First, not sure if my request is suitable for here - please tell me if this is not of any general interest, too boring or too complicated.

My little feature, program or coding snack request is as follows:

I have two small xls files that contain output from different sources. While the underlying transactions are the same, I can't easily compare the files to see if any entry is only appearing in one file. I am looking for a simple procedure to compare the data in file 1 with the data in file 2 and highlight or flag or create an output file of any record that is not in both files.
Having studied the files, the only common information in both files is 1) an amount and 2) a time stamp.  Problem is that the amounts are not unique and the timestamps between file 1 and file 2 are not identical but vary by up to 1-2 minutes. So any comparison would have to be based on a) amount being identical and timestamp being within 2 minutes for the record in question.
I attach two files as samples ( some columns have been cleared or modified for privacy reasons) but these columns should be ignored anyway as they do not appear in both files. In my files two transactions are appearing only in the AOE13 File namely Order ID 40101 and 40103 - these are the files I would like to see flagged or similar. Sorry but since I can't upload xls files, I chose jpg for illustration.

I had a look at the site but find the info rather thin  :o

How does it work? Does it just look for the file names or can you search for text inside the files? Does it allow for search across networked drives?

I am using Copernic (the old version 1.7) which works very well for me. The later versions did not allow for networked drives or had other issues. I am curious to know if Agent Ransack improves on that but the website does not provide enough info.

Find And Run Robot / Re: problem with 2.75.0.1
« on: August 15, 2009, 11:00 PM »
Thanks Mouser - I tried again and was very patient (went away to watch TV) but by the time I came back the past launch history was shown normally. I then looked through the records within the Gui and and in the ini.file but did not see anything noteworthy. I decided to delete the records one by one (in the Gui) and the next time I rebooted, FARR was as responsive as usual. Strangely though my History was back and everything is there.  ;D

Find And Run Robot / problem with 2.75.0.1
« on: August 15, 2009, 08:21 AM »
Just upgraded to the latest version but seem to encounter problems. When I try to launch FARR the usual window opens but then it goes into "retrieving past launch history" and gets stuck. Nothing more happens. If I try to type anything, FARR becomes non-responsive and I have to kill it with taskmanager. The window btw does not have the usual X in the corner to close it either.
Any suggestions?

Find And Run Robot / Backdoor Malware
« on: November 15, 2008, 07:07 PM »
I have been using Find and Run for a few years now and think it's a great program. I am not updating each time an update comes out, my experience is sometimes when things work for you, don't mess with them.
Still, I do come back regularly to see if I am missing something and eventually will look for the upgrade.

Just wondering why the current version shows us with some alerts on Jotti or Virustotal: Backdoor.XiaoBird.42 (paranoid heuristics) (probable variant) - I assume this is a FP but is this something that could be cleared up with VBA?

 Strange - and I thought it was in public beta since the beginning of this year or even longer?  :tellme:
I feel I am the only one waiting for final release version ;D

Find And Run Robot / Re: Public release in august ?
« on: October 06, 2007, 02:15 AM »
i think everyone is agreed now that there should be a feature freeze, which basically means my efforts now will be going into stability and bugfixing, so we should have a public release at the very very latest march 7.

This was on 21. February - is there ever a public release of the updated FARR?  I fully realise that most people here on the board are more than happy to play with beta releases but there are still some users that a) do not want to go through a thread that is 35 pages long to learn about all the changes of FARR compared to the last version and b) prefer to be on the "safer" side with fully tested versions.
My impression is that FARR is becoming an endless Beta Version with constant changes.

Find And Run Robot / Any Update on final release?
« on: June 07, 2007, 02:36 AM »
Just wondering if there is any update on a final release version?  8) This was originally planned for earlier this year but was obviously postponed for new features and bug fixes. I am happy   :) with my "old" version which is working fine but don't want to miss out on improvements assuming the release is stable and I can figure out what the improvements are.
I gave up following the alpha thread a long time ago as it seemed to me that the goalpost was constantly shifting. :-\

34
but maybe it's time to waive those for now, and just fix any remaining bugs for a full release? New features could always be added later.

I agree, there is always room for further improvement but if you don't have a public release once in a while, you end up having a permanent beta  :o

What happened to the public release?  :o

Mouser, I have been following this thread with some interest but given the constant changes and improvements usually just look at the headlines. I am just wondering if you have any rough idea when you may come up with a new "final" release.
I am using 1.13.02 and while I am happy to use it, I am always to keen on an improved version. However, I am not a beta or alpha tester, so I rather wait for the bugs to be eliminated by others.  I appreciate that this is what has been happening here over the last few months but it appears a bit that everyone is so excited about new features and suggestions that FARR is becoming a constantly changing and improved beast, though never any closer to a final release for the timid

Find And Run Robot / Re: New FARR v2 Icon Design Needed
« on: December 21, 2006, 12:03 AM »
I don't want to be a spoil sport but in my book an icon should stand out, be striking. While the design above may be nice (if you zoom), under normal circumstances it's completely non-descript. Looking at my current taskbar, all the icons shown are quite distinct including the current "running man". Don't change for the sake of changing if it is not an improvement.

Personally I rather like the current symbol/icon and always wonder why Outpost chooses a questionmark. I am using OP and I am happy with it. However, from a firewall I primarily expect certainty and reassurance , not sure if the questionmark is the best symbol for this.  :)

Find And Run Robot / Re: Open File - Security Warning
« on: November 30, 2006, 12:32 AM »
I started to receive such a warning when trying to open an Access file via the network - this only started after upgrading to IE 7.  Did not happen before and at least in my case I can click open and it works then.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Performance Update V1.11
« on: October 05, 2006, 02:08 AM »
How much of a Beta is this version. I am running 1.0905 and am quite happy, though can't help watching here to see what improvements are coming. I usually wait for an official release before updating, afraid I may mess up too many things.
Any advice as I am tempted to switch?

Find And Run Robot / how to use alias / cmd lock pc
« on: August 19, 2006, 11:44 PM »
I would like to use FA to activate a screensaver on command (when I leave my pc) and have this screensaver password protect my pc.
Noticing in FA  under alias a cmd function that allows for the activation of the screensaver and also a function to lock pc. Can someone please tell me
a) what exactly happens when I use : lock PC | c:\windows\nircmd.exe lockws. I am a bit too scared to test it not knowing if I can unlock it again.
b) assuming that this allows me to lock my pc, how to combine this with my screensaver command and where I would have to set up the lock and unlock commands.

   8)

:D just tried it and I am really amazed - there is so much more to discover with this program, guess I need a holiday to find the time to try everything  :o
I will try to read more on this forum, I am sure this should help a lot too :)

I understand the problem with aliases, the regular expressions feature can scare people away. On the other hand, it's the most powerful feature about it!

I wish I would understand what you are doing :(
I installed FARR two days ago and have set various alias groups mainly to find and launch files I often use. This is pretty good but I am very keen on understanding your more sophisticated tricks.  If I set up the opera search as per your screenshoot, nothing happens. Besides, I don't quite understand how and where you are inputting the search string.
If my first input is opera (to look for the alias of Opera), how and where do I enter the actual term I am looking for.
Sorry if I am not very clear.  :-[

Find And Run Robot / Re: Best Feature
« on: July 03, 2006, 08:34 PM »
I am used to open some of my "favourite" files via the office short cut bar. However there are limitations as to how many files you want to put in there. The alias function in FARR is great as it gives me so many more options - I am only scraping on the surface so far but I am greatly impressed.

Find And Run Robot / Best Feature
« on: July 01, 2006, 11:15 PM »
I just downloaded FARR and at this point just play around with it. I am impressed with how fast and responsive it is and can see many ways of configuring it.
As it also seems a bit overwhelming, I am just wondering what other users feel to be the most important feature they use.
I know from other software that often features and tricks are somewhat hidden and I often discover some of the best gems only long after having used the program by reading the relevant forums. Obviously everyone has different criteria, but any comments would help me to quickly find the "goodies" that may not be so obvious when just reading the helpfile.
