Hate the new skin... went straight back to the old one.

Living Room / Re: Opera 9.5
« on: July 08, 2008, 06:31 AM »
anyone having problems logging into gmail account using Opera (9.51) ?
It just goes back to unfilled page.

YES! Exact same issue here. In fact it has logged in successfully... once it has returned you to the unfilled page, enter the URL in the address bar and it will take you to your inbox.

My install is an upgrade from 9.27

I don't have the issue on my partner's laptop or my mum's PC, both of which were upgraded in the same manner.

No solution found so far.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Character Table
« on: May 25, 2008, 06:54 AM »
Seems like this plugin/addon is not on the farr addon page.

More curious to me is why many of the FARR plugins are not on dcUpdater - surely the whole purpose of the updater software is to keep the plugins up-to-date since they change frequently, and also to allow users to see the (growing) range of plugins available?

I did have a play with WikidPad. And while I would prefer an open source option...

Err... WikidPad IS Open Source (and has been for a long time).

wikidPad is now open source. Visit the project homepage at

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Mini-Review of FileBoss

Pricing Scheme:   49.99 for Single-User license.**

The 49.99 is US$ incase anyone was curious which equates to £25 (for Brits) or E31.66 (for Europeans) or 2,136 Indian rupees.

Other than that (small) oversight, a nice mini-review, and great to see the author drop by too :)

Skrommel's Software / Re: CAPshift - Suggestions
« on: May 19, 2008, 05:24 PM »
Is there any reason why you couldn't combine the two yourself?

Scrommel provides the source script, so you should be able to copy and paste the two together (might require a tiny bit of tweaking), compile with AHK, and hey-presto job done.

I have taken the liberty of re-posting this question on Xara's TalkGraphics forum where the real experts will nodoubt reveal all!

My initial guess is that Magix Xtreme is a re-badged version of Xara Xtreme (v3.2 NOT the new v4, and not Pro) with the addition of their own Magix Photo Editor in place of Xara Photo Editor.

Living Room / Re: What to do when you receive bootleg videos?

I'd say YES, eBay should know that the seller is trading in pirated / stolen goods. The seller is being dishonest to you the customer, and profiting from goods that they have no right to sell.

Have PMed you both.

Also I solemnly promise to update this thread with a bit of news... very soon!

But not tonight... too tired.

Ah-ha! The perfect test for...

Answer: It is all of us - not just you.

Yes, I was on-topic :)

Might try reinstalling. Thanks for the preview.

Update: Repaired and Uninstalled / Reinstalled and still get no functionality :(

Installed it, and the new tab appears in Word and Excel, but I get no functionality!

I type in the input box (eg "align") and then hit enter OR click the search icon (magnifying glass) and nothing happens!

I tried running the tutorial... it enters text in the input box, and then freezes. After 30 seconds it reports that an error has occured and suggests that I exit!

Not very impressive  >:(

General Software Discussion / Re: Your fav' audio CD burner?
« on: May 07, 2008, 05:55 AM »
nothing compares to Easy CD-DA Extractor, its like the imgburn of audio CDs

Remember that imgBurn now does audio CDs!

Have you tried looking at the drive with a partition manager? It could be that, for some reason, the partition size has been truncated.

Perhaps not - but it is another angle to try :)

General Software Discussion / Re: Xara Xtreme 4 and Pro 4 released
« on: April 24, 2008, 05:11 PM »
The HTML export is a mixed blessing, as with all tools that automate HTML/CSS coding, it is quick and easy, but at the expense of quality. Having said that, it seems to do a better job than many other applications.

For my money the best new feature of Xara 4 is the text repel. The incorporation of Xara 3D as the extrude tool is not terribly interesting once you've toyed with it for 5 minutes. It is too limited in scope, and doesn't create a true vector output if you try to convert to editable shapes, but instead a clipped bitmap.

The photo tool is nice and certainly more convenient that XPE (the previously incorporated bitmap editor) but it adds no new functionality.

I am sad that there have been no new vector tools in any of the last major updates, Inkscape, Corel and Illustrator all have vector tools that Xara does not, but I do still stick with Xara for all my design needs, because the user interface is still second to none - it is just so darned fast and intuitive.

This would be a nice feature, if it is easy enough to achieve?

Living Room / Re: Earthquake
« on: April 18, 2008, 07:30 AM »
I've experienced 3 earthquakes, two in the UK and one in Japan.

It is a very disorienting sensation... you know that something just moved, but because everything moves the motion doesn't add up with what your eyes see.

AND... here is a nice page with a CSS Accordion that you could modify to your needs.

Save the source file for the page, and then edit the file with your favourite text editor :)

I am assuming you are using WinXP (if you are using Vista the process will be a little different and someone else will have to advise)...

Active Desktop takes a web page and displays it on your windows desktop. This allows you to have any element that could appear as a web page in place of a static wallpaper. To get the idea I suggest you try it out for yourself...

1) Right click on your desktop and choose 'Properties'
2) Go to the 'Desktop' tab
3) Click 'Customize Desktop'
4) Go to the 'Web' tab
5) Click 'New' and enter ""
6) Click 'OK' on all three dialogs

If all has gone well you should now have a small Google webpage embedded in your desktop, which can be resized and positioned to your liking.

Read more about Active Desktop in the Microsoft KB

So... if you had a webpage of the information that you require (names numbers etc) you can embed it into the desktop in the same way.

Now that's a much better idea...

Use active desktop (or whatever it is now called) to embed an html page onto the desktop.

How about using something javascript-y like an accordion to show the relevant section?

I don't have the full answer... but it does sound like something one of the widget engines would be suitable for.

I remember trying AveDesk some time ago (when version 1.3 came out) and I think it could do this sort of thing without too much fiddling.

Other widget engines might include those by...

I collect anatomy and art books

I hope you mean books on anatomy rather than bits of anatomy!

I collect: play scripts and debt!

I used to collect: toy soldiers, button hooks, shoe horns... what a sad childhood I had!
