General Software Discussion / Re: Windows 7 evaluation
« on: June 19, 2009, 09:22 PM »
One way cool thing about Windows 7 (or at least the RC) is that you can remove Windows components that you don't like, including Internet Explorer
That is SOO cool, thanks for showing that!

I read many scattered topics on the Tips & Tricks of W7, but this is a new one I haven't read.

Am getting tons of Run-Time errors.
My thrill was too short-lived.

Any alternatives anyone?!

Living Room / Re: What's your favorite drink?
« on: June 08, 2009, 12:06 AM »
Plain old run of the mill Iced Tea ...

... A dark beer called "Blast Furnace" from The Church Brew Works in Pittsburgh PA.  I drive 2 and a half hours to get 2 growlers filled with it.  The smell, the individual tastes in it, the head on it...pure heaven.
mmm ... Ice Tea.
Heavy ice, not those LARGE ice cubes, but the small ones that melt in 5 seconds in your mouth.

Growlers ... reminds me ... *excuse me as i reminisce* At my favorite watering hole (El Paso TX Jaxon's Restaurant & Brewery), they serve some a-MAZ-ing beers. Chihuahua Brown Ale was my #1 favorite. Our collection of 5 growlers at 2 liters each supplied me and my pals enough for a fun Friday night for only $10 each :)

What's my favorite drink?
No sodas.
To wake up - fresh roasted, fresh ground coffee (i found that if i preheat my water to super-hot temps by filtering through my coffee machine and THEN a second time through the coffee grounds - it's WAY better! ;) ).
Throughout the day, high high quality H2O.
To beat the summertime heat or at restaurant - Ice Tea.
To unwind after a long day - any one of a fine selection of imported beers: Chimay Ale, Dogfish Head IPAs, db double black stout, Old Growler (Great Britain), Maredsous Belgian Abbey Ale (10,8 & 6 %alc.), Arrogant Bastard Ale, Stone IPA,  Paulaner ... mmmm ... or my classical Heineken (dark preferred).

(after reading my list, I seem like an ancoholic, but an just a connoisseur)

 :D

I found something ladies, gentlemen and coders!

It's got TONS of amazing features. A great one is:
Server Sychronization
To avoid having to carry a copy of the database from one PC to another gbCodeLib provides a built-in ability to FTP the current database files (source code, repository file, and object file) to a users' web site.

The app also has a portable version too INCLUDED!!! :)
gbFlashLib
For users who want to a carry their snippet database with them, usually in a USB Flash drive, a simpler version of gbCodeLib has been written. The portable version is called gbFlashLib. To use it, just copy two files - gbFlashLib.exe and gbCodeLib.txt - to any folder on your USB flash drive. Double-click on the EXE file in the flash drive to run the program. The gbFlashLib EXE file is included in the gbCodeLib distribution.

Best of all, gbCodeLib is free for non-commercial use (personal & educational).
Charge $30 for commercial or governmental environments.

gbCodeLib

gbCodeLib is a full-featured, multi-language
code librarian, powerful source code editor
and revision control manager. gbCodeLib has
an easy-to-use interface yet provides one of
the largest feature sets of any code librarian
available today. Over 1000 sample source code
snippets, including language mini-tutorials,
are included in the distribution.

gbCodeLib and its snippets can be updated online.

VB, VBA, VB.net, HTML, XML, Perl, ASP, PHP,
JavaScript, Java, Delphi, C++, C#, SQL and DOS
source code snippets are included in the distribution.

For more information, go to
the gbCodeLib home page at:

http://www.garybeene...gbware/gbcodelib.htm

EFF-ing awesome!
So glad I found this!
:P

Anything new?
I'd like to resurrect this thread.

I have some snippets and code that I would like to maintain in an app like the one mentioned above. But I, like many of you, prefer Open Source or free.

I attempted to use Adobe AIR app called Snipply http://code.google.com/p/snippely/
didnt like it :(

57
you could try StartupDelay

I've never used it so i can't vouch for it, but it may do what you need
haha, funny enough, I actually saw that on a friends computer, but never got around to asking what it did.

THANKS for the great recommend!

58
*woot*woot*
Thanks Gang!

Searched for terms 'timer, timed, auto, autorun, autostart' but I can not find.
:(

I've too many things autostart, and would like to delay some of them.
ex: antivirus start first, seconds later start firewall, a minute later startqwerty.exe

hhmm ... someone know of such a neat app?

60
WOW!
I'm surprised my #1 CMS wasn't mentioned?!

ExpressionEngine http://expressionengine.com/ does EVERYthing you ask for and more.
Extremely expandable http://expressioneng...om/downloads/addons/
Highly rated community http://expressionengine.com/forums/

The Core version is free (with limitations), while the Personal is $99 and the Commercial is $249.
I've used it for over 3 years, and am using the Commercial version for the first time for a client of mine.

There are TONS of incredible tutorials, How-To's, etc.

Living Room / Re: Where did your DC user I.D come from?

**AWESOME**THREAD**
 :D

My first name is Jaime. When I worked at WAL-MART, such a long time ago, there were 2 others Jaimes that worked there. Much confusion.
I was James for a while. New guy James works with us. Confusion follows.
My name badge was washed with laundry once, ES fell from JAM, so I became JAM - i LOVED that name!
One of my regular customers would take his little girl to buy stickers when she did good in school. One day she stuck a blue dot sticker on my badge, the same color ANNND size as JAM.
So, Jaime > James > JAM > JAM-O > JAMMO > JAMJAMMO

This is perhaps the LAST site I use my old screen-name for. I now use 'OrganizedFellow' for all social sites, email, domains, logins, etc.
I'm an adult living happily with the gift that is ADD/ADHD. Seeing and using the name OrganizedFellow helps me stay focused and shtuff :)

I have the HTC Juno (aka T-Mobile Shadow) Smartphone.

I know you are talking about a PDA device, but, just like my phone, there are specialist sites for just about everything.

I know that as a general rule of Windows usage, I should not use the Administrator account for daily usage.
So I use my personal account, as well as my wife uses her own.

It would be a neat idea, say for example the following scenario:
I'm logged into my personal account. I need to download/install some application, or perform some task which is disabled in my stripped user account.
This little app would need to be installed on all accounts I suppose!?
So I launch this neat little application that posts something like a postit/stickey note to the Administrator Desktop: DON'T FORGET TO INSTALL 'XYZ'.
The next time I logon using the Admin Account, I am presented with the postit/stickey note which was posted with the other account.
It would be even better, if this same little application could send messages to other accounts. For example, to my wifes desktop/account: HUNNY, I TOOK YOUR CAR KEYS TO WASH YOUR CAR. I LEFT THE COFFEE POT ON!

:)

I know there are plenty of postit/stickey notes around, but I don't know about the above feature.

... You want me actually figure this out for myself?!  :-\ ... I need a solution from someone experienced who would deliver it to my doorstep!  That is why I am here.
You may have misunderstood the purpose of this forum and our users.

You don't just come here and request/demand rudely that someone 'deliver to your doorstep' anything!
Many members here have already pointed you to several solutions, and they all seem like viable options.

Please understand that they are trying their best to help you. Please be a little kinder to our members!

You can either:
1. Follow the few solutions mentioned above, and IF they do not work for you, please explain why! That would give us a better idea on how to assist you further.
2. If none of the above suit you, you can always pay for a custom solution.

:P not all things are free

@wraith808
What model SmartPhone do you own?
I'd really like to upgrade to WMv6.1, but it hasn't been ported to the Shadow yet. I read that a few people have bricked their phones over at xda-developers.
