i use InfoRapid search alot:

InfoRapid Search & Replace is one of the most powerful search and replace utilities you can find. With it s built-in HTML filter, it s excellent for searching and previewing HTML documents (also in the cache of your internet browser)and supports many advanced search /replace techniques including regular expressions and phonetic searches. One of the nicest features is the fact that you can preview the search results with highlighted keywords as they were found, using a built-in mini browser.

For instance, if I search for Luperini, it will bring back, Luporini, Luperin, Loperoni, and so on, it guesses and brings back everything close, or even customize the search more.

cant you search L*p*r*

great find, thanks.

Windows XP vs. Vista: The Benchmark Rundown

Conclusion: K.O. For Windows Vista?

Windows Vista clearly is not a great new performer when it comes to executing single applications at maximum speed. Although we only looked at the 32-bit version of Windows Vista Enterprise, we do not expect the 64-bit edition to be faster (at least not with 32-bit applications).

Overall, applications performed as expected, or executed slightly slower than under Windows XP. The synthetic benchmarks such as

General Software Discussion / anyone tried i.Scribe email client?
« on: November 04, 2006, 06:52 PM »

The Small and Fast Email Client
Scribe is a small and fast email client with an intergrated contact database and calendar. It supports all the major internet mail protocols and uses international standards where possible. Scribe doesn't required installing or uninstalled and can be used from a removable drive without reconfiguration. It comes with a bayesian spam filter and translations to many different languages. Updates are published regularly to respond to problems and to add features. Because Scribe runs on Windows and Linux you can take your mail with you when you change operating system. And don't worry about viruses, Scribe protects you from the usual security holes in other email clients with it's own virus safe HTML control and executable attachment protection.

what i like about it is its portable (no installation) and it comes with a built in bayesian spam filter.

Can I simply delete the svchost.exe executable in Safe Mode and have Windows decompress a fresh copy from a *.cab file?

no i dont think you can manually replace svchost.

My colleague was suggesting running a Win XP repair from the slipstreamed WinXP CD.

thats a good idea.

1. try Restore Defaults
right click on your drive>properties>autoplay

2. XP Powertoys.

go to type and handlers, try toggle it on and off, may be it can self-corrected after playing with it.
