!

Anyway... The preview screen shot of the Launcher facility shows an interesting feature - Time since last launch.  It occurred to me that this may well be a feature that has a place in F&R both for executables and data files.  Perhaps an option to scale extra weighting given to more recently used files?

Just a thought :)

Keep up the great work.

Ampa

PS Not sure if I should be posting this here or in Feature requests v2 ?!

Edit: Can't spell own name - Doh!

548
OK now I am impressed.  This last script does indeed seem to be an ideal solution.

But it is not only the fact that you provided a solution, but that you thought the problem through and made a better product than I originally requested.

Ampa

549
Thanks skrommel for the AutoHotkey scripts... Shall try out the gentler version this evening.

As for my original question (reversal of accidental Caps Locked text) I am currently trying out As-U-Type by Fanix Software.  This is an advanced OS level real-time spell checker and text expander, which also has the accidental Caps Lock tool in built.

So far am very impressed by the utility, but the trial is only 30 days (?) and then registration is a tad expensive at $49.95 !!

Finished Programs / True X-Mouse Gizmo crashes Opera v8
« on: July 19, 2005, 11:42 AM »
Have been playing with True X-Mouse for a week or so now, and have got very used to the behaviour that it adds - I really think that it does smooth window management and speed up clipboard usage considerably. BUT I believe that it causes serious stability issues with Opera, my webbrowser of choice.

With True X-Mouse running Opera will crash straight to desktop when opening the Save Download dialog, and when opening multiple bookmarks, by dragging a folder of shortcuts into the main window area.

Can anyone else confirm this behaviour?

I have not yet tried adding Opera to the exclusion list within True X-Mouse to see whether this alleviates the problem, at the expense of lost functionality.
