Mouser, thanks for your info - that indeed is the setting I did not see.  :)

A while ago I noticed that each time after taking a screenshot not only the expected popup for instructions (print/save) came up but subsequently also windows explorer started with focus on the folder with the saved image.
I am not aware of having made any changes and don't remember this being the case before but can't figure out how to prevent that from happening. There is probably a setting somewhere to deal with that but I am too stupid to find it.

Sorry Mouser and Apankrat for quoting the email address - I thought it was some other feature you guys were using to reduced spam or similar. I even tried to look up the domain but now realise I need new glasses as I read honeypot.org and that confused me even more  :o

:) Maximum Happiness here and thank you for the great software.

Just one question - I noticed that the email contained a reference to

Find And Run Robot / Re: Launch History
« on: August 23, 2016, 10:59 PM »
Mouser,
thanks but fiddling with these settings did not change the behaviour. It seems to me that some days I can log on in the morning and still have some history there and on other days I only get two or three specific listings, usually MS Office ( word or xls). Guess I have to make better use of alias and try to remember those alias I set up.

Find And Run Robot / Launch History

I am using Farr constantly and love the many features. The feature I use most is to access my standard files, those I have to access on a constant basis. Launch History is a great help in that respect as these destinations should appear there for easy access. However I don't understand how this list is populated as it seems to randomly forget standard files. Each morning when I first open Farr I am wondering how many files show up as it can vary between only 3 and 10.
I am using Farr on Win 7, 64 bit pro and the files are not just on my pc but also on networked drives.  This morning the result showed MS office, MS word and one letter linked to recent files on my c: drive - but none of my standard xls files I keep using every day. Those are on the networked drives.  Once I start using them, Farr learns and during the day they will appear but tomorrow most likely they will be lost again. I say most likely as some days they stick around.

I have set Farr to keep a launch history of 12.  I notice an option to disable Wow64 redirection currently ticked but don't understand the explanation. Would that explain the forgetfulness? Under Options / Launch History I have "do not add network drives" unticked. Are there any other options I should look at ?

Find And Run Robot / Re: Launch History not working as expected
« on: July 01, 2015, 12:09 AM »
update:  just checked the settings again and after removing the tick in network drives, the history is learning again.  Not sure how the tick got in there, if I may have accidentally done that while looking for a solution. However the issue happened before I started fiddling and FARR had worked fine before. At least at the moment it's working again but have not yet checked on behaviour after a restart or reboot.

Find And Run Robot / Launch History not working as expected
« on: June 29, 2015, 11:45 PM »
This morning I noticed that my launch history was almost empty - just showing excel and word program files but none of my frequent individual data files.  I checked under History Options and have "add launched files" set to 12  but even after doing new launches a few times, nothing gets added. I now installed the latest version but this did not make any difference. Is there any other setting that may have changed and that I don't know about.  I do use network drive paths and have this ticked. While this caused some issues in the past (getting unticked without any good reason), one of the recent updates solved that issue.

Thanks Mouser, that's fine - I thought it's me not using Farr correctly.

Find And Run Robot / Farr not remembering my preference
« on: September 07, 2014, 06:02 PM »
I figured out that I need to untick the option of "do not add network drive paths to lauch history (they can slow search) under Program Options/Settings/Search Behaviour. I do use networked drives and don't mind waiting a second longer to get the result I am after. This works well but several times now I noticed that the launch history is cut short and only 4 results show. Once I untick this box the results slowly built up again. I can't say for sure that after every reboot of my pc this setting gets lost but it does happen every few days.  Is this a bug? :o

hmmm, just did some more testing and now I have 5 files there, so 1 of the the new files "stuck". I also opened "pattern scoring" and notice that 2 files I regularly use are listed there with high scores. Would a record in here prevent them from showing up in the initial blank search?
This would indicate that giving a high score to a file or search means that once I start typing it will show up more quickly but before doing any typing it will not be considered as an option?

12
Mouser,
you are correct of course (and why wouldn't you as this is your baby ) - the 4 files/programs from the screenshot show up plus another four programs that I must have unticked a long time ago because I don't want them to clutter the view.
However, why are other searches that resulted in files being clicked/chosen not added to these 4?

13
tomos,

thanks for your help.  My settings under Display Options is more or less the same as yours (Farr1) - I think History Options is the issue (Farr2) . My aim is to have more than 4 files show when I bring Farr to the foreground (Farr 3).

14
Hitting the Pause/Break button brings up my Farr and it always shows 4 links. While these are frequently used files, I would like to see more (10-15). Also, these 4 files all have a score of 100. I have other files that I set to higher scores, why don't they show up? Once I enter something into the blank field, Farr does populate with more and shows also higher scores. Am I misunderstanding what should show up before you type? I played around with the settings under Launch/Search History but don't quite understand how to use History Options / Blank Searches and Ignore History Scores.

Thank you apankrat - was just wondering what I might be missing if I trial the beta first

16
Is there any difference between the last beta and the current release version with respect to current features or bugs?

just wondering if there is a recommended upgrade procedure, ie do I need to uninstall first and then do a clean install or can I go over the top?

Find And Run Robot / which files/progs show in a blank search?
« on: March 11, 2014, 06:17 PM »
I am using FaRR for several years and love it. Whenever I move to a new pc, it's one of the progs I can't do without. I realise I am not even using all of the features  8) .
I noticed that when I press Pause/Break to open the gui and enter my search term a number of listings already pop up. I wonder how they are chosen? They all have Scores of 100, other files have higher scores but to find them I need to enter something more.  Using alias I can get to what I am searching for quickly but not as quickly as if the top 10 actually appeared as first choice in a blank pop-up. I am not sure if I forgot about some setting as it seems to me in one of my previous installations, the top 10 worked differently.

I am a bit confused as to what "cloning" means as opposed to creating an image and what the advantage would be?

Screenshot Captor / Re: how to enter text into a text box
« on: November 01, 2013, 06:34 PM »
tomos,

thanks for that. I knew it had to be easy but somehow got confused between the highlighting rectangle and the text object. I don't see a cursor but no need if I know typing will just do what I need.   Works fine now - even for me  :D

Mouser, I just installed the latest version of the program and watched your video.  I know it will take quite some time for me to get to use many of the features but I am baffled that I can't get the easy one to work for me. In your video you rush a bit through the text box feature and even watching it several times I can't quite see how I can enter text. I can create the box, move it, shrink it but where do I type the text?  I am sure it's so obvious that I will be very embarrassed but that's one function I do need. I am not referring to the "label" text but the yellow background text box.

23
can only confirm - have been using stickies for several years and really like it. Once or twice I had an issue and raised on the forum and got a response very quickly - it's a gem.

24
yeah, not being that tech savvy I probably underestimated the difficulty.  I thought this was more a long the lines of some formula like if value in column K is identical in sheet A & sheet B based on time stamp in column B and  column I is some code 9 (varying by up to 2 minutes) then format cell  in red -- obviously some cut an and paste is still necessary to position the relevant fields in a better way. Or if necessary a lot of information can be cut out leaving only the bare minimum of data fields.  The original idea or hope of course was to use the original files and to minimise prior handling.

25
Guys, thanks for the links and advice - I will study this more closely tomorrow.  I am not sure though if these programs will help me as it seems they pick up on minor and exact differences between files. My files are substantially different even though they relate to the same records. Only two data points can be directly compared and as I mentioned, for the time factor to be considered matching, the time has a variance of 1-2 minutes.
