RunMe runs incredibly fast and smooth. You can even replace the crappy start menu with it if you don't want it docked...docked to almost any place you choose to move it.

Sprankle is a handy keyboard activated character map. Find the character you need with leaving the keyboard.

Win+S to activate. Shift + key shows uppercase menu. Choose a number to select and it's pasted.

Webopi is a cool concept that lets you rate/discuss any website independent of that sites admin. Comes in very handy for rating sites and sharing your experiences with them (www.codesector.com for example).

Hopefully there is a a lot more to come as features go. A user rating system would be good for credibility. Not having to enter your name in everytime. Better interface. Options. Auditory/popup alerts telling you of reviews or not. And I'm sure a thousand more ideas will come along if people adopt this.

Most of the work will be creating a solid database and servers for all this, which probably should take top priority over the front end at this stage.

General Software Discussion / Download Picasa Web Albums Without Picasa

Picasa is cool and has some neat features but it's bloated and the GUI design is terrible. I wanted to download an entire album (Bikini competition

) without having to install Picasa.

I found PicasaWeb Downloader.

After setting everything up I can now just copy the URL, press a hotkey and the album is downloading. No fuss, no muss, NO PICASA!!! Ok, the video doesn't show the hotkey, I was still playing around with it, but I soon changed the parameters to immediately download the URL with just the Keyword or a hotkey.

General Software Discussion / Remap Mouse Buttons

I just did a fresh nLite install and wanted to get rid of IntelliPoint. Anyway, I integrated the drivers for my MS mouse but didn't want to be dependent on the bloated software that let's me remap the keys.

Today I found X-Mouse Button Control, a nice little program that does just what I want without all that other crap that I won't ever use. Now when I click the right side button, my clipboard (ClipX) pops up just where I need it.

A Few of the options in those combo boxes:

Copy/Cut/Paste
Volume Up/Down/Mute
Media Player control
Send a custom keystroke sequence
Launch you email (or any) application.
Capture screen (or active window) image to clipboard.
Click-Drag [Sticky Buttons].
Vista support with some Vista only featurs such as 'Show Sidebar', 'Flip 3D' etc.

Post New Requests Here / Create New (Customized) Folder Wanted

There are many programs out there that will let you colour a folder or apply a custom icon/background to it AFTER the folder has been created.

I'm looking for something that can do this on the fly, both from a right click context menu and a hotkey (like mdAxelerator for example).

So you could have it set to use a certain icon, background image, and comment and every new folder you create could look something like this:

If would have to:
1.) put a desktop.ini file in the newly created folder along with the icon and background image in a hidden folder. (This is useful when browsing such a folder holding images with a viewer that can't be set to avoid hidden files.)
2.) be able to use any combination of background image, icon, or comment as the template.

If you could add other templates and be able to select from them, that would be even better!

Yes, the Classic and Modern skins are still there, but another addition has appeared in this beta.

It's more of a full windowed layout that I know some people on these forums prefer to Winamp's typical offerings. It currently has 12 colour themes.

I remember wanting to remap my Caps Lock key to something more useful awhile back and aside from digging into the registry I looked for a bit for a small tool to do the dirty work. Didn't come up with anything I really liked.

Found SharpKeys today through pure serendipity.

Eric's Movie Database is a free program that you can use to put all your movie titles into a database. I've been playing around with it for a few hours and I'm quite happy with it. It's definitely good enough for my needs.

It doesn't matter if they are DVD or some compressed container format, EMDB is suitable for just about anything related to movies. It's simple to use: Just click on Add, enter the title of the movie, hit enter or click the Search IMDB button, and it does the rest for you.

It has a nice HTML template setup, although the default template is rather crude and needs some kind of tags to allow you to use tables and tweak image height & width for covers (if these tags exist, I am not yet aware of them). It's export feature is also very nice, letting you decide exactly what information you want to put in the text file. The covers feature seems to add the cover sideways when you add it manually, but there's a fix for this by un-checking "Automatically rotate images when needed" in the options dialog. A feature to open the cover by clicking on the preview would be welcome also as the thumbnails are very small.

It seems to be portable too. Don't ask me if it's stealth or green or whatever, but I do know you can move the directory around and the program runs fine wherever it's placed. Overall though, I'm very impressed with this little program. Send the author a donation and he'll even put your name at the top! I'll let the screenshots tell you the rest.

If you have used Ubuntu or something similar, you probably know these cursors. Here they are for Windows.

Windows port complete. Of course this doesn't include anywhere close to all of the original cursors, but this is Windows limitation.

I was looking for a lightweight alternative to Nero that supports importing of sessions (other than Cheetah which is a bit TOO light). I found InfraRecorder. Here's some features as described on the site:

* Create custom data, audio and mixed-mode projects and record them to physical discs as well as disc images.
* Supports recording to dual-layer DVDs.
* Blank (erase) rewritable discs using four different methods.
* Record disc images (ISO and BIN/CUE).
* Fixate discs (write lead-out information to prevent further data from beeing added to the disc).
* Scan the SCSI/IDE bus for devices and collect information about their capabilities.
* Create disc copies, on the fly and using a temporary disc image.
* Import session data from multi-session discs and add more sessions to them.
* Display disc information.
* Save audio and data tracks to files (.wav, .wma, .ogg, .mp3 and .iso).

I haven't fully tested it out yet but it does look decent.
I should mention that it requires no install, just extract and it's ready to go.

Downloaded this from Filehippo today. It tried to add a runonce to my registry concerning this file: NSIS.Library.RegTool.v2.{C480568F-0B79-433A-8399-52D704BACE84}.exe.

Searching shows that this is verified 100% adware. The company that produces this garbage is here: nsismedia.net

One detailed report here.

It was confusing at first as NSIS to me always means Nullsoft Install System, but my spidey sense told me something else entirely.

I could use a utility that would let me send a shortcut to anywhere I choose. Being able to add directories to send shortcuts to and choose them from a context menu would be too good to be true but immensely useful. If there's such a thing out there, I certainly can't find it.

Anyone here have any ideas?

Somewhere out there in the binary universe, is a freeware utility that lets you put a text file in a folder. When you mouse over that folder, you get an infotip of whatever is written in that text file. I can't remember where it is or what it is called!

I'm 99% sure someone here will know. Help me solve this conundrum.

I found these 2 reviews over at Reflexive. Both are from the same person, cirruspaxton. I guess they appeal to my particular sense of humour. Anyone have anything else like this?

1.) Review of Jewel Match:

Finally, something new!

With all these "been there, done that" games coming out recently, like Gumboy Crazy Adventures, Gish, Zombie Smashers X2, Mexican Motor Mafia, and the like... it's nice to FINALLY see something brand new hit the Reflexive scene.

Matching jewels to clear the screen? How refeshing and new! I can't wait to put this on my Christmas list. It's a long way off, but from the looks of this game so far, it'll be worth the wait.

I'll be buying this ASAP. Developers, listen up: what we need are more games like this! Lining up some jewels, maybe smashing them, and so forth. It's the stuff of legends, and it's never been done before. Get to it!

Edit: Please understand that everything I wrote above was pure sarcasm. Right down to the "been there, done that" games I mentioned. (hahah, as if it wasn't obvious, but the writer came back and added this edit. Hilarious!)

2.) Review of Pirates of the Atlantic:

Sometimes I wonder...

I've seen better games on free flash sites. Really. Do yourself a favor and avoid this game entirely. I've seen games next to the comics in the newspaper with more content and depth. You basically shoot cannonballs at oncoming ships, and buy "upgrades." Oh, don't forget the awesome rank system, which just gives you a rank-up every time you beat a wave of ships and airships. Somehow, it sounds more interesting when I'm writing it than when actually playing it. How in the world can they even think of charging 20 dollars for this? Actually, download this and give it a shot. Spend your trial getting everything that there is out of the game, be ashamed, and then post a review begging people not to buy this game for their children. Getting this as a gift would ruin Christmas. (This brought tears to my eyes!

)
